Songs For Audition??

Question Posted Wednesday December 7 2005, 10:01 pm

Our highschool is having auditions for "The Music Man" Tomorrow night around 6. I need a song to sing...I really can't think of and good/semi It can me with or without music. My voice talents are limited, but they are there, so any suggestions would be marvelous!

Thank you so much!
Sarah

Do you know what part (soprano, alto, tenor...) you sing?

Regardless, slower songs from awhile back or Broadway are generally good. Don't go out singing The Black Eyed Peas. I would recommend a solo from your musical that you could sing. That's your best bet.

I wish you all the best on your audition!

Okay, what you audition with has a LOT to do with which part you're aiming for. I auditioned for that play and I was aiming for Marian, so I auditioned with something musical-theater-y. (I actually picked an excerpt from Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance (one of Mabel's songs) to show off my high range, 'cause that part deals with quite a bit of the voice.
If you know musicals, go with something from there. "Think of me" or "Wishing you were somehow here again" from Phantom of the Opera are both good.
Go with something you know and you like that shows off the part of your voice you want to show off.
This is very short notice - a lot of the advice you get here may not help you.
The best advice I can give you is to sing something you know that you think shows off your voice well, preferably musical theater style, as Music Man is indeed a musical - they're not gonna be looking for a whole lot of opera, nor are they gonna want "rock" or "pop" style singing (I don't think.)
I hope this helps - good luck with your audition! If you're willing, let me know if you get in/what part you end up with. I'm curious!

Omg i went and saw that play! Lol i think.. =D..I'm pretty sure though. It was kind of funny. I liked it. It was cute x333

You can do like..Brittney Spears' songs(lol..) Or Michelle Branch-All I wanted. Or..Anna Nalick- Just Breathe. When you try to sing the song you pick, you shouldn't FORCE yourself to sing the higher notes that they could sing. Sing at your level..Ya know? Because if you force it, your voice might crack and you might be singing from your nose. And singing from your nose makes it sound like..fake. Lol. SO yea. =)

PS- If you decide to do like, Michelle Branch or Brittney Spears, and they tease you for picking that song, TELL THEM TO STICK IT UP THEIR ASS JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T SING AS GOOD AS YOU!! =). K. So do your best because you will do good. =)
