Homecoming Dance-To Go or Not To Go...

Question Posted Saturday September 18 2004, 1:58 pm

Hello all,I'm new to this site and I need advice so I'm hoping you guys on here can be helpful. Here is my story..

Me and this girl (I'll call her Mallory) have been talking for about a month now. She asked me to go with her to her homecoming dance next weekend (we attend different schools). Well,I told her yeah until I found out who was gonna be there. This guy I have alot of beef with will be there, and I know all he's gonna do is start mess and try to get me to fight him. I'm not gonna fight him at the Homecoming dance because I don't wanna get arrested plus that'll just make both of us look low life. Besides that, she goes to a private school which means alot of preppy people will be there. All in all,I really don't want to go,but I already told her yes. What should I do?

think of excuses

or just tell her the truth or...

why don't you picture it like your own dance! dress up however you feel for the dance and pretend the girl/guy of your dreams will be there. act like everything is going your way. you will have the time of your life if you think satasfyingly!

hope it helps!

ask her if she knows the guy you're talking about and explain that you 2 don't get along 2 well...but that shouldn't make you not want to go ~ just avoid him, and if he comes to u then be like : look, all i'm trying to do is enjoy a dance with my date...

You shoudl go, as a girl i can tell you exactly how she would feel: TERRIBLE! YOu could give her 10 reasons, but she would always think you just didnt like her or somthing like that. As for the guy, just ignore him, dont do any thing stupid and always think before you act. Be your self and you will have nothing to worry about with the preppy people.
hope i helped

You do have a commitment to her dude...but also you have your own skin to save and it seems like to ask this questions means you arnt to confident you will when the fight so what i would do is tell her the truth, say you dont wanna ruin her night but offer to do something else that night tho like go out to a dinner then a movie or have a picnic dinner or a long walk...i dunno what you would do but u do have that commitment with her

You're going, mang. Hands down. Now if this guy doesn't have the sense to step off you have the opportunity to show to this girl that you are the bigger man. If he comes fists a flying don't even lift a finger. Believe me, people will notice this going on and form a circle. Someone will break through and stop it; they always do. And since it's a private school the guy should get one hell of a punishment.

There's no need to back down from going because of one guy.

Well make up a lie or something. Tell her your parents said no because you have something else to attend to that night.

If you don't want to lie to her then just tell her that you don't want to go because there is going to be a boy there you don't like and yadie yadie yadie. She should understand.

Good luck.

xxxxxx answered Saturday September 18 2004, 2:17 pm:
it's stereotypical to not want to go because there's lots of preps there. i go to a private school. it doesn't make anyone preppy or not preppy. second, don't go if there's gonna be a guy who you have problems with. i would just avoid the situation. but since you already told mallory that you'd go, you pretty much have to go, or you'd be an ass. i'd say go. she deserves better than to be stood up.
