Okay, this may sound weird, but here it goes. I've never had a canker sore before, but recently, one grew inside my lower lip. I have always heard my friends complaining about this but they never said much about it. How do you get them and how can you make them go away/prevent them?
ThReEdAySgRaCe_GuRl answered Sunday October 24 2004, 1:00 pm: Sometimes its caused by bacteria in the mouth inside the gums, they go away eventually and just always brush and floss, thats all. If its really bothering you, you can always take orajel. Ask your mom first of course! I hope it feels better! [ ThReEdAySgRaCe_GuRl's advice column | Ask ThReEdAySgRaCe_GuRl A Question ]

AdvicealaCarte answered Thursday October 21 2004, 12:26 pm: Canker sores are actually very common... Many people get them...however the cause is not really known. However, some experts think that they may be hereditary.
There are oral medications on the market, usually kept in the same areas as toothpaste in the store, they do offer dome relief of the pain. I would reccomend rinsing your mouth at least 4 times a day with warm salt water. It will help speed up the healing process. [ AdvicealaCarte's advice column | Ask AdvicealaCarte A Question ]

MFS answered Thursday October 21 2004, 11:07 am: It is caused by a virus. Stress can make them become more prevalent. Any slight cut to the tissue inside your mouth can become one. For ones that get really bad, the use of something like Orabase while you sleep will help out. Mouthrinses and use of tooth whiteners can help cure them (they will attack the infection at the center of the sore). DO NOT BITE THEM - this will only make things worse.<br>

I have never had one on the outside of my mouth, so I can't offer much help there, but the interior ones I am well familiar with. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]

I kno that theres stuff you can by at stores to put on them, but it never really worked for me it ujst hurt REALY REALLY badly. I dont think you can really prevent them, but just keep doing whatever it is that your doing, cuz if this is your first time getting one then you're doing pretty good.
