Normally people would tell them straight. But in your case, you seem very shy. So you can tell a friend to tell him. and You know when he likes you back when hes starts to send signals right back at you! so You have two options,
Go do it yourself
Or ask a friend
But if you only want to know

You will never know if he likes you until you tell him. Just come out straight forward to him and tell him how you feel, if he doesn't feel the same it's not the end of the world =)

If he flirts with you, hanging around you alot, always by you, etc. Then there may be a chance he likes you. But, you can always just tell him by saying something like "I've started to like you and I just want to know how you feel about me" Say something like that. Something simple and right to the point. Ok here the plan .... Ok first get up the nerve to tell him....then confront him when he's NOT around his friends (guys tend to git cocky around their friends) and DONT just bust out with hey i like You... let him know your into things he is and that You'd think it would be great if yall could hang out sometime...and im sure u can take things from there.............ps...if things dont work out w/ it, he'll at least accept the fact that your open and can express your feeling on an openly level and he'll respect you for that!

If you guys are friends and he enjoys your company, or if u catch him looking at you, etc. those are good signs that he likes you.
Ways of telling him can be on the phone..you can ask him "can you ever picture us togethher?'..you can ask him online, in person, write him a letter, get a friend to find out, jus straight out ask if he likes you, or you can be a secret admireror..the possibilities are endless! you can make him a card, shout it out on the radio, or jus ask him out!
