Question Posted Thursday November 24 2005, 10:28 am
Hi
I'm 15 years old and i've had my period for a little bit over a year now. I have always used pads, but i'd really like to start using tampons. But there's only one problem, im so scared of them. I've tried using the before, but im just scared to leave something up there...please help me. Are there small tiny tampons for teens to use? im sooo freaked out.
maria2653 answered Saturday November 26 2005, 10:39 pm: use slender ones at first, just to get used to them. then when you get the hang of it you can either continue using slender tampons or switch to normal sized. good luck [ maria2653's advice column | Ask maria2653 A Question ]

tampons are better used when you are NOT a virgin. they are easier to use in your vagina because it isn't, how should i say..closed up anymore..the skin has been broken so it is much easier..so i'd stay away from tampons until you lose ur virginity..
however..if you are not a virgin..i'd stay to the tiny tampons made by tampax..those were made for teens or people with small vaginas..
JuiiCy-x-3 answered Friday November 25 2005, 3:08 pm: mmm, well there are alot of people that don't like tamps because they hurt. But if your just too scared then you'll live you don't always have to wear them - unless your athletic.. Like swimming, basketball, volleyball... Then you should consider facing your [fear] and just using one.
^ but make sure that your bleeding heavy. If your bleeding light DON'T use it.. because you can get something called: toxic shock.. and all there is to say is it hurts like shit.
or if you really wanna use a tampon my mom just cuts the tamp in half so when you pull it out it doesn't hurt as much as when your pulling out a huge, long tamp from up your vigina..

I totally know what your saying! Uggh! I never wanted to leave anything up there either. I always thought that they could get lost or something. Then, I found out that nothing can get lost in your vagina. There is only one way out! That helped alot. Also, I found out that it doesn't hurt and if it does, you don't have it positioned right and you should move it around until it feels okay. There are special tampons for teens to use. Just go into a pharmacy and ask a female pharmacist, she'll direct you in the right area. Don't be scared! Nothing can happen by leaving tampons up there (especially if you change them every few hours)
GDROB2 answered Friday November 25 2005, 1:39 am: Take a deep breath because I'm not so sure I catch you if you fall on me ;) I think the easiest way to put this is once you master using tampons you will know it for life and not be scared of it.
I think I should suggest common myths here. First of all, whoever told you or legions of girls that you can lose one inside your vagina should be shot! It cannot happen. The Vagina is not an endless organ. There is only one way in with a tampon or anything else and one way out. Nothing gets lost. It can at times take an extra tug on the string I'm told to get one out but that's it.
I think what scares you is the actual insertion part and or the idea of pain. Sure, it will feel uncomfortable at first and maybe a wee bit of of an ouch is the hymen has not been stretched before from masturbation etc.
There are indeed tampons designed for teens. Your best bet is to go to a pharmacy pick out a woman pharmacist, tell them in a whsiper what you need and let them help you and or take a friend or an older sister/cousin etc and go in.
I also know that a tip most given out is to use KY Jelly or Vaseline on the applicator and it does take several tries to get. You will not be helping yourself if tense at all. You have to relax or muscles will contract making it difficult. The way they say is best is one foot on ground, one on toilet for insertion and follow the directions.
You can ask for help with any of this on their boards and by reading articles etc. It's the best site on the Internet for teens about sexuality and embarassing questions on it. [ GDROB2's advice column | Ask GDROB2 A Question ]
*BraNdi* answered Friday November 25 2005, 1:14 am: yeah theres different sizes.
dont worry about how it feels..it wont hurt if you put it in right, and if its uncomfortable you probably put it in wrong, otherwise you wont notice its there..you'll get use to it after the first or second time you wear one! [ *BraNdi*'s advice column | Ask *BraNdi* A Question ]
badhabit_xx answered Thursday November 24 2005, 10:24 pm: I understand what you're saying, when I first used tampons I was afraid and it took me a little while to get used to the idea of them. The brand that I started out with (I was 14) were Playtex Gentle Glide Slimfits Tampons. The applicator is designed to go in smoothly without discomfort and they are smaller and ideal for teens who's vaginas are smaller than most adult females.
As for your fear of TSS, as long as you change your tampon every 4-6 hours, you shouldn't worry about getting TSS. And don't be afraid of the tampon getting stuck inside your vagina. The string is woven throughout the entire tampon and it cannot come out.
CAPTAINKJ618 answered Thursday November 24 2005, 7:16 pm: they make teen size i think playtex or kotex they say junior on the front dont be scared they are so much better than pads and easier to handle....goood luck!!! [ CAPTAINKJ618's advice column | Ask CAPTAINKJ618 A Question ]
cheddar answered Thursday November 24 2005, 5:44 pm: they have slim tampons for teens, but tampons really aren't that scary. you have to leave it in there for like 13 hours to get TSS, so if you just wear it and change it, it's safe. be sure to read the information that comes in the box of tampons, so you know what to do. devilspawn_666 answered Thursday November 24 2005, 4:41 pm: There are indeed "slim" tampons out there. You just have to read the packages to make sure that you're getting the right ones. There's nothing wrong with using tampons as long as you make sure to change them every four hours or so, especailly if your period is heavy. Also, don't use tampons at night. Use a pad during the night... [ devilspawn_666's advice column | Ask devilspawn_666 A Question ]
