pneumatics i know that pneumatics means mechanical properties of air and other gases, and how it works and stuff like that. i guess i dont understand it enough to know examples of it though. what would some examples be? thanks

well one example is a paintball gun have you never heard of the company tippmann pneumatics? ]
Are you talking like about a paintball guns pneumatics, b/c I can explain that, and the diffrence in between mechanical pneumatics, and electro pneumatics... Let me know and I'll fill you in.
The guy/girl above me, Tippmans suck. Other than that, WGP has a very good example of how pneumatics can work, WDP and Smart Parts also have superb examples how the right about of air in a line, and the right timing will allow you to shoot upwards of 30 ball per second.
WGP primarily makes Autocockers, and they do just that, cock themselves after they have been fired w/ the assistance of pneumatics. The begining of the trigger pull fires the marker, the hammer under the bolt hits the valve and makes it open, the space infront of the hammer is then filled with compressed air, the hammer has a regulater at one end which feeds air to the cocking rod, forcing it back (your are now at the very end of the trigger pull.) As you let go of the trigger, the air being routed to he cocking rod is then routed to the other end of the cocking rod forcing it to be pulled forward. It's a little hard to understand w/ out me just showing you how my autococker works, like hands on stuff.
My Impulse which is made my Smart Parts is an electro pneumatic marker. So instead of having a 3-way pushing air where ever it needs to go during the operation of the trigger pull, you have an electronic sylinoid (sp) that electronically gauges where, and how much air should be distrubuted in front of, and behind the hammer to make the marker fire. If you want a really good example to show your teacher or something, use the Impulse, b/c the one I have currently has no springs what so ever to help in firing the marker, it's just all being moved around correctly.

These websites will help better explain how these markers work.
Hope I helped, if you need me to expand upon anything, just e-mail me iRideBMXugp@netscape.net ]
Look up info on Mcpherson Shocks. That should give you a good idea. ]
Air compressors, car shocks (hydraulics) etc. Google it, you'll get more ^_^

Just search it in yahoo. There are many websites for informations there. Just type examples of pneumatics in the search tool bar and look for the closest related information site. ]
mfs pretty much covered examples for you i only have a couple more to add. Air compresser tools, and it is used in the tanks divers use. :) ]
shocks in cars, jack hammers, those cylinders that allow fork-lifts to pick stuff up, some jacks use to lift up cars are pneumatic, a Carver press is pneumatic ( [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) ) Some braking systems on vehicles are pneumatic. ]
