hitler_the_goat answered Tuesday October 25 2005, 11:19 pm: this is how you make lye soap:
burn some wood in a fireplace or other such area
scoop up some of the ashes, this is your lye
soak this stuff in water, don't get any on your skin!!
find some fat, lard will work, but will produce a soft and goopy soap.
mix the lye two parts to the lard (or other fat)one part over an electric stove or a grill. do not even think of spilling this highly flammable stuff. keep it at a low(below 150) temperature, as the lye will boil and explode(that really sucked). keep a bag of salt handy to put out any possible grease fires if you're using a grill.
then stir until it gets really thick and nasty. take the container of molten soap and let it cool and sweat off the water. it will eventually harden and you can cut it with a wire knife into bars. it will be without fragrance, but it will make you cleaner and not as stinky.
