This question is for dancers! Hey, does anyone know a good way to make your leg go higher in an arabesque and such? And also, how to get your split better? Thanks so much!

Leg higher- you can stretch it more like on the bars they use for ballet thats what i used to do and so did my sister, because it makes your muscles more used to the affect it has and just do it alot more often than you do and it may hurt but it goes away its just stretching it.
Splits- like the above that will help your splits too, but also bend one leg on the side and then stretch out the other forward and lean foward that also will help your legs go higher... ]
I do! ok, to get a higher arabesque you need to stretch your legs and become more flexible, fortunately i never had to do this because i was born flexible but whatever thats meaningless. to get better at splits (which will obviously make you more flexible) sit in them as far as you can go for 5 minutes everynight, do it like while you're watching tv. You'll have them in about a month. If you already have them and just want them better lean over and backwards in them. hope that helps. chelsea. ]
I just read all the other answers you've gotten, and all those stretched sounds great. That will definately improve your flexibility, and your splits. But holding you leg up in an arabesque does not take just flexibility. Some of the most flexibile people can not hold a high arabesque. It takes strength, as well, to be able to hold your leg up like that. You need strong lower back muscles, and good abs would help too. So, along with all the stretches, do some exercises to help strengthen your muscles, as well, especially your back. Hope that helped! ]
well to get a better arabesk you have to put your hip down and you have to not lean twards your leg. Also to get a better split you have to stretch out every moring to wake u up and to stretch you out to get a better split.

there are stretches you can do up against the wall. try laying on your back with your butt against the wall, and kind of spread your legs out on the wall, like you would on the floor to stretch out. push them down as far as you can, and just lay there- read, watch tv, whatever you want. it really stretches your inner thighs out, and will help with your splits. each time you do it, push your legs down farther. ]
The best way is just to stretch as much as you can every day! Make a shecudale for yourself, such as every day when you wake up, get home from school, and before you go to bed stretch your leg in any excercises you know! Splits take practice and lots of it so try going as far down as you can each day a little more. ♥ plz rate and view the column! Im new =) ]

Just stretch a lot, stretch your legs out about 3 times a day everyday (dont hurt yourself) and everytime you'll arabesque, split, etc. will be a lot better! Good luck! ]
The best way to strech to get your leg higher and work on your kick may sound a little strange but it works. What you do is put your back aganist the wall and have your legs come out in a sitting fashion. If you want you can kick in that position is sometimes helps, but its not nessicary. Make sure your tighes (sp?) are parrell to the floor. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck ]
Well i used to dance. I did point ballet for five years. But i quit a year ago. and when i quit i lost some of my flexibility. So now i am doing winsor pilates, and its really helped. In order to help your split, you should do butterflies (if you know what they are). And also when your watching t.v. or doing something else, sit in a straddle, and hold it for 5 min. then move farther down, until your head touches the floor. My favorite strech is when i lay on my back, and just open my legs like a straddle, then see how long i can hold it. I hope these help. If not ask your dance teacher. xoxo ash ]
