braces
okay. i really need my braces off. like i got them in 6th grade. and im now a freshman! i dont wear my elastics, and if i wear them they'll come off. and to those that have already had elastics and braces, approx. how long will it take for my teeth to not have an over bite anymore? i really need my braces off!!!!

I also have them, and I just got them in March, and my orthodontist said that I'm getting them off early, aka probably this summer. And if you have your elastics already, pretty soon if you just keep wearing the elastics. I'm pretty darn sure that after 3 years they will be off.

It really depends on how your teeth looked before and how they look now. Your dentist is only going to take your braces off when he/she is happy with how your teeth look, now and how much they have changed. I used to have braces and they were on for 2+ years. Some people need more work done to their teeth then others, that's why the braces stay on for a longer period of time.
I know they're annoying - been there, done that. But I guess you just have to put up with them. Keep wearing your elastics. The more you wear them, the straighter your teeth will get and the sooner you'll be able to get your braces off. Just give it some time, don't worry, they'll come off soon. Remember, in the end you'll have a beautiful smile! ♥

I have braces. I got them at the end of 7th grade, and now I'm a freshman. I'm sure your dentist/orthadontist tells you that you need to wear your elastics to get your braces off. Ask your orthodontist how much longer he/she thinks you are going to have your braces. And if whenever you wear the elastics, they fall off, make sure to tell him/her that so they can help you with that.

i had the same problem. i got my braces in 6th grade and was supposed to get them off at the beggining of 8th. but i didnt wear my rubberbands. but then i got really mad and wanted my braces off so i sucked it up and wore them. i know it can be embarassing to be wearing them during school, but nobody notices at all. tons of people have them, and just think.. the more you wear them, the sooner you'll have a gorgeous smile. but seriously...i started wearing my rubberbands 24/7 and got my braces off within 3 months after. of course it was the summer before my sophomore year because i procrastinated wearing them. so take my advice. WEAR YOUR RUBBERBANDS. and you'll get your braces off sooner and be gorgeous :-)

I have braces & for the longest time I didnt wear my bands.
But, I learned you need to so I can get them off!
I double them up at night or twist them when I wear them, so it does the job twice as much!
A lot of people who had braces did that, so I took there advice, so I should be getting mine off pretty soon.

I still have them in!
I have that same stupid overbite, without elastics.
YOu don't really need your braces off, I know they suck but you can live with them.
It may take me another six months or so,
so you may still have yours for a while yet.

You NEED to wear the elastics. Even if they come off, put them back on. If its a real problem, ask your orthodontist what else you can do. Until then, just wear them. Your orthodontist may decide that nightgear is right for you. (Thats what I had, its like...headgear, but you only wear it at night so it doesn't suck TOO terribly bad)

I've had my braces for six years. 5th-11th. I'm about to get mine off...I learned that I just have to be better about wearing my bands even though they do fall out. I know it sucks but really...take my advice.

wearing elastics is the most important thing when you have braces!! If you dont, youll be in braces twice as long. Alot of orthodontists will discontinue treatment if the patient isnt cooperative. So the more you wear your elastics the sooner you will get them off!!!

I had my braces for one year. I will tell you this right now...if you don't wear your elastics, it won't fix your over bite, and they WON'T take your braces off. So my advice is to wear your elastics, and make them stay on. The longer you wait to wear them, the longer you will have braces. =] hope i helped

I only had my braces for a year. I'd say stick with them because they'll probably be off pretty soon. You should ask your orthodontist about it though because every orthodontist is different and everyone has different teeth. Good luck!
