Is what they say true?

Question Posted Thursday September 29 2005, 8:16 pm

Well, I LOVE middle school, but...its not the greatest. I'm not ugly, I've been out with a couple diff. guys the last few years, and I'm friends with regular/kinda popular/popular people. Although I'm not popular, and I'm not a geek. I have a feeling this year more guys are noticing me 'cause I've gone through some "look changes" as my friends call it, but I've heard that everyone has more fun/life gets better in High School.

I heard most guys get more mature, get done with puberty, etc, and girls get prettier, get nicer, get more mature, etc. Is it true? Does your life really get better in High School?

I'm just wondering. This question is really for anyone who's ever been trough public High School & Middle School. Thanks, everyone!

(13, 8th grade, yeah...)

yes to all of your questions, most guys get more mature, most- to all get done with puberty
the girls get prettier because they start wearing makeup and their acne isnt as bad, so yes, life is better in high school.

YES. Life does get better in high school, though not everyone gets more mature. I graduated from public high school last year, and a lot of people who I went to middle school with were the same immature bastards. I did make a lot of new friends in high school though, and they are some of the best friends I've ever had.

High School is -a lot- worse than Middle School.
High School has drama. Not "Oh my god, Jason told Amy to fuck off". It's more like "Oh my god, your best friend got knocked up by your other friend's boyfriend who happens to be your ex-boyfriend".
High School has a popularity food chain. If you rate plankton and you piss the lion off, you may go through the rest of school being ridiculed by everyone.
High School has peer pressure. Instead of being the first one to buy the new Guess purse, you need to be the first to date the most popular guy in school, be friends with everyone, try every drug on the planet, get wasted at all the in parties and lose your virginity before senior year.
High School has teachers. Teachers that don't care if your dog died or your best friend had a break down, you NEED to get that assignment in.
Worst of all, High School has hormonal boys. You think the guys mature? Nope. You have the same pre-hormonal boys. Only now, they're hormonal in PACKS.
So generally, you learn a new language where "You are my hero!" means, "Wait, till I tell everyone what a freak you are!" and "I love you" means "Take off your pants now because I only have one condom and my parents are coming home in thirty minutes."
Trust me, High School sucks. Enjoy your time at Middle School while you still can.

It really depends on your "social status". I am currently a nerd in high school. Socially I really dont care what people think. I think that you will be happier in high school if you just blow of the whole popularity issue. Be yourself and it can only go up!
Hope this helps

Whoa. Someone's made high school sound like the OC for you. Well, I'm sorry to say its not all that much of a big ass change - eh, it depends really. You'll get more homework and more responsibility but yes you will find that a few people mature a bit more. Its the growing process, not the transition from middle to high school. Getting prettier and nicer? No, high school is not Extreme Makeover. But I hope that things go well for you - high school if fun if you avoid trouble =).

Well I'm not going to lie to you. It can be either the best experience of your life or the worst.

If you do okay now, and you have good friends, you will do fine. You don't have to be popular.

Both the boys and girls start maturing and some will change for the better.

Don't worry to much about it. High school can be fun I don't say that to make you worry about it. :)

TheTeenGirl answered Thursday September 29 2005, 9:11 pm:
Well, I am a freshmen this year, and I really enjoy highschool because you're treated more like an adult, and you'll appreciate being treated as an adult more than anything. But, its probably stupid to take advantage of it and skip a class and get caught. But, as for the guys, yes, they are more mature, but you probably won't notice it until you're a junior, (11th grade). I wouldn't really know because I'm only in 9th grade, but I'm not quite noticing anything yet in freshmen boys. In middle school, theres just a lot of imaturity and drama, there isn't as much at high school, because again, people are changing and growing up. When you enter high school, thats when you start thinking about what you want out of your life more, and getting serious about your grades. It sounds pretty stressful, but it really is a better school.

Your question reminds me so much of myself when I was in 8th grade.. it's almost scary. I'm sure you already know this, but middle school sucks. It's when everyone's either going through puberty or waiting for it to start. The things you've heard about high school are pretty much true, but some people never stop being bitchy and immature. I'm a junior at a public high school, so I concider myself a good person to advise you about this.... Once they hit high school, people do a lot of maturing. Guys grow up and stop acting like little kids and most girls realize that being "poplular" isn't really what's most important. As for getting prettier, I don't know about that.. some people are just ugly.... but people do get to be more understanding with time. Once you learn more about life, that's when you start to be more accepting of people that aren't exactly the same as you. It's not an overnight thing, but it does happen. Middle school is the most ackward time of a person's life, no doubt. I wouldn't go back there for anything in the world.

Depends how you look at it and what you make of it. High school could be really great and a lot of fun...or it could be the worst ever. Don't expect it to be the worst ever either though. Really, if you do your work, don't get into trouble, not mean to anyone, and just try to have fun, then I don't see how high school couldn't be a blast. Now if you let it take over you and let people push you around and let everything bad said about you get to you and make you feel bad, and don't do your work, and get into trouble...then yeah it probably won't be great at all. So it's what you make of it. First off its new for everyone in your grade, so no you aren't the only one feeling nervous or on what to do or say or wear or anything. Hope that helped.
