Overweighted brother

Question Posted Tuesday July 19 2005, 2:22 pm

I have a little brother who is 6 years old. His name is Denis. I love him and all, but.. he's a weirdo. He's overweight.. he's only 6 and hes 114 lbs. I dont know how to tell him he's overweight without hurting his feelings. It's kind of cute though.. I call him my little oompa loompa. Hehe. Well, please give me much advice. Thanks much!

Aww, he seems cute! I wouldn't tell him, just tell your mom or dad. Tell them that they need to do something about it because it's a health risk. Try to change his diet a bit and give him more healthier foods. Don't let him drink soda or anything, and make sure he drinks a lot of water. If he's not involved in any sports, then get him involved. It's really fun and it's great exercise! When my little brother was around 6 he played baseball and he had a lot of fun! Hope I helped!

you can't really tell him that he is overweight without crushing him in some way. just let him be like that. my brother was overweight when he was little and into his early teens, but now he is 18 and looks better than ever. your brother will grow out of it, so don't worry. he's only six!! just let him live.

He should probably see a doctor. He might have a medical problem that is causing him to gain weight. However, this is more of a problem for your parents to deal with. Telling a 6 year old that he is overweight is just going to go right over his head. He is to young to understand the whole thing. One thing you can do is make sure you don't bring him pop or candy all the time. Maybe play some games that get him some exercise.
Make him play outside instead of watching a lot of TV. :)

ask him to go running with you, or play basketball or volleyball or swim or tennis or something. have your parents take him to a doctor and to a nutritionist. sugest he eat an apple for a snack instead of cake or something like that.

I wouldn't tell him he's overweight. My sister is also overweight, she is seven years old and 94 pounds so I told her to lose weight and she took it kind of bad. Now we just try to help her eat healthy snacks, such as grapes and apples. My mom won't buy junk food anymore either, since she wants us all to lose weight. Well anyway, just do what my family does. When you go shopping with one of your parents, try to pick out more healthy things. And drink a lot of water. I've lost fifteen pounds since I last went to the doctor, and I think this will help your brother also.

Hope I helped,

Well im sure he knows he's over weight.. and if he doesnt, then hes not old enough to help himself neways. But you can help him.. by maybe giving up you're sweets for a while. Because im sure he looks up to you, and if you dont eat them, he wont. But that is if you're willing to give up them yummy cookies. =) haha good luck babe.!

ok, fisrt, start talking about weight and how much you feel like excising. Tell him that you want to spend more time with him and then offer him to take a jog with you that way he works out and it doesn't seem like your affended by his weight. After he loses the weight, make sure you tell him how great he looks and still pay attention to him. Hope this helps!!

well first off you say it's cute?? but one thing i was like that at his age.. i was luckly to loose all the weight, but i still got stuck with the health problems.. he could end up with type two diabetes, heart problems, and worst of all emotional problems.. kids are mean these days and don't care about others feelings. he needs to learn to eat healthy.. maybe stop him from eating more then needed most should eat three PORTIONED meals and two snacks.. eating healthy, drinking water, and exercise should be something u could help him with... and ya know be honest and don't beat around the bush.. i know he's young but he needs to hear it from you before the teasing starts

I think that you should do more things with him like more running activites. Some of it might be baby fat, some people dont loose that untill around 15! so maybe that is some of the reason. Make kool looking snacks such as "ants on a log"
1. Celery with peanut butter inside and "ants" (raisons) ontop!
2. I dont know how healthy it is but try peanut Butter and banana sandwhiches (sounds gross, but tastes good!) I hope I helped! ♥Andie

Hey,
Do you really think that a 6 year old boy should have to worry about his weight??? Well i know its un attractive and stuff but at his age what does it really matter?! Girls still have cooties to him! Dont go right out and tell him that hes overweight. Just tell him to lay low on the sweets and fatty foods and start eating healthy. If he doesnt mind being overweight then let him eat how he wants. I
**much love**

Maybe you don't really HAVE to tell him... You should talk to your parents about it and maybe they can start making sure he eats healthy and you could play with him more. Like take him outside and play basketball or tag or whatever kinda games that involve a lot of activity. I hope this helps. <3 Kris'

---Edit---
And since he IS 6 you SHOULD start helping him now... I don't know what the hell the person above me thinks is going to happen to him in a few years, but if he is overweight at 6, chances are he'll be overweight when he's a teen if things don't start to change NOW. It'd be easier to start now and help him lose it now than to wait until he's older.... DO NOT just let him eat whatever he wants just to be happy for the moment. If he eats well and stays healthy now he'll be happier in general later than being unhealthy and upset about his weight later on in life.
