I have been a vegetarian for about 3 years and I'm healthy as anyone who eats meat. I would suggest you eat a lot of soy products/ tofu products because that will help give you the proteins you need! Good luck!!

Good for you! It's good to see someone taking a stand for all the lil' critters out there :) If you are a healthy vegetarian, then you will be fine. Eat lots of eggs to make up for your lost protein, and continue to eat plentiful amounts of dairy (3 servings a day-- don't wanna be sick!) Also, another GREAT veggie product is Morning Stars Veggie Grillers. They are Vegetable Hamburgers, and they taste great in the oven or grilled. I love to eat Morning Stars Boneless Buffalo Wings. They taste spicy, and just like the real thing! (They are made up of vegetables) Hope I helped! Good luck sweety!

you'll be fine if you don't eat meats, you just need to make sure you get your protiens and iron! I've been a vegetarian since I was in grade 5 and i'm in grade 11 now, and i'm perfectly healthy! Just eat a lot of things like beans, spinach, leafy greens, soy, etc. Don't be one of those vegetarians who eats only junk and ends up unhealthy. Things like protien bars, veggie burgers, fake chicken cutlets, stuff like that is great!

That's how I went about it. The only things I wouldn't eat were red meat, such as steak and hamburger. Stuff like that. It worked for a while but then I gave in to my Papa's bacon. :-( LoL. Well, good Luck with it!!

If you cut out meat, you need to find a way to completely fill in your protein intake. Look for high protein foods, because meat is how you get protein and you need it.

Take it from a cook, there's no way to avoid meat and be completely healthy. If you're becoming a vegetarian for health reasons I suggest rethinking this and just watching your red meat/meat intake. If you're becoming a vegetarian because the idea of a cow getting diced up and served on dinner plate doesn't appeal to you, then just avoid food that's prepared in that way. I never really understood the whole vegetarian thing cause I mean, if the cow killed me, I'd expect it to eat me.

MoonFisher answered Friday October 1 2004, 12:48 am:
Soy, soy, soy. You need to eat soy products, nuts, and beans to get your protein. I know that soy sounds nasty, but it can be very good if you cook it right or buy the right products. I recommend 8th continent vanilla soy milk for lots of flavor, protein, and no saturated fat. Silk brand chocolate is great, too! I pour the vanilla over my cereal. You can buy a lot of soy fake-meat products, but I think emulating meat defeats the purpose of not eating meat for moral reasons, if that's why you're doing it. Instead of eating dead things, we'll just pretend to...what? There are a lot of good beans and legumes you can make into soups. Try going to google.com and typing in Vegetarian recipes and see if you can find any good stuff. Protein is important, but remember, only 10% of your diet needs to be from protein, so don't overdo it!

selectopaque answered Thursday September 30 2004, 10:22 pm:
It's not just protein that you need to worry about when becoming a vegetarian. Especially at a young age you need to supplement your diet with vitamins. There is a certain vitamin that you can only get through meat. I believe that is vitamin B12. If you don't get that in your body, you can run into serious problems.
I don't know how old you are, but the younger you are, the more at risk you will be because you won't have the same amount of B12 stored inside your body.

im not a vegatarian but i know a few. a good way to start is to do it gradualy. first, cut out all ground beef and steak then pork, then chicken, (and maybe fish depending on the type of diet). another good alternitive for meant is tofu and soy. although it may sound gross, with the right seasoning and sauses, tofu can be VERY tasty. try going to get ti food. hope i could help!!
