Public School
Ok, I've been going to private school for 9 years, and for the first time I will be going to public. I'm really freaked out. Is public school really as bad as everyone says? I mean do people like actually get beaten up and raped? and how do I protect myself? How do I know who to hang out with? Please help me.

i have a friend who came from a private school to my public school and she really loved it we go to a pretty bad school (36 bomb threats last year) but its still really fun and trust me its not that horrible. as for who to hang with find people with the same intrests as you it should be easy to fit in

thats what i did.. i had to meet all new people, it sucked.. but no, public school isnt that bad. i dont know where you live or what school it is so i cant really tell you how YOUR school is..but dont worry - you'll be fine! make friends with people in your classes and stay away from people you get a bad feeling about.

Public school is just a little rougher,no uniforms,bad food and cliques.
Try to make some friends,or let them come to you.
Don't have a worry,I've been going to public school all my life and the only way people get 'beat up' is if they mutually enter a fight with somone else.

Oh wow.. you need to calm down first of all. I've been going to public school for a really long time && its not bad!! I guess it just depends on what school you acually go to. Its not scary at all and its acaully a lot of fun. You will meet tons of people. When you get there you will see who's a bad influeance and who isnt. You will find people that you like. Not everyone is a bad kid. Yes there is some fights but the raping is higly rare!! Your school will have lots of rules and people will follow it. Be nice to everyone and try to make more friends.

i'm going to base my answer as if you were coming to my school. Yes people get beaten up, pregnant, smoke every drug you could think of and one person has even gotten raped but it depends on who you get involved with. One big key element in public school is to mind your own business. it's not that hard to fit in to public schools. i'm guessing you're in high school and there is a group for every type of person. we get new kids all the time and within two days they have a crowd of friends with them. Don't be scared despite all of the horrible things that go on because about 80% of the time it's not exposed to you.

I go to public school. Its basically the same as any other school. Just don't hang out with the druggies and people like that. Just be friends with whoever you want. Maybe join something where you can meet people in. Sure there might be bullies but what school doesn't have em. Just dont make em mad and the shouldn't bother you. Everything will be okay! ♥

Public school is NOT that bad. I have gone to public school since pre school and I have never heard of anything that bad at least not where I go to school. Of course you get the occasional bully andthe average problems but I don't think many kids are raped at least not in most districs. As to who you want to hang out with you decide. Public school is unfortunatly built of stereotypes so either way you go there sgonna be someone who disagrees with your choice but thats life. Mkae ht ebest friends you can study hard and have fun! Its not like your gonna get another chance

No. People make public school seem sooooo horrible. I went to a private school for 3 years and when I went to public school I was totally freaked too. But it's fine. People like public school more than they like private I'll tell you that!! Hope this helps!!!

Hey Swty. Well going from private to public school is really not as harsh as everyone makes it sound. Private school (depending on which 1 you went to) has it own rules and regulations and dress policy. Public Schools are a little more leniant on behavior and attitude adjustements. I can almost 100 % guarantee you that you won't get raped.lol. I've been going to public school 4 a while and 4 the most part people are pretty friendly. I would try to become friends w. the popular people in your school because than they can introduce you 2 more people> It's like skipping a step. Another really good way to meet new people is 2 join a team like track, cheerleading, softball...w.e. floats your boat. You can really become close to people through sports and enjoy and get good exercise from them too. It depends where your going to Public School but maybe there's a club near by that you can go to w. a couple of your old friends just to meet some ppl. Aww, dont worry public school honestly isnt THAT bad. And this is coming from a girl who absolutely HATES school. The only reason I DO go to school is BECAUSE of my friends. So, if its the people you're worried about, dont be. The people at public schools are JUST LIKE the people at private.
Ive never heard of someone being raped at a school. Wherever you hear those things is like one of those weird abnormal experiences and it doesnt happen all the time trust me. I havent even heard of it.. but yeah, as far as getting beat up, people wont just go pick on you for no reason.. and if they do then you just report them, but its not likely to happen.
And you'll definitely know who to hang out with. The people in public schools are no different then the people in public. Dont worry.. honestly..

