What causes a subcutaneous infection?

What is the cause of a subcutaneous (under the skin) infection? I had one on my toe that drove me half mad with pain for a week and I didn't even know what was wrong, since there was no open sore or anything. Finally I lanced the spot that hurt the most and presto -- no more pain. I want to know how it happened in the first place so I can hopefully never have it happen again. It doesn't make any sense that an infection would develop under the skin.

I am tired of looking at my plain white painted windowsill in my dorm. What's a plant that looks pretty but will not die if (more like when) I forget to water it, or leave it shut up in my cold room for a month while I am at home for break?

There's a guy at my college whom I know and like really well. We have a lot in common (read the same kind of books, etc) and can have long conversations. Problem, though: he deals in chemicals of the illicit kind. And not just on the side -- he does it for a living. I don't have any moral problems with drugs, though I don't use them myself and none of my friends do -- not even the drug dealer, he just sells them. It's just that I'm afraid I will have a taint by association problem. In fact, I sort of already have -- the campus housing people searched my room for drugs once, simply because he had been in it. (They found nothing of course, since I use nothing. He thought it was very amusing, but I was annoyed.) Is it worth it to stay friends ...

Okay this may seem strange but my friend is going out with my ex boyfriend and i'm really mad. Jordan (( my ex )) and I broke up in August and I really don't think that i still like him, that is untill my best friend decided to date him. I could've told her that it bothered me but I didn't! I think I like Jordan again but i don't know...I just don't want my friend to date him or any of my friends...what's going on and what should I do about this? Please Help! ok sorry this is sort of long but ill rate all 5's. alright well whenever im trying to state my opinion or get my point across to someone i end up in tears. im not an emotional person at all. but its just i just start crying when im trying to get my point across like to my parents and stuff. and its not good because they dont take me seriously!!! like whenever im arguing with them i start to cry. how can i learn not to do this and to just you know, be cool about it and everything and not freak? please help me. thanks!!!!

Photoshop vs. Paint Shop Pro.

In paint shop pro, there's a way to see what size your crop is (so that you can crop the height and length of an image evenly) .. is there a place on photoshop that you can see that?
Also, paint shop pro had 'brushes' that were like stamps and you could get custom brushes from other people to use on paint shop pro but I can't find anything like that on photoshop. Can you use brushes on photoshop? What do you click on to get to them? How do you put them onto photoshop?
One more thing - is there a place you can go to 'sharpen' and 'soften' instead of using the tool manually?

I have no idea what to do. There is this guy named Nick that I am totally crazy for. And me and him have gotten so close. He comes over now and then and hangs out. He HATES talking on the phone but with only me, he is on it for about 5 hours a day. He flirts with my hardcore and everyone thinks he likes me but I just can`t tell. He tells me a lot of stuff I am surprised he trusts me with and everytime we talk about me liking him, (yes he knows), he changes the subject. But when we are together...he acts like he likes me too. i'm thinking of buying the sims 2 university and i'm just wondering if you actually get to walk round the uni and go the class with your sims and can you build a university with class rooms ect, or if you just get to see the dorms.

I was listening to stand-up comedy on the radio and there was this comedian whose name I didn't catch who was hilarious. A segment of his act had to do with aspirin and he said something like: "Aspirin can fix everything .. But aspirin can't bring a hooker back to life." Does anyone know the name of this comedian? I've looked all over the internet but I can't find him anywhere.

I wonder whether any music folks out there can help me? I'm working on my audition piece "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from the Phantom of the Opera. On the sheet music, the phrase "too many..." (in the line "too many years fighting back tears why can't the past just die?" if you have the sheet music) the syllables are three quarter notes. Above the quarter notes is a bracket with "3" written on it. What does this mean?
