I've heard that when you're trying to lose weight that it's important to eat several small, healthy meals a day instead of only one or two large meals. What's a decent number of small meals a day to start with? Do you increase or decrease as time goes on?
Yes it is true that your body can handle several small meals instead of 3 big ones during the day. The ideal amount of meals is around 5 or 6 throughout the day, no need to increase or decrease this total, but it can take some getting used to, so find good foods which you love and eat regularly. This will prevent hunger (By the way hunger in itself means that your body is starting to eat away at itself for energy since you do not have enough food energy.) snickerzz11 answered Monday November 7 2005, 5:38 pm: probably around 4-6 mini meals a day. make sure that they are healthy or that makes it not as good for you. also, it probably would be a good idea to do some exercises, because those are good too. o, and you could probably just keep it the same, instead of increasing or decreasing your intake of minimeals. hope i helped! ♥ [ snickerzz11's advice column | Ask snickerzz11 A Question ]

helpingbuddy01 answered Monday November 7 2005, 4:54 pm: well dieting all depends on your age, and your weight at this point. small meals may not help. so heres a suggestion, eat a BIG breakfast, and a smaller lunch and dinner. if your bigger meal is at dinner, the food just sits there and you dont digest it the fast.
always,

Mackenzie answered Monday November 7 2005, 3:03 pm: Yes, it's best to eat several small portions a day; but this does not mean to "starve" yourself. Say, have an apple and a piece of cheese, two hours later have a few crakers, and an hour later have one piece of wheat toast, and so on and so forth, ya know??? And those are just some snack ideas. When it comes to solid meals, you don't really have to cut out much. Just take in moderation. Little intakes of food like that gives your body time to digest it properly. You see how that's better than eating one or two huge meals a day?? Because then it would take too long to catch up, and your bodyy will not be able to burn the calories quickly enough; so it just quits, adding body fat.
Providing you cut out the EXTREMELY unhealthy foods, such as white bread [substitute it with wheat], cake products, ice cream, hamburgers, and soda... [if you're used to consuming A LOT of it] you can see a significant amount of weight loss after the first two weeks, alone.
Of course you must realize that weight loss takes time. I can't really say how long it will take; I suppose that differs from person to person. It really just depends on how much weight you're looking to shed. I'd say you could lose 10 to 20 pounds within the first month; that's very possible (seeing as how a good portion of that 10-20 pounds will be water weight).
You just have to stay committed, and strive to keep up the drive. Some tips: just try to keep yourself busy, and sleep as often as possible. Those things keep your mind off of food.
Sure it seems like you're giving up so much, but think about what you will be gaining if you feel better about yourself?? That's the best damned grand prize you'll EVER find. (: [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]

xRoOxiSxBlOnDex answered Monday November 7 2005, 10:12 am: Normally you have about 5 small meals a day. A small breakfast, a brunch, a small lunch, an afternoon snack, and then a small dinner. Also, no caffiene after 6, and don't eat after 7. Good luck!
