What you could do is read breafly about some religions and pick the one that you believe you can follow the best. I have a somewhat similar situation:
I am a Lutheren but i have so many questions about how God handels things or why he does this or why he does that . . . . Religion is very somplicated.

P.S. If you work hard enough you could create your own religion and share it with only yourself or the rest of the world.

sincerely,
Bailey C. Lee

Where to start....

Your question is really a couple questions. To begin with you need not find a purpose in life specifically through religion or even spirituality. For all you or I know simply becoming a writer, working with children, or any other seeming mundane dream might be enough to keep you interested in life and getting up in the morning for the next 70 years. It certainly doesn't hurt to explore what's out there, I'm just saying that in the end all you need do to find purpose is follow your life dreams, some of which you may know already.

As for finding out about various religions, I highly recommend the "Dummies" books, except for "Spirituality for Dummies" which I personally found to be a dissapointment. I also recommend the "Idiots Guide to" books which are also very excellent. Additionally, see what religions your friends are and ask them to teach you about it. Visit religious services with them. If you have a handful of friends, you've got a pretty good shot at getting Christianity, Judaism, and maybe even Islam covered right there.

Finally, keep in mind that this is a long term proccess to which you may not find answers immediately. Chances are you will still be searching at least in college which gives you a great opportunity to try various cultural / religious clubs and take a variety of classes on the subject. Most of all, try to have fun while doing it. This search can seem a chore at times, but you must have faith in yourself and find joy wherever you can.

I've written a book on this topic: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) - If you want a free copy, email me from my Advicenator page or something.

To find out about different religions you could go to your local libary and either reaearch or take out a book on the different religions and obviously they have lots of books that could help you, you could talk to your R.E teacher and she/he might tell and explain to you about all the different religiouns in the world which is alot. You could go websites that tell you about religions to. Hope this helps.

Some places have a Theosophical society that keeps books on all different types of religion, you can look and see if there is one around you, if not, go to a library and look at their religious section, I'm sure it's pretty big. Or you can go to local churches, temples, mosques, whatever is near you and ask for information on their religion and maybe attend a service if you are allowed to, just to see what it's like. But in any case, follow your heart, whatever you choose and if you find out there isn't a religion for you, don't get downhearted. Live your life NOW and don't always worry about the future.

Let me put it this way: Christianity is worldly taught, persecuted by those who live to have power over people, and a religion that accepts all and has a forgiving God. need i say more? if so, send me a question personally.

There is no quick, easy way to thoroughly find out about every religion or even just a few. Finding your purpose is a long, contemplative process that never really stops once you start. Does one religion or school of thought appeal to you? Start with one that interests you and read several books on it by several authors.

Good luck!

simply going to church wont cut it. maybe talking to some people who have been converted to the religion could help you. they can tell you how they got into it. if you talk to a layperson/priest/rabbi/w.e, they will say anything to get u to believe. i cant give you a specific website. i honestly would recommend going to witness the faith in action cuz some of the religious websites are cheesy. <3

Why not go to a church on sundays and then you'll be able to learn everything you need to no. Because the talk about jesus, why not try ordering or buying a bible, And you can just skim through it so you get the gist of god and way catholics do stuff.

Have you thought about visiting a few local churches in your area? You most likely will want one close to home anyway. Best wishes on your search.

Go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) for basic descriptions of all kinds of religions, from Judaism to Shinto. You could also look in your local library or bookstore for books on the subject.
Remember that when you decide to join a certain religion that you can't just *snap* into it. You have to learn about it and grow into it and get used to their Gods and celebrations etc. I'd recommend not doing anything about becoming a part of whichever religion you choose for at least six months after you first hear about it to make sure that you are really serious about it and it's not just some kind of 'phase'/that you don't find something that suits you better.
Good luck!!
Blessed Be,

Well to be honest... I really don't know. Except I heard from a friend about a book, sold in any ol' book store about just... lists and lists of religions, and a brief descriptions of each of them. I'm sure they're in your local library or something. Just... you know, a book store would probably have more of the recent ones in it as well. Hope I helped!

The best thing for you to do would be to do research on the internet or at your local library on different religions. You can go to any search engine and type in religion, and a slew of sites will come up.
