ADHD

Question Posted Thursday September 29 2005, 8:08 pm

I'm 13/f in the 7th grade

For a while, I've been having a real hard time paying attention. I get really bored easily, and I fidget a lot, I'm really slow (physically), and I get lethargic a lot. and I'm VERRRY disorganized. My school learning specialist said that there's a possibility of me having ADHD. but when I was little, I was always full of energy. Usually ADHD shows up in kids when they're little. Does my case sound like ADHD???

I know what you are going through, my brother was the same way, why don't you try talking to a psyciatrist. (trust me it is not as bad as it sounds, and once you get treated, you will feel a whole lot better)my brother had the same symptoms, and at first they thought he had ADHD, but, he also had moodswings, if this describes you, talk to your doctor about Bipolar disorder. That is what my brother has. ADHD can show up at any age, even adults can get it. If you are apprehensive about going to a psyciatrist, don't be. I have anxiety problems sometimes, and since I talked to a doctor, and got medicine, i feel a whole lot better. ADHD, seems to be occuring in kids more than it used to, so there is a big chance of it. Talk to your parents first though.
Hope I helped...hersheylover...

I guess so but it really sounds like you need to relax somehow by going to physical theripy and having something plesant done like a message and maybe that would loosen you up a bit.

girl, i feel ya. i have had ADHD since i was 3, and im 18 now. took me until 2 years ago to get help. so listen to me i understand. i could not do my homework without like 50 million breaks nad stuff, i spaced out and all sorts of things. it is very hard to live with ADHD. ppl who dont have it dont understand. our brains are different. what you need to do is get diagnosed by a doctor or psycologist. if it is bad and you want you can get on meds for it. i take Strattera, and it works miracles. trust me. go get checked out. the sooner you fix the problem, the better. trust me i didnt get help until the middle of my junior year, and i wish i would have earlier. good luck and let me know how it goes ok?

None of us on here can tell you if you have it or not - you need to ask a doctor/psychologist; the person who diagnoses that sort of thing. But on the whole, you could possibly just be like every other teenager that cant stand being in class. You sound like me and I sure as hell am not ADHD. But still - get it checked out, and dont feel like a freak or anything. Good luck.

Age doesn't play a factor in ADD/ADHD as there are many adults who have never been diagnosed. As others have said, your best idea is to speak to the proper medical professional who can evaluate your situation and recommend a treatment.

Oh so many initialed disorders!

I don't think you have ADHD. That is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder I do believe. If you had that you wouldn't pay attention and you'd be all over the place.

You may just have ADD. which is attention deficit disorder. Even adults get diagnosed with it these days.

Personally I think they are both over diagnosed.
It isn't something a doctor should diagnose anyway, its a psychiatric problem.

A learning specialist probably thinks everyone has it since that's their specialty. Doesn't mean you might not have it though. Have your doctor refer you to one who can tell you for sure. :)

I know someone who has ADHD, and he was so hyper when he was little he had to take riddlin. He would push people, scream, jump up and down for hours at a time, he was crazy.

But, yes, maybe you have ADHD. Although I've been trying to tell my Mom I have ADD, because I have a hard time paying attention. I get bored and start daydreaming, she says I don't. She says if you have the following you are:

-Bad grades
-Forget to do everything (aka homework, etc)
-Really hyper
-Mood swings
-Not remembering almost everything

Anyways, if you want real results, you should ask your doctor to test you if you're that worried. ^_^

Good luck! <3
