Question Posted Thursday May 12 2005, 10:03 pm

urgh i hate this! it feels like my jaw is gonna fall out like in the grudge! i can't open my mouth really wide to eat because it feels like theres an extra bone there that isn't allowing me to open my mouth any further, and if i chew it feels like my jaw is like cracking.. like it kinda feels like when you crack your knuckles. anyway this really hurts so does any of you have any advice on how i can deal with this? thanks in advance i really appreciate this

An oral surgeon can remove your wisdom teeth (the only way). They put you to sleep so it isn't a big deal. They can be murder I feel for you! You may have to wait until they have come through but i'm not sure. Get an appointment and have it checked out. :)

go to your dentist and see if you are ready to get them out. that is my best advice for you. if that doesn't work, there could be something seriously wrong.

Ask your parents to take you to the dentist and research it online. don't get worked up about it. there are lots of different types of jaw/tooth problems, and only some of them are really bad. and everyone gets wisdom teeth. but you really should go to the dentist.

It sounds like you have a TMJ disfunction. TMJ stands for the temporo mandibular joint. It is the joint in our body that is used the most, so there are often disfunctions with it that cause pain. You use it when you eat, swallow, spit, etc.

I had it when I was a teenager, there's a few exercises you can do to help, but you should really see a dentist and probably a physical therapist about this.

First, stop slouching. The TMJ joint is related to your spine, when you spine is out of whack, your joint is out of whack.

Stop chewing gum/eating beef jerky/etc. Chewing gum makes way too much stress on that joint. At least for a while, you should stop chewing it.

Get a mouth guard for when you sleep. A lot of times, tmj is caused because of teeth grinding. Getting a mouth guard will help you to stop grinding your teeth as you sleep.

There's also a little exericise that I did to stop myself from grinding my teeth.
You close your front teeth together. But put your tongue on the roof of your mouth towards the back, and push up with it. This will keep your front teeth closed, but keep your back teeth from touching, and keep them from grinding.

Also, you should get a couple of heating pads and put them on your jaw joint twice a day for thirty minutes each. The heat will loosen up the joint and make it more plyable.

I learned all of these things from my physical therapist when I had TMJ. You should do these and go see your dentist. A lot of people get TMJ, and a lot don't even realize that they have it. Go to a dentist to get it fixed.

Have you gone to the dentist lately? I'm guessing you have not gone in quite a while.

I go to my dentist regularly and they've been taking regular x-rays. I knew I was going to have my wisdom teeth come in...but I didn't expect it so soon. At my last check up, I took x-rays again and my dentist told me I need surgery this summer on my lower jaw around this june or july.

You really need to go to your dentist for some x-rays, NOW. Wisdom teeth are harder to deal with the older you get and the more you let them grow out. It's best to deal with them as soon as possible.

I know you might be scared, but it's the best thing to do, since it can only get worse if you don't do anything. I'm scared as well...writing this advice to you is reminding me of my own date of surgery...If it turns out you have to have surgery on your wisdom teeth, tell me how it goes (hyperchick[at]gmail[dot]com). Good luck.

go to a dentist immediately, they can asses the situation, and do emergency surgery. the drugs they give you afterwards are out of this world.

No, but your mouth is defective. Out of 1,000,000 little spermlets going around, you got the one that gave a defective mouth!

Take baking soda and vinegar and swish it around in your mouth a bit. It'll clean out your teeth, which could be rotting at the gumline.

OHNOES!
