Hey you guys seem to have really good taste in movies. I was wondering if you'd give me any recomendations. Anything that deals with
psychology, drug use or a movie that makes you think. I've seen Thirteen and Spun so anything else would be great. Thanks alot.

poa answered Thursday August 4 2005, 2:17 am: Hmm...
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-Adaptation
-Memento
Those - in my opinion are must see movies. And I think you will be pleased with any of the three (Adaptation is much harder to understand than the others ~ Be prepared to watch it through more than once) [ poa's advice column | Ask poa A Question ]
Alpha345 answered Thursday August 4 2005, 1:17 am: I would definately suggest The Matrix (and maybe it's sequels, but they aren't as thought provoking, they are more action orientated) because of all the philosophy surrounding it. Every second of that movie has some kind of philophical meaning to it and the analogies you can make from it are absolutely astounding.
Also another movie I would recommend is Constantine because of its questions and answers on the level of faith and the human mind. It may not be as good as the comics (which I consider on e of my favorites), but still the movie stuck out great to me because of its questioning of issues (such as suicide, demonology, the occult, God).
TheOldOne answered Thursday August 4 2005, 12:05 am: I'm old, so here are some older movies:
Altered States - inspired by the sensory deprivation experiments of Dr. John Lilly, and in turn the inspiration of Ah-Ha's video of "Take On Me".
Videodrome - one of James Woods' first films, this is a mind-bending film from David Cronenberg. After I first saw it, for about half an hour I questioned the nature of reality.
Freud (1962) - I've never seen the whole thing, but a friend of mine is a HUGE fan.
Dreamscape - a slightly corny science fiction thriller, but its presentation of dreams is actually quite well done, considering the special effects of the time. A fun movie.
The Third Man - this classic film noir has nothing to do with psychology or drug use. It's just one of the greatest, most adult films that was ever made - and that's not just my opinion, but the opinion of a huge number of film experts and reviewers. If it doesn't make you think, I can't imagine why.
The Tenth Level - this movie is apparently quite rare, but it's a dramatization of the famous Milgram experiments, in which subjects were willing to torture other people to death by remote control because they were told to by people in authority. I've never seen it myself, but I'd love to.

DaysGoBy answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 11:59 pm: What About Bob (It doesn't make you think, but it's a funny movie about a psychiatrist and his crazy patient)
LoLo2454 answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 11:49 pm: I love movies like that. Try Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Garden State. They are all great. Oh, Sin City is awesome too. Its very artistic. Enjoy :)
Pressing_On answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 11:46 pm: Actually my two favorite movies would be good here.. theyre not that well known of movies but you should be able to find them somewhere.
First is "Donnie Darko".. that's a really complex movie, I had to watch it a couple times to understand it, and i still find new things out every time i watch it. It's about this 17 year old guy dealing with teenage life and has time travel mixed in.
The second is "Bang Bang You're Dead". It's another one about teenage life, but this one deals more with school and how kids get teased, more issues dealing with violence in/related to school.
Hope you like them, and feel free to inbox me with any questions. [ Pressing_On's advice column | Ask Pressing_On A Question ]

I love movies that make you think. They are the best. My favorites would have to be a beautiful mind and requiem for a dream.
