Hopefully it's a forgone conclusion KF is so far off I'm wondering if that wasn't sarcastic either way not a well thought call for an advice site...

Anyway. TBS is where I first heard this as well and most people got it right

Boys like you are a dime a dozen

You're Last Summer is basically an awesomely perfect summation for many people, thus why an "Emo" song permeated the mainstream...

It's all about how regardless of the fact that you would do anything for this girl she thinks extremely lowly of you and as much as we want it to be true, we can't love a girl into loving or even liking us back......

"She said don't.. Don't let it go to your head (Slow your role dude)

Boys like you are a dime a dozen (in keeping with the general tone of the that will follow I've always considered this to be like what they are describing as like the girls attempt to take the worst type of dig possible to really unnecessarily rudely
(I dont know if this was just the acoustic version but he always I believe acknlowdges and agrees with the notion as well with the smallest change with the biggest change in meaning and self deprication and/or admission)
Boys like ME are a dime a dozen
She said

You're a touch overrated (and sarcasm is just one of te tools on my utility belt of ultra bitch weapons)
You're a lush and I hate it (and I know that's gunna dig deep and really strike a cord, not only do I want to break up I would like you to die thanks

But these grass stains on my knees they won't mean a thing (and I would still come back on my knees begging and basically being like super sympathetic since for some reason the phrasing really seemed to hit home and stroke chords far outside the Emo scene)

The chorus is as follows

And all I
Need to know
Is that I'm something that you're missing (john at one point adds "something that you're missing til it's better" he repeats other lines but not No need for this purpose)
Maybe I should hate you for this
Never really did ever quite get that far...
Maybe I should hate you for this
Never really did ever quite get that .. Far.

I'm gunna stop it there and kinda let the chorus speak for itself. Obviously my parenthetical additions tried poor attempts at humor I think you can see how the tone pattern of the awesome song is the girl seems to be taking extremely unnecessarily harsh and hurtful things and the seemingly quintessential prerequisite for any trueblue "Emo" song -

The females complete lack of regard for the male's feelings in ANY way shape or form!
(That's the weird thing about the whole Emo scene most people were ashamed to admit they like it cause the type of music that strikes a chord with a certain audience tends to share a lot of similar traits like being kinda shy anyway, maybe felt lonely.. Basically just another version of people who tended to probaby feel like I said lonely and also maybe like no one else felt the ways they did and being shy and whatever else you wanna call it shit for half the Emo scene you might even just call it being a dude if you so chose just whatever that reason we all have that makes us feel vulnerable and/or alone and/or some sort of porirah or loser or degenerate maybe even ALL of the above

the Emo music scene really tended to give people that thought they were standing in a dark room without a light switch a soothing comfortable relaxing guidance to where that switch is especially when so much of us gave up hope seemingly or had a hard time shaking the Great Wall of pesimissim that stands before me. And whenever there's talk of feelings especially dudes having feelings and being brutally honest about how most people feel like they can either relate to at least if not recall from experience the. Obviously the macho jock being fueled by testosterone and whatever the f other hormones we had effing ish up in our adolescence sees lyrics addressing feelings so they obviously make fun of the "Emo" kids and while that kinda became, to me at least, a rallying cry of sorts almost (though Emo kids were honestly notorious for being super smug about how everything in their lives are super non mainstream everything is totally everything but conforming to whoever their general idea of the big bad guy was - corporate America .. Your principal even maybe.. "The man" is a good blanket term for an example of the notion for the enemy in their eyes (I think at least)

The only thing I regret was the fashion choices that seemed to be chosen just to be like directly opposite of what Joe Schmo who cares about doing everything right would do cause it bred some bizarre and embarrassing trends that I am ashamed to say I tried mostly. I triedmost of what I seemed to perceive the trends were from shows and stuff AlThough I did keep "cliche" Emo trends but truthfully because I reallt enjoyed it not because I felt like I needed to Identify as a member of the Emo scene) the only cliche Emo things I always had was onviously the "guy bangs" that are like Premanetly just long enough to have to be brushed out of your eyes all day haha(I had to use a girls straightener too) also super right to shirts typically a band t-shirt, unless you're going to a show, cause then it's a tight band t shirt with matching chuck Taylor's (I even had purple) or vans slip one (and by the way, don't you DARE wear the t shrt of the band that's playing because let me tell youu people will talkkkk about you and say oh man what a loser poser wannabe Emo kid pppffft can't stand those emos... ....He said as he brushed his bangs out of his face and pulled his extra small t shirt between the half inch gap between his studded belt and daphne loves derby tshirt...claiming you weren't apart in anyway shape or form of the Emo scene was pretty common around me anyway. It was so stupidly ironic that we mostly hated being Told to conform to a certain way because you're told to but we would clearly be apart of a group that required a certain type of behavior and look kind of .. Not a good or bad thing just almost like a puzzle piece that's a good piece but only for one puzzle

ANYWAY----WHY I WAS COMPELLED TO POST WAS ACTUALLY UNRELATED COMPLETLY

While most people will recall this from the catchy tune that "struck a chord" as is said by adam and taking back Sunday, there is no doubt that this lyric is absolutely a reference to a great movie that I bet most you hVe actually probably saw but probably wasn't an extremely meaningful point or notion just in a comedy movie about a bunch of people at the high school graduation party...

