you have to weigh the pros and the cons. they want to make money off you, just like you want them to spend money to make you a star. you'll have to reach a compromise on many things, and if you really don't think it's worth it, get yourself dropped. but think about it this way, isn't being signed and doing a few things you don't wanna do better than getting a boring-ass real job? do what they say for a little while, they're the experts, and if you start to make money, start saving it up. later on you'll have more freedom when it matters. ]
quit. dont become the next britney. obviously, if you already got one record deal, theres a possibility you can get another one that dont make you do shit like that. and if you REALLY dont wanna quit, keep arguing. ]
ok, heres the thing. If they really want you then you halft to tell them that you want to do things your way. You cant do stuff that they want to . I support you in this. Tell them and Im sure they will listen. ]
Make sure you have a good agent. He can lobby on your behalf and has more weight than you. Also, be sure to be understanding of the label's needs while firmly but politely asserting yours. Try giving them examples of what you want, like a homemade demo to show a song idea, so they can see where you are coming from. Dont forget to remind them that your fans will hate you if you sell out.
Also, can score some backstage passes? ;p ]
I won't pretend I know more about record deals than you do, but I will say this -- maybe the record deal just isn't the right one for you. If you have the talent, someone else will come around, someone who doesn't want to pressure you into being a star that doesn't ressemble your real life personality at all. but if you're really afraid of losing this one and never having one come around again -- I suggest you agree to the smallest number of things possible, and work your way up into stardom, independence, and eventually authority. ]
You just do. Go up to them and tell them, "Listen, this isn't exactly my style. Can we try something I want to do?" Or something like that. But don't raise your voice and don't use profanity ]
Try and meet somewhere in the middle with them, try and compromise. ]
Do you have an agent? I don't know a whole lot about this but I think an agent would negotiate things for you. Or, an entertainment lawyer. You have to be careful that you aren't taken advantage of, okay? Good luck with your career. ]
Don't let them minipulate you they can really screw up your reputation. Give some of your ideas and let them know what you do and do not feel comfortable with doing in this business
Good Luck! ]
You still need to be involved in some savvy give and take. You give in to some of their thoughts, and they give you some of your desires. Instead of saying no, turn it into a more positive "what if we did it this way." Things get a little easier after the first record because you become more savvy. ]
Congratulations! That is awesome! The one thing that you will learn very quickly is that everybody has a boss. Even people who work for themselves have to please the public. Go easy. You may have gotten a record deal, but right now, you're still on the bottom rung of the ladder. If this is something that is really important to you, you will do what it takes to get to the next step, and the next. I would offer suggestions as to how you would like to do things, sandwiched amongst a lot of positive feedback about the original idea. Don't throw out the ideas of what your bosses want from you and for goodness sake don't douse it with negativity. Be accommodating but show that you have ideas too without being pushy. I hope I hear you on the radio soon! Good luck!

You better check the contract, there may be nothing you can do. ]
you dont! ]
congrats, but if you stick with it, it will be hard. if theyre small things, just get used to them, but if theyre things you really dont want to do, just tell them honestly, hopefully theyll keep you if you have enough talent. ]
Just say "I appreiciate you doing this for me, and the ideas are great. But I dont feel comfortable doing them, can we maybe think of something else to do that we both agree on?" Say it nicley and I'm sure they'll be nice back ]
