Cats, dogs, rabbits and any reptiles are just not going to work...should I just get another hamster but that seems like I am just replacing it. Got any suggestions?I love ferrets but I don't have the money for them.

honu22 answered Sunday February 12 2006, 12:57 am: You should feel free to give any sort of pet a home. If you want another hamster, I think it's fine. I NEVER think of it as "replacing" an animal that has passed away- I think of it as giving another animal a home. Hope this helps. [ honu22's advice column | Ask honu22 A Question ]
pugluver answered Wednesday December 21 2005, 7:31 pm: i also dont like the idea of replacing an animal so the best advice i can give you is go with your heart if you think getting a hamster will make the sadness go away then get a hamster go with your heart sorry [ pugluver's advice column | Ask pugluver A Question ]
goodapollo4 answered Sunday December 11 2005, 5:01 pm: get a chinchilla
they look like a mix of a rabbit, a squirrel, and a guinea pig and theyre really soft and cute
but theyre over a 100 bucks, and it might need a bigger cage than ur hampster
but its just a suggestion neway [ goodapollo4's advice column | Ask goodapollo4 A Question ]
beautychic1163 answered Sunday December 11 2005, 2:03 pm: You can get a another hamster it does not mean that you are replacing it. Because if you loved your last hamster alot, then you can never replcaed it with another animal. So go ahead and get another hamster.
Hope you make your descision real soon

i wouldn't get another hamster. it might upset you everytime you look at it. dogs are very friendly and they are the best. get a fish nonetheless. or a guinea pig. if you arent scared of spiders- try getting a tarantula. i had 2
orphans answered Wednesday November 23 2005, 2:05 pm: I think it's up to you if you want to get another hamster-pet-. I know what it feels like, my gerbil that ive had for like almost 4 yrs just died. im thinking about getting a new one, but i wouldn't replace her with it! Do you have any pictures of your hamster? If no, then you must have some awesome memories! If you got another hamster, you wouldn't be replacing your old one, unless you TOTALLY, ABSOLUTELY, forgot about your old one. PETS

Kizlode answered Monday November 21 2005, 12:49 pm: If you don't want to get a hamster but want something similar try a Degu (there are a few sites on-line about them but a lot are in German for some reason), some pet shops recomend them if people ask for rats because they don't like stocking rats and Degu's are a bit more friendly.

Chicken_flavored_eggs answered Saturday November 19 2005, 3:54 pm: If you do not want to get another Hamster (which I think you should, I have a soft spot for Hamsters) try a bird. When I was younger, I could not have a dog, or a cat, or a reptile. My parents were allergic. Well, actually, I am too. Cats and rabbits make me break out in itchy white bumps. Anyway, I had a bird. It was a cockatiel and her name was Sunny. She was a great pet. Birds can be kind of messy, ok, they are really messy. But they can be worth it. If all else fails, just get fish. imhere4advise777 answered Wednesday November 16 2005, 8:29 pm: i am so sorry to hear about your hampster. if you got a new hampster it wouldn't be replacing the other one. it's respecting it. look at it as if the old hampster was so great that you wanted a new one that it was great. if you really wanted a ferret just keep on saving and don't buy too many other things. I hope i helped! ~*~*Lynne*~*~ [ imhere4advise777's advice column | Ask imhere4advise777 A Question ]

It's OK to get another one. You're not just replacing the other one - it's natural to want something in it's place, but just because you want a new hamster doesn't mean you'll forget your old one.
However, if you are dead-set against getting another one, I'd suggest fish, mice, rats, guinea pigs or birds. [ BeautifulMadness's advice column | Ask BeautifulMadness A Question ]
fish34 answered Tuesday November 15 2005, 11:26 pm: What about a rat? They make really great pets (I had 14 at one time) you can teach them tricks, come to their name, etc.! They are really nice too, just a little stinky, but that's not a problem if you clean out their cage every other day or so. If you don't have time to play with it a lot, then get two and they keep each other company! [ fish34's advice column | Ask fish34 A Question ]
