I hear a lot of people say that applying toothpaste on pimples helps to clear it. I asked my dermatologist if that was a good remedy, but she said that there's no known ingredient in toothpaste that would aid to get rid of pimples. Does it really work? I would try it out myself, but I'm a little skeptical of putting toothpaste on my face.
ello_there_matie_lol answered Wednesday August 3 2005, 5:31 pm: no! it doesnt work! trust me, i've tried it. all it did was irritate it and made it more red and noticable. try using a face product made for acne. i find neautregena(sp) helpful.

LoLo2454 answered Monday August 1 2005, 2:05 am: if your afraid, try buying oxy or clearsil or stridex (acne medicne type stuff) or you can just go to your fridge and grab some lemon juice, it works pretty good, but stridex works better IMO

Michelley answered Sunday July 31 2005, 11:57 pm: just like clearasil or retina micro it drys it up. so yeah it works, i read it in cosmogirl. but it also said if you put too much and it like gets on ur skin that it will also dry up ur skin and then you'll have dry skin even tho your zit will be going away. so it sok to do just as long as you don't put too much and not on the skin around your zit but just on it.

t0xicParadiSe answered Sunday July 31 2005, 11:55 pm: from my experience it just dries it up and the pimple is still there
so i would say toothpaste doesnt always work
but if you want you could still try maybe you will get lucky!
and its okay to put toothpaste on your face your not putting it all over just on the pimple itself
MFS answered Sunday July 31 2005, 11:16 pm: As a chemist, I agree with your dermatologist. The only toothpastes that might have any effect are those that contian peroxide for whitening... and even then the odds that the peroxide would get absorbed into your skin are slim. The toothpaste matrix just isn't meant for topical application.
Someone mentioned how clearasil "dries it up"... clerasil and the like contain benzoylperoxide... note that it is a peroxide.. much like the hydrogen peroxide in some toothpastes... THAT is what kills the pimple - the peroxide actively reacts with the bacteria in the pimple to kill them, allowing it to heal. It also drives water out of the pimple, "drying it out". Regular toothepaste does not do this - or it would dry your teeth out. Think about it... ;) [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