Don't be afraid! If people were beat up and raped all the time, I don't think parents would want their children going to school then would they? Unfortunately we DO go to school, but at least you know that it's not THAT unsafe.
Sure people get beat up. But those are only people that start the fights. And anyway, a teacher always comes and breaks it up.
Well first of all are you academically smart? I'm assuming you are since you've been in a private school for 9 years. If you are in honors and/or AP classes I guarantee you there will be mostly good kids that know who to hang out with and who to stay away from. I'm not trying to stereotype, but from my own experience these are the people you will want to hang out with.
How do you protect yourself? Don't walk alone when the school's getting empty or at night (It's common sense). If you're scared, carry around a cell phone.

You worry a little too much. I have gone to a public school my whole life & its perfectly fine. Yes, occasionally people get into fights...but I haven't heard about someone getting raped at school. Hang out with people who are a lot like you. That share the same interests. Trust me hunni, public school is f-i-n-e. Good luck & stop the worrying :)

Noo Private School just like public... no one gets raped... Some people do get beat up tho.. i mean you wont unless you put yourself out there... Some people just say "Oh I'm gonna take this person on" then never show.. They just are all talk!! you can protect yourself by having friends back you up... I cant tell you who to hang out with i mean like hang out with a whole bunch of people then just kind of choose a group... Its Not Bad to go to public school!!

NO its like a privite school everyone tries to fit in!they like pick on peoples looks! i go to a public school and i never have gotten in to trouble ! but it all depends on what school who you hang out with but don't change who your are or you might get in the wrong groups! there is a lot of dirty talk! And tons of people saying wanna have sex or i'm not a virgin but aslong as you hang with the right school you will be fine and if you have a promble talk to the teachers! people will say stuff about your body good and nasty people will grab your butt but if you tell a teacher they can get in trouble and most likey not dare do it again. If someone starts a fight with you walk away or tell a teacher. just try to be nice to everyone but not too nice if you know what i mean, and remember its like any school! sorry its a LOT! please rate high :) don't worry you will be fine!

RELAX...its okay. a lot of public schools are just as safe as a private school if not safer. if your unsafe about it when you make some friends tell them about it...im sure they will understand and will be willing to help you feel comfortable. as for who to hang out with look for someone like you...some one who enjoys the same thing as you.

public school is perfectly fine! (..well, unless you live in a REALLY bad area) there'll be some changes.. more crowded, different way of teaching, etc but it's nothing out of the ordinary. you'll be fine. the first day of school, try to make some conversation with someone that seems nice and just take it from there. it's not that bad! :) good luck!

Yeah, that must be terrifying for you. At first, being transfered from isolation to civilization can be freaky, but after the first year, you'll adapt to it. Also, people don't get raped at school.

yeah its a lot different than home school obviously but its not that bad. no people dont get raped in school..i have never heard of such a thing! yes people get into fights occasionally (it depends on your schoool how many figts there are)
The people who are friendly are good choices to hang out with..im sure you dont want to hang with 'the wrong crowd' so get to know the smart kids.
You dont need to do much to protect yourself..just dont start any "beef" and you will be fine. the kids who figght are usually the same kids fighting so i think you will be just fine

same here next year i am going to a huge public school and i havent been in one since second grade but it depends where you live. i dont know anyone at my school that has been beaten or raped and i know alot of people. about the hanging out thing, just hang out with whoever you think is nice because nice people usually wont hurt you

yeah public schools are rough, but only if you purposly try to piss people off, no they dont get raped, that is a load of b.s people say to scare otheres, however they do get beaten up but only if you talk trash to the wrong person, just be yourself and hang out with the ppl you think are cool, and you should be just fine.so just take it easy and watch the show begin, lol, lemme know how it goes.
