Hell, I am a cheerleader!! I KNOW cheeleading is a sport?? Do you see football players doing back handspings??

An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
^^that's the definition of a sport and cheerleading definitely follows all of those restrictions ((especially competitive cheer))
CHEERLEADING IS A SPORT!! no matter what they say! lol :) ]
I have to go with spacefem and MFS on this one. It's not a sport because "winning" is highly subjective. Saying that cheerleading is a sport is the same as saying that singing is a sport because you have to work out your voice. Well, singing is not so neither is cheerleading. ]
i am in cheerleading and it is a sport! ]
Cheerleading is definately a sport!!..it's is by far the best sport ever!...it takes lots of hard work and you have to practice all the time and you have to stay in shape...its definately a sport!!!!!!!! =] ]
I consider cheerleading as a sport. ]
it can be because you get exersice but other times its not that much of a workout
~natt~ ]
I`m a cheerleader & I consider it to be a sport. You have to work really hard at it & you have to have some muscle and techinique. It`s not as easy as it looks.=)

I'm not sure about "sport" - it depends on how you define what a sport it.
Cheerleading is clearly athletic, and can be competitive. So as far as that goes, cheerleading competitions are showcases of athleticism mixed with choreography, etc. There's discipline involved... etc... it is similar to gymnastics, ice skating, and other such things...
The ordeal is that it is judged. "Winning" is far more subjective than it is in head-to-head sports like baseball, football, volleyball, etc.
So, really, I havne't answered your question, but hopefully at least shown that like many things, this isn't a black-and-white issue. ]
It Depends, I think competative cheerleading is a sport most definitly. *I used to be one* But Recreational cheerleading can be different. For some its just wavin pom poms, but now its so much more.
I do think cheerleading definitly a sport! ]
duh its a sport ]
I believe that cheerleading is a sport. You might notice that people who say it isnt might not have made the team at school. It involves strenght, flexiblilty, corrdination, concentration. And if dance is considered a sport cheering has dance and more. so i think it is a sport. ]
Well, cheerleading is a sport because it involves movements that are difficult and you're physically active when you are doing it. But most people base the issue on whether they like cheerleading or not. So, it's really up to you. Although it's not my sort of thing, I do think that it's a sport. The throwing of people in the air is definitely something I consider as an athletic sport. It's on ESPN because of the competition between popular colleges or high schools , and it's also on there because it's a legitimate excuse for men to watch girls in very short skirts . Basically, it's arousing for them. So it's considered a sport. It's also traditional too. Hope I was some sort of help and have a lovely day. ]
I guess it depends upon what your definition of a sport is. Competetive cheerleading can be very physically demanding, but lots of teams just stand around and shake pompoms. As for being on ESPN...they run spelling bees and Scrabble competitions. It doesn't have to be a sport to show up on ESPN. ]
It's on ESPN because people like to watch it. I mean, why is Real World on MTV? It's not a music video.
A sport is an activity where you have an opponent who tries to keep you from scoring points, and you try to score points for your team to win, or there's some other standard measurement to see who does better (like, a stopwatch). Any activity that requires a judge to make a subjective decision about who's better is not a sport, it's an activity. Bowling is a sport. Ballroom dancing is not. Running is a sport. Debate is not. Football is a sport. Figure skating is not.
I think cheerleading is a good way to spend time, meet friends, and work out, but it's not a sport, it's a performance art. ]
Cheerleading IS a sport! I'm a cheerleader & anyone who says it isn't is WRONG. Cheering takes tons of stamina, hard work & determination. Have you seen those pyramids & stunts? Cheerleaders are usually stereotyped as girly girls who are ditzy, air headed non-atheletes who worry about what they look in their cute little uniform. Well, that's a lie because as a cheerleader, I know the kind of work & struggle that goes into the sport. ]
It is my opinion that cheeRleading *IS* indeed a spoRt. My cousin in on one of the best USA teams, and she tRavels like a fiend to competitions; just like eveRy otheR spoRt.
