MELiixMARiiE answered Sunday October 30 2005, 7:21 pm: well for facts just state that you feel the drinking age should be lowered because then that'd make an increase in death rates. People are already talking about the death rate of drunk drivers is so high now, and by lowering it, they'll be increasing the death rate. Also they could die of alcohol overdose and such. and by lowering it, you're going to give kids and earlier liking to it, and who knows how they'll handle it. They might become alcoholics or something or since they're so young, they're behavior may be violent. for some more facts, just try googling it. ( im sorry I would for you, but I don't have the time I'm trying to hurry this ).
for the nervous thing, it's alright to be nervous. I mean, everyone is. I always think of that whenever I'm giving the report. I'm just like," they aren't going to laugh. They know how i'm feeling they know i'm nervous, cause they were too" and it makes me feel a little better. Just before you go up just take some calm breaths and like i said, everyones nervous and embarassed.
I hope I helped!
BeautifulMadness answered Sunday October 30 2005, 2:55 pm: In order to not get embarrassed, try and pretend you really are just having a debate with your boyfriend!! Try and forget that anyone else is there.
Look up some statistics for under-age drinking (e.g. how many people die from it, or are involved in crashes because of it, get pregnant underage due to being drunk under age - in other words say what it leads to as WELL as just the usual affects of drinking). They are pretty awful. Look up as many case studies as you can (i.e. real examples and real stories of under age drinkers and bad things that have happened to them) of both under age drinkers and legal ones (i.e. George Best, he is an alcoholic and dying right now horribly, he ruined his career with drink, look him up, look at the horrible effects of excessive drinking) and try to really become passionate about the case. Make yourself really believe it - it's so much easier to argue it then. Could you really argue it if your heart wasn't fully in it? Slip some of these real-life stories of drinking into your debate, they might be quite moving or shocking which should get the listeners and maybe your bf on your side.
Say where it will lead. e.g. if we lower the age to 14, how much lower will it get? Will we soon be seeing seven year olds in pubs? (Use lots of rhetorical, emotive questions such as would you want YOUR *blah* year old daughter drinking and therefore at a greater risk of getting pregnant or being involved in a car crash?).
Good luck!! [ BeautifulMadness's advice column | Ask BeautifulMadness A Question ]
caden answered Sunday October 30 2005, 2:32 pm: Here are some facts:
1. People under 18 are effected the most and is more easily addicted to cigs.
2 It makes your skin look ugly.
3. It is bad for your health and it is a suppresent, wich means it makes people deppressed and teens have a lot of stress so smoking makes double the stress.
4 it makes breathing harder and if you can hardly breathe anymore because you smoke frequently. youll have to have a hole cut in your throat to breathe and that looks pretty nasty and is not fasionable.
5. it can get you suspended from school.
Hopefully they helped. I didnt really read over them, i just googled "drink age."
Dont be embarrased if you lose. Be confident. Like pretend you're going to win money. Say 1000000 dollars if you win. That should keep you concentrated! :)

I have included a couple of web sites I think will be helpful to you. The first one is against lowering. The second gives you both sides of the issue. This way you can see what possible arguments your boyfriend might come up with.
XSugarPieX77 answered Sunday October 30 2005, 11:07 am: Dont be embarressed, there will probably be kids that didnt even do there project, they should be embarressed. Just go on the net and find out a whole bunch of information. Write the most important facts on flashcards and bring them with you for the debate. You wont feel stupid if you have all the information you need right in your hands. Hopefully, the people in your class wont make you feel bad. Hope I helped!Good luck.
kevin1986 answered Thursday October 27 2005, 11:21 pm: You picked a bad position. But you need to bring up the fact that a lot of DWI's are done by 18-20 year olds who drank illegally. Drunk driving deaths. Younger people have less experience to begin with, so an inexperienced drunk is a real recipe for disaster. But I'm for lowering the drinking age. Cj answered Thursday October 27 2005, 10:27 pm: 1. Alcohol is bad for the developing brain it kills out the neurons that are being developed especailly when you are under 18
2. we Teens are hype so lowering the drinking age will provide us easier access to alcohol and will in turn lead to more alcohol poisoning and more teenagers causing harm while DUI.
4. If minors start drinking at a younger age, they will get hoohed. addiction will settle in because they do not have enough mental discipline to not get hooked.
5. People do stupid things when they're drunk and someone who is young may not understand the consequences of what they're doing while under the influence.Teenagers also rule more with emotion rather than rationality and therefore many of them can't control the amount of alcohol they drink.
6. Giving teenagers access to alcohol will skyrocket the number of teens drinking.
7. teenege pregnancy will go up due to girls being seducted under tyhe influence.
8. rape numbers will go up as the new excitement will cause many teens to overdose and lose thier sense of reality and just want to do it with random strangers.
9. under the influence people might actually start watching oprah!
(AAaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!)
10. people willl not understand thier physics class and will start having nightgmares of a giant X chasing them.
11. many will feel the serenity recieved after a few drinks and will return to it as an escape and will throw thier lives down the drain as they cannot operate (at all) when they are drunk.
12 talk about diseases occuring more due to underage exposure, cirrosis of liver and stuff.
13. this is the best. studies show that alcohol actually causes men to form breast.(due to fat and calories in the beer) and will cause the male reproductive organ not to function properly.(it is unable to erect and turn fully stiff).
14, people will become like bam margera and steve-o and they are just plain crazy. [ Cj's advice column | Ask Cj A Question ]
Imperialistic answered Thursday October 27 2005, 12:03 am: Ahh this is a hard topic because I am totally for it but...
1. Studies show that alcohol is bad for the growing body.
2. Alcohol is bad for the developing brain (and studies show that the brain doesn't stop developing until you are 25)
3. Teenagers are usually reckless and lowering the drinking age will provide more access to alcohol and will in turn lead to more alcohol poisoning and more teenagers causing harm while DUI.
4. If minors start drinking at a younger age, their chances of becoming dependent on it (being an alcoholic) will increase.
5. People do stupid things when they're drunk and someone who is young may not understand the consequences of what they're doing while under the influence.
6. At the same time, studies link alcohol to depression and right now teens are already in danger of being depressed without alcohol.
7. Teenagers also rule more with emotion rather than rationality and therefore many of them can't control the amount of alcohol they drink.
8. Giving teenagers access to alcohol will skyrocket the number of teens drinking.
