Question Posted Friday June 18 2004, 10:46 pm

this may seem shallow but, why are all the young teenagers(generally below 15) OBSESSED with the fag rock bands, like GC, and simple plan, and that crap?

First off, i know how you feel about those bands, but could you not use the term "fag", it kinda pushes my buttons. Second of all, yeah those bands suck, what are u gonna do about it, hate them all you want, but people are still gonaa like'em *lol* young teenagers, are still novices when it comes to the music scene, they are still exploring. For example, when i was 13 i LOVED limp bizkit, i deny it now, but thats the truth, and older teenagers still have a lot to learn to. i'm only fifteen, and i asume that ur a teengaer as well, most of the bands we listen to nowadays are gonna be gone in the next 3 to 5 years, and if theres a nuclear war the only things that will survive will be the roaches, good charlotte, and simple plan....a little scary to think about, huh?

Fish answered Saturday July 3 2004, 11:29 pm:
probably because they have nothing else to do. People lacking something to do seem to turn to people in the media for direction. It's weird like that. Why else do you see people trying to be Britney Spears at age 11? I kind of think that they're just bored. Or they see something "rebelious" in those bands that makes them feel somewhat liberated. I did, but then again I used them as a stepping stone. Most people don't do that. See, if you read the thank you's in there from those bands to other bands and you check out those other bands, you open up to a whole different world of MUCH BETTER MUSIC. You'll end up putting your GC album on the shelf and you'll quit trying to be "punk" and start being you. So it's nice to find really good music, but there aren't "fag" bands, just bands who might not be as good as others. At least they try...

Well, they aren't really my favorite bands, but they're pretty cool, I guess. I like Linkin Park, Cradle of Filth, AFI, Story of the Year, and more metal and rock....but Simple Plan and Good Charlotte aren't the greatest bands in music, but they're certainly not "crap" or "fags". Okay, well...that'll be all......

you're one of those annoying labelers, aren't you?

I'm almost fifteen, and, although I like those bands, I've never been obsessed with them. I don't obsess over any bands. Half the time I don't know or care what's on the radio, so long as I like it.

And just so you know, it's not nice to call bands "fags."

they aren't. talk to some new people, ones that you would consider 'not to fit in with you' and you'll find they might like things from bluegrass to choral music

Because TV tells them too. It's bizarre but it's actually just that simple. Many younger teens today havn't been exposed to actually decent music. So if Simple Plan is the best they've ever experienced- then their going to idolize it.
Carry around a mix CD with some Incubus, Maynard and Gypsy Kings on it- and the next time you see a little agsty teen reching for some Good Charlotte, hand it to them and say, "You'll thank me later."

advice~gurl answered Saturday June 19 2004, 2:21 am:
Well personaly I LOVE SP and GC put im not so obsessed that i do everything to be like them.
I agree that people mainly teens get way obsessed over trends and abands. i personaly don't care if they are "punk" Rock or pop i like their music.
I have this thing about idolizing rock stars, and or movie stars because they are just the same as you and I and they have the weird habbits that we all have. I have a friend that looks up to hilary duff as if she is a god and I don't understand it. if she wasn't in hollywood and a star people would even know her name except for friends.

The reason i like Sp GC is there music. I just like the lyrics. that maybe the reason you don't like them but thats what made me like them is "perfect" (SP) that fit right into my life when I first heard it and "anthem" the same. I don't wanna be just like you. the lyrics are good and I don't care if they write them or not.
I practicly like all music. classical to rap. Yes it may be a fad but most of the music I like I hate until its out and I love it. I love the 80's its good stuff.
I also love the music now. I like clay, avril, SP. GC, Yellowcard,Cindy Lopper, Sugarcult, Hoobastank, JoJO, Usher, Enya, many moore, Mozart, Britany, Christina, Celine Deon all of it but I don't try to be like them. I will ammit that I have tryed Avril's style but I ended up with some thing that hasn't been in magazines yet, its my own style.

It may be a fad but the music speaks to us "young" teenagers. the lyrics fit into our lives and we tend love them. And yes i understand what your saying about being too OBSESSED. it kinda makes me sick when I see teens freak out and try to be just like that fad.
but don't take this the wrong way but hey let them they are going to grow out of it evenuraly. let them try to be part of the mindless fad and be happy with what you like.
sincerely

storageanddisposal answered Friday June 18 2004, 11:42 pm:
It's just their taste. I absolutely hate bands that consider themselves punk, but have no angst nor are they political in any way. Punk is supposed to be about rebellion, what's so rebellious about singing about relationships, and life styles of the rich and famous? Even though most punk bands are a walking contradiction. "Fight corporations, down with the government, but buy our much publicized cd. Be original and never conform, never follow structured systems, anarchy, but if you don't follow the very structured rules of sounding punk (Power chords, etc.) then your not, even if you deliver a powerful political message and consider yourself punk." To me, the best punk artist was Dennis Lyxzen, the one who broke the structure of power chords and typical punk routines. I wouldn't call them fag rock bands, Mindless Self Indulgence is a little homoerotic and I think they're all right. It's probably just the fad right now. Fads fade, they'll hate them in a year and love something else. Personally, I like most types of music; but rap, country, and pop punk are a few of the exceptions.

If your curious as to what I listen to: Ephel Duath, Refused, T(I)NC, The Dead Kennedys, Mike Patton, Blindside, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth, Liszt, Metallica (80's), Rachmaninoff, The Cranberries (At least the first three), The Beatles, BTBAM, Simon and Garfunkel, Porcupine Tree, Lamb of God, Black Sabbath, The Berzerker, Norma Jean, etc. I think that covers all my favorite genres.

Despite my name, I am not a huge fan of Good Charlotte anymore, but I am tired of people lumping GC and Simple Plan into the same category. I have the CD's No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls by Simple Plan and The Young and the Hopeless by Good Charlotte. GC came first, and if you compare the 2 CD's, SP just completely copied GC. But I agree with you, some people are just a little too obsessed.

I happen to like Simple Plan , but I guess it has become their favorite band because, they can relate to their lyrics . Some people above 15 like simple plan as well . Oh, have a nice day .

Oh, I am really sorry if I sounded "pissed" but I was merely stating a fact . Sorry if it seemed as if I was attacking the subject . By .

Its abviously how they are marketed ya know! When you see them on all the magazines and on Trl and just MTV in general, to them that means that they are SO COOL! Like im 17 and just adore people like Hilary duff and Britney Spears! I guess i fell into the marketing trap! I think its pretty much just you like it or ya dont! Most people come to there sences when they are older and learn to choose who they like for themselves not what the tv or magazines say~!
