Stefiny answered Wednesday April 6 2005, 7:09 pm: usually between and year and a year and a half it will start to come regular. You just have to deal with it being unexpected for a while. there's not really anything you can do about it. You could go on birth control to make your cycle regular but you should wait at least a year until your body has time to do its own thing. There's not really much you can do about it! sorry -stefiny [ Stefiny's advice column | Ask Stefiny A Question ]
GeezLouise answered Wednesday April 6 2005, 6:09 am: WHAT CAUSES PERIODS TO CHANGE OR STOP?
period changes are usually a symptom of a physical or hormonal imbalance.
Changes in the amount of hormones released by the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands, or hypothalmus may cause the ovary to delay or skip ovulation.
Without ovulation a period will not happen. However the same changes in hormones may trigger bleeding at abnormal times (in the middle of a cycle or several weeks late) or in abnormal amounts (very light or very heavy).
One of the most common reasons women fail to ovulate is body weight.
Low body weight may cause an absence of periods.
Excessive body weight tends to cause abnormal bleeding.
Sudden changes in exercise levels or in body weight may cause temporary changes in bleeding patterns.
Emotional stress and illness also cause menstrual irregularities.
Prescribed medications may also effect menstrual patterns by changing the interaction of the body’s natural hormones.
Sometimes the thyroid, pituitary or adrenal gland may screw up and produce too little or too much hormone.
Abnormal bleeding can also be caused by physical changes in the uterus or ovaries, such as abnormal development of tissue in the uterine lining or muscle, or ovarian cysts. Pregnancy or infection may also cause spotting or bleeding to occur
EJ47 answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 10:12 pm: You may have a pregnancy (if you had sex that is, but you didnt say so) so all I can say is, if you're near puberty age, then your period will be irregular for some time, until maybe at least 16 or 17..

craazylau answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 6:13 pm: It's not a problem this is perfectly normal and it happens to everyone! Basically it'll take about 2 years after starting your period for your cycle to become regular, possibly up to three years which is a bit of a drag! So dont worry it sucks but it'll be fine in the end! [ craazylau's advice column | Ask craazylau A Question ]
Karen answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 5:54 pm: Usually, it takes a few years for your period to become regular once you get your first period. Every girl is different so it just depends on you. Your cycle should become regular in the next year to three years. [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
