Ignorance_Combatant answered Thursday June 23 2005, 12:03 am: I began babysitting when I was eleven, though that is uncommon. I've babysat small children (1-2 year olds) and "middle aged kids" (5-8) and then older kids who are 8-11. Of course, I wasn't eleven when I "babysat" the eleven year old; but you get the idea. Mostly I babysat her three year old brother. Most people start babysitting when they're thirteen or fourteen. You get to set your own rates. Each "deal" for me is different. It depends on how many kids and for how long and if one of them is still in diapers, if I have to cook for them etc. etc. The most I've ever made was 100$, but that's alot I guess you should say. I was babysitting three kids under the age of 8, one of them in diapers, for eleven hours. That was some hard earned cash. Some people charge $8-11 per hour, but it just depends for each person. Also, you've got to want to babysit - not just do it for the money. That means watching SpongeBob SquarePants, playing 'house' and Barbie, changing diapers, jumping on the trampoline, fixing sandwiches, putting kids down for naps, TV control (can't be watching bad stuff), Internet control (can't be online too long or be on wrong sites) and make sure they don't fight. It can be a handful, but if you're ready and don't mind any of those things - you're set! [ Ignorance_Combatant's advice column | Ask Ignorance_Combatant A Question ]

And i would say 5$ an hour unless they would like to pay you more. [ ShYbl0nD3's advice column | Ask ShYbl0nD3 A Question ]
xxurockxx answered Wednesday June 22 2005, 10:26 pm: i think i was about 11 years old. i usually took whatever they payed me but my mom always told me when i was that young that i should charge $5/ hr for the first kid and $1 extra/ hr for each additional kid. now im 17 n i would charge more just because im older and more mature.
LisaLeilani answered Wednesday June 22 2005, 10:24 pm: usually around 12 or older
charge depends on what kind of area you live in like if you live in the Gettos then like 5 dollars and hour if you live in a rich neighborhood you can charge up to 15 dollars but io say the safest bet is around 6-7 dollars. thats what i chare and i also get a fat tip ! :P
kitty_kat123 answered Wednesday June 22 2005, 10:13 pm: Well,
it all depends on what you charge and you have to work it out with them. I used to charge $3 per hour, per child. For example, if the woman/man has 2 children, you'll be making $6 an hour. People USUALLY start in the summer because a lot of people don't want to pay OUTRAGEOUS day care prices. Also, kids are out of school while their parents have to work and a lot of people want other people to watch their kids for them. I think it's a great idea. To get people to realize you, I used to make little fliers and hang them on peoples doors or put them in their mailboxes.
Best of luck!
Hope I helped!

orphans answered Wednesday June 22 2005, 10:07 pm: a lot of kids start babysitting when they're around 13 or something, so you start babysitting when your parents think your mature and responsible enough. and the amount of money that you get an hour differs depending on how old the kid is that your babysitting. if she's just in kindergarten or something, about 4 or 5 $$$, but if she is older, then you'll probably get like 5 $$$ more. Nicole08 answered Wednesday June 22 2005, 9:44 pm: You start when your mature and responsible(not saying you are inmature and unresponsible im just saying) and when your parents say its ok. The money depends on how many kids there are....if say its one kid and they are say 4 years old and the parents need you for 5 hours i'd ask for like 25 to 30 whatever feels right for you.
