I just started cheerleading this year and it was really hard for me to do anything, like tumbling or stunting, because I have like no upper body strength. This is mostly because of my wrists, they're weak and crack a lot. I did gymnastics about a year ago but it made my wrists worse. What I want to know is, is there anyway for me to build up some arm strength so I can start doing gymnastics again?
Additional info, added Tuesday March 15 2005, 5:04 pm: Oh yeah, I went to the doctors last month (I really don't like her) and she said to take 2 motrin 3 times a day and put a heating pad on it. The thing is, she didn't even look at them. I've been doing what she told me but it hasn't been working all that well. I have a couple wrist braces, but the only one that works I only have for my right hand and I can't right with it on. Is there anything I can do to make them stronger or should I just not bother?. BLONDE911 answered Tuesday March 15 2005, 10:30 pm: to get arm strength just do some pushups, chinups, and lift weights, have a routin like do this for 2 hours for 3 times a week.
For your wrists, When you tumble, use a wrist brace<< this is what i do when i tumble and i just got off of them and my wrists are great! Maybe try iceing them down afterwards to build up strength. If you need more info try asking your school coach, because they give me the best advice. Hope you do good! xoxo BLONDE911 [ BLONDE911's advice column | Ask BLONDE911 A Question ]
Tweetiebird1012 answered Tuesday March 15 2005, 5:44 pm: I used to be the same way. See I have been in cheerleading for 5 years now, so these things may help you:
1) Tape your wrists or wear an ace bandage.
2) Do push ups
3) Practice lifting the person your basing or lift waits
