I am 13 and my parents still treat me like a baby! They won't let me get hair highlights! How do I convince them to let me get highlights??
I rate very high!

artistegirly answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 12:40 am: I'm 14 1/2 and i got highlights for the first time last month!! Your parents may not want you to get them because they are expensive and you have to keep doing it every few months because of the roots. I suggest you offer to pay for it by yourself, and if they won't take you, have a friend take you and get it done yourself! Your parents will get over it pretty easily, espesially if it's done right and looks good! Just make sure when you go you know what color you want and if you want a lot or little and if you have more hair thy're gonna charge you for the extra goop they use!
charmed3fanatic answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 12:18 am: you have to show them that you are machore and you can handle it.. you have to do things around the house and maybe even right a report on why you shoudl get your hair highlighted.. i did both of them to get a cell phone and it worked :-) expecially the report.. my mom was like omg! you wrote a report! so try them :-) [ charmed3fanatic's advice column | Ask charmed3fanatic A Question ]

good luck!!
xcheerbabex108 answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 12:13 am: Wow. Tell your parents that you have certain needs. And one of those would be highlights. I mean...your 13..you need to have all your needs. My mom let me get highlights that way...i didn't say it exactly that way..but it was similar.
Loveneverdies answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 12:06 am: I had the same problem. My mother is very strict. I wanted to get them so badly, cuz everyone else had them. I think you should ask your parents to let you try a wash out of the color you want, see if you like it and if they do. Then maybe in sometime you can get permant.
But i warn you, i dont know how dark your hair is but mine is naturally pure black. I got brown highlights and it showed up orange (i mean like pumpkin orange) I got them in Feb. I was teased for months "Halloween is in October dipshit" It sucked. I'm not trying to scare you about getting them, im just telling you my story of what could happen. Its August and im going to my salon once a month to get a shine treatment, slowing reducing the color. It costs my mom $60 a month.
Everytime we go, she always says "i told you so"
It sucks.
(im not saying this will happen to you, heck it might be worse, or if you have any amount of degree in luck [[unlike me]] it will turn out fine)

xRoOxiSxBlOnDex answered Tuesday August 2 2005, 11:55 pm: Highlights can be simple. They don't have to be extravagent, and you don't have to pay lots of money to get them done. Do-it-yourself home kits work just as well [depending on your skill] & you can always fix it.
I suggest you try to persuede them by showing how responsible you are. Also, pay for it yourself that way if you don't get a color you like, or if you want it changed back, it will be your own mistake and they can't say anything about it because it's not their money. Good luck!