Can't Hardly Wait.

Came out in 90s .. Think 95 ish but the point is that it totally seems like the type of movie they would be watching and find I inspiration from

The most popular dude from last year comes back a year done from freshman year college. Down depressed hopeless the dude is destitute and almost even despondent in a sense

Sits down next to Mr Big Shot BrigHt Idea who represents every single dude that gets the girl in real life and gives him the honest advice that motivated him ,.. Well really scared him to be honest enough to put grass stains on his knees and put himself out In front of the whole graduating senior class who are no doubt sponging this all up WTF do u do at reunions then...

College dude tells mr big shot the freshman are like virtually as wanted or in demand as like Zima these days lol .. He tells him they don't want him or any of them and he tried relentlessly all year and though he was def a little drunk he was really honest about how unsuccessful he was with the ladies now.

And college actually says the term "guys like us.. Guys like us are a dime a dozen man". Worthless. Clearly.

If you took the time to read this (skip the Emo shit whatev) and see now not only the context of the line/phrase from the original reference, but also through evidences pointed out specifically and directly from the TBS song we all know and love (and now I'm sure you would also in this same vein likely agree or at minimum see how great a title is as a summation of it's meaning "YOU'RE SO LAST SUMMER" they were great at naming what I always kinda personally termed as "picture words" and impressive lyrical summations for the title.

Picture words are a group of words or a phrase that instantly evokes so many ways that notion or phrase or action whatever it is (this song for example- you're so last summer- seems to fit so ideally to the tone. Kind of saw it as yet another dig but this one almost kind of comically immature of an insult, in a way kind of to draw people to want to see what it's about it's kind of interesting phrasing... They they do some crazy type thing everyone references like having flava flav in the video and kind of generate a certain type of notion/expectation that does soooo well to compliment lyrics) also think it had a dual meaning since that's super common where it's kind of like a conclusion from the male point of view where like after you've reflected on everything and how she just ripped you apart no matter how vulernable and desperate you clearly were ... Like when you gave her a look that said more than words ever could she clearly took a beat to try and decipher it and once she decided I was down and out she still only took a quick beat laughing over my corpse as she walked away from it ... Like the perfect ideal phrase that he came finally to conclude after all the reflection lead to brutal suppressed realizations but the journey is done, the ride is over, the plane has landed. His jeans are fresh his shirt lacks stains of blood now and though in the past he was willing to do whatever it took to win back love, you just can't. It's over, she's over and EFF her for having to stick and rotate the knife slowly, and having what you're certain you remember what must hae been a witch's cackle as she smiled to eat turning the blade...
This certain closed I'm down with you I'm cutting you out and I'm so ridiculously over you it's come to the point where the journey o realizations in the song lead me right back to home. And then when you put that all together how can you tell me that's not the perfect phrase to sum up the afterthought of this succubbus ....... I'm over it for real. No joke girl. Deaded.
You're SO Last Summer

It is quite the insult, actually.

IF you COULD purchase 12 things (12 = a dozen) for one dime then how much would those things be worth? Not very much. They would be worth less than a penny, obviously. They might also be referred to as "cheap" or, what we might call now, fake.

This also means that you can replace this person very easily if you wanted to. They are worthless in your life, see?

People are suppose to be invaulable, right? We are all unique and special in our own ways and, thus, we are WORTH a lot. Saying that someone is worth less to you than a penny is might not be so nice. I don't think I'd want to be friends with anyone who told me that!

"Boys like you are a dime a dozen" is part of the lyrics from You're So Last Summer by Taking Back Sunday. They just mean that the boy is absolutely worthless. It's an insult in all forms.

#1... KF: no

#2. dime a dozen means "easy to come by, next to worthless",
so a boy that's a dime a dozen is not special or unique and not worth your time:)

Whoo Taking Back Sunday =)

If you only spend a dime on a dozen of something - then its really cheap. So if a boy thats like something is only a dime a dozen, that means they are worth next to nothing.

So if it says She said
"don't, don't let it go to your head
Boys like you are a dime a dozen,
Boys like you are a dime a dozen"
She said
"you're a touch overrated,
you're a lush and I hate it,
but these grass stains on my knees
they won't mean a thing"

it means... Don't let this one thing good about you go to your head, you're not that great. You are ACTUALLY overrated, but whatever I've got going on won't matter, only you will even if its not worth it.

When something is a dome a dozen, that means they're average and easy to find. It's usually not a good thing if you're trying to be different.

That's a good song. Anyways, it basically means that boys like you come around a lot or boys like you aren't that special.

It means you can buy 12 boys for ten cents.
Which means the boy is easily replaceable.
