metawidget answered Thursday October 23 2003, 10:36 am: Whatever you do, don't get the "healthy" olean-based chips: olean is basically mineral oil, and it'll go right through you, loosining up everything in your digesitve tract, and... eww.
I'd have to say the apple proponents are right. Granny Smith (tart, wonderful) and Russets (neat, matte skin, mellw flavour) are my favourites. Another healthier snack which tastes fantastic is whole wheat pita or crackers with baba gannouj (Lebanese eggplant dip) or nice strong cheese (sharp cheddar, blue, stilton)... the fat content is there in the cheese, but it's an intense experience so you're unlikely to overeat.
A little brown or wild rice will fill you up quickly, as will celery and carrots.
Almost anything you bake yourself will taste better, and although it may not be low in fat or sugar (although there are some recipes which are), you'll miss or at least drastically reduce all those yummy preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers and artificial colours/flavours.
The trick is to eat in moderation. The trick to eating in moderation is to eat good, healthy meals between your snacks, stay busy, and eat tasty, filling stuff. [ metawidget's advice column | Ask metawidget A Question ]
snarfism answered Saturday October 18 2003, 9:23 pm: instead of soda, water (once you start drinking water, it's hard to stop! It just tastes so much better than soda.) juice, or smoothies, and if you're hungry and want a really quick snack that will give you energy, try peanut butter on crackers. also put peanut butter on bananas, apples, celery, and anything else you can think of. banana and apple chips are really good. and raisins and apricots. MissNiceness answered Thursday October 16 2003, 10:42 pm: Flavored rice cakes
Apple chips (usually in the fruit section of the grocery store)
Bottled water (usually an option at soda machines)
String cheese
A salad with a fancy dressing like rasberry sauce or a tangy red wine vinegrette. [ MissNiceness's advice column | Ask MissNiceness A Question ]
chocolatenutbar answered Thursday October 16 2003, 9:45 pm: Fruit juices (orange juice rocks!), whole-wheat crackers, various fruits or vegetables. Kira_Valoka answered Thursday October 16 2003, 8:10 pm: Milky Ways. I have one (or 2) for lunch everyday.
Also, you may wanna try Chicken salad (unless youre a vegetarian)
Just get some chunky chicken ( you can get single serving packs), some mayonase, and about a drop of mustard for flavor. Its VERY GOOD and its actually good for you. And potatoes. Eat lots of baked potatoes. and steak. Its good for your heart--as long as you dont eat the fat. which you probably won't [ Kira_Valoka's advice column | Ask Kira_Valoka A Question ]
Maplesyrup answered Thursday October 16 2003, 7:22 pm: Some good ones are grapes, apples, bananas, anything sweet and fruity should do the trick. And you can make salads if you get sick of fruits. Mmm.....this is making me hungry already.... [ Maplesyrup's advice column | Ask Maplesyrup A Question ]

SMINT answered Thursday October 16 2003, 3:51 pm: Well, fruit is good. So are veggies. I would advise just going to the store and just start picking up whatever looks good, and read the Nutrition Facts on the side to see if it's healthy. You could also read some advice books if you want to be really ambitious. [ SMINT's advice column | Ask SMINT A Question ]
MFS answered Thursday October 16 2003, 10:15 am: Apples.
Apples are the perfect fruit. There is nothing in this world better than apples.
More snacks: Peanut butter on celery, fruits, vegetables, granola, very small rocks, grass, tree bark (but not willow trees, as that contains salycilic acid, a precursor to aspirin, which can cause ulcers with extended use), small woodland creatures, human flesh, meat, and crackers. dolphinlover answered Thursday October 16 2003, 8:42 am: A little bit better option would be to get the new baked chips available now, or the ones that use olean to substitute for fat content. Celery sticks with low-fat peanut butter will provide the crunch and saltiness of chips without the calories. Fruit juices are also available that have a good amount of flavor with the added benefit of containing vitamins. [ dolphinlover's advice column | Ask dolphinlover A Question ]
downwithhydrogen answered Thursday October 16 2003, 8:30 am: Peanut butter and ritz crackers are good for all occasions. I also suggest eating (healthy) cereal, as it is not only a breakfast food. Fruit is always an option as well.
As for drinks, juice is generally healthier than soda, although some types are better than others. Try to avoid overly sugary drinks. If all else fails, water and milk will serve you well. [ downwithhydrogen's advice column | Ask downwithhydrogen A Question ]
