I think I might be depressed..

Question Posted Saturday August 28 2004, 5:44 am

Well im 16 and lately I have been feeling really lethargic and sad. I have cried pretty much every single day or I have been in a bad mood and didnt want to do anything. I can never fall asleep at night and when I wake up in the morning I am still tired and want to go back to bed. I took some tests online and one of them said that "The likelihood that you have major or clinical depression is high." and I took a few more and they pretty much said it was high. But I cant tell my mom or step dad about it because they will tell me im fine like they always do. They will say im just overreacting and its not a big deal. But I have been feeling like this for the past year or so, not constantly but it just gets bad sometimes. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do?

ok sweety heres the deal.. im 17 and everything that u are going through I went through at 13! Its not fun I know and it really sucks,, But i was young and didnt know what to do.. My mom always said i was ok big deal.. Bc now i know I wasnt..sweety u need to get help..Here by me each county has a mental health orginization.. Find something Like that..Go in there and talk to a receptionist or something or look in your phonebook for a tenn help line or something along those lines.. Tell them what u said in your question.. tell them ur afraid if u tell your parents they will tellu no your fine..they can help you..but doll you need help..Not in a bad way..i went through it and was on meds for 3 yrs and in therapy 3 times a week..it helps and there is nothing wrong with it. and it doesnt just get better.. Do something for yourself before it gets worse and you lose total control...and if u do tell ur parents n they say you are overreacting.. speak up and tell them ok maybe u may be..prove you wrong..speak up!! tell them how u feel and what u need...only u can help yourself to get what you need when it comes to these things..Hope I helped..let me know how things go!

writing helps me when i feel like that. and talking about it. if you ever want to talk to someone(and its easier talking to someone you dont really know...like someone who isnt involved in why you feel this way) you can always leave something in my inbox and i'll be happy to talk and/or just listen. hope i helped. and feel free to leave something in my inbox.

I think you should take a trip to your doctor. They'll tell you what's really wrong, and let you know what you can do to treat your problem. Hope I helped!

If your parents won't take you seriously, talk to a school counselor/psychologist/nurse and maybe s/he can convince your parents to get you some help.

If you have any other questions about depression, I (unfortunately) have a lot of personal expertise.

I think the tests are right and you do have clinical depression. If it's been going on for a year, then it's time you get some help.

Your parents should listen to you. I had the same problem with mine.

Talk to friends. If there's a school counselor at school and you feel comfortable talking to them, then do.

Get a journal. You can keep one online, on paper, on tape, or just as a file in your computer.

dearie the current moods that uve been feeling musta suck, it might be hormone-puberty related. taking online tests may be fun, but the results are something not accurate, therefore u must not be silly to take the results to heart! maybe u can approach a good friend whom u trust and pour out all ur emotions and feelings to her. or maybe u can keep an online journal and type it all down... get all this off ur chest, the load on you might be causing the bad moods and teary days. i hoped i helped, one way or another. ps. much appreciated if u could rate me. good luck and thanx a bunch! -Rei

Talk to your parents...I mean I know you said you don't want to because they won't believe you, but if you tell them to bring you to a doctor I'm sure they will if they see how much you want to go...
Tell them you feel uneasy about all your emotions right now and that you just want to finalize your assumptions that you may have depression...

It's the only way to know for sure...my computer at home has a virus but if you feel like you need to talk to somebody more, email me...and I can help a lot more I just have to get going now...
If you email me it may take me a while to answer only because of the virus but don't be afraid to...

Good Luck...please talk to you parents...if it's been going on like this for a year then I would seek some help...
I felt like that for the past two years on and off...like REALLY BADLY...it still goes on sometimes but not so often anymore...*knocks on wood*

Good Luck
*hug*

Well depression is a serious thing, when i had it I was scared to tell my parents as well... I didnt want them to think less of me and what not. But you have to do it, they are the only ones that can get you on medication. The only advice i can give you is tell your parents, depression can lead to other things... not saying you are like that but still it drives us to do stupid and crazy things. Good luck and best wishes.

something must have caused this depression... and what you should do is find the source of it and try to get through it.You might not even relieze that its still affecting you. You could also be really stressed out thats causing you to be depressed. You should tell your parents one more time and if they stil dont listen to you go to the school nurse and tell her how you've been feeling. If you are in depression then it needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. Just dont let things stress you out as much.Good Luck and i hope you work everything out!

Simple: You need to talk to your doctor and ask them to set you up with some form of therepy. As far as I know, if you don't want to tell your parents then you don't have to.
But just remember, all the net can really give is a list of symptoms, it is no substitute for a proffesional's opinion.
But Like I said, if you really are worried, then go to your doctor.
*hug* hope you feel better soon

Hey..if your sure your parents are just going to brush you off their shoulder like that, I would talk to a school counselor. This is your first steo to getting out of depression. If your parents continue to not take you seriously, things will only get worse unless you address the situation to a conselor. Maybe then your parents will take you more seriously and support you through your depression.
Best of luck..if you would like to talk or ask another question ..feel free to drop me one :)
