being hairless
What's this obsession we have with being hairless? Why do we thing that bare skin is so appealing? If we look at any animal, they just look disgusting without hair. Imagine shaving a cat.
What's wrong with hair, anyway? Is it just our preoccupation with youth that we shave the parts of our body that grow hair after puberty, in an effort to look pre-pubescent?
Sorry, just a rant. I guess if I want advice, it's this: How can I make people feel more comfortable about my hairy state?

Well ultimately, as long as you are comfortable...that is all that matters.
But as far as the issue with body hair, and why it's not exactly loved; well I think it's a hygiene issue. Not that hairy people aren't clean - but me myself, since moving to Miami, I sure make sure to keep myself nice and shaved. You seem to break into 'spontaneous' sweats and it's a fact that the bacteria that is secreted out with sweat sticks to body hair and creates an odor when the air hits it. Whoo-loa! You have good old fashioned B.O.
But getting back to the answer that you're looking for, humans are strange things...they can be decieved easily. If you act like your hairy state is the best thing since sliced bread, than they will think the same. I betcha.

You could make more people more comfortable about your hairy state by shaving. J/k. Maybe if you just explained why you choose not to shave then people would be more understanding about it.

Hmmm... Dont move to France. It's not true that they are hairier--they are, for the most part, more anal about it than Americans.
You could do what I do--ALWAYS wear jeans. I hate the cold. I'm always cold. I was in Kansas in 110 F heat wearing blue jeans and a big Tshirt.

Omigosh, i know exactly what you mean! It's such a pain to shave your armpits and legs. It's like, why is it so attractive to have hair on our head but not anywhere else? I totally agree.
But as for your question, if you really want to make people feel comfortable, don't go off into a rant such as this when they ask you if you shave your armpits. (if you choose to do this, use deoderant-its for your benifit, believe me.) You will become known as "The Weird Hairy Girl"(i'm assuming you're a girl cause i don't know many guys who shave their legs or anything.) Just...don't draw attention to it. And if your friends have a problem with your hairy body, maybe they aren't the best friends to have. think about it.

People are going to feel the way they feel. You have to be comfortable being hairy and choosing not to shave.
Women ALL OVER THE WORLD do not shave their body hair. It is not 'weird' or unusual to them. Americans shave... Europeans don't.
Personally, I like the way shaved legs feel. Some people don't. I think shaving under my arms is simply more hygenic and allows for better odor control. Men should shave under their arms too, but they are 'allowed' to have hairy armpits.
You're not going to change society, but if you feel confident in yourself, you'll change the way people look at you, regardless whether you shave or not.

I'm going to take a guess that you are a girl, because guys don't usually shave those areas. I think that people have a problem with your "hairy state" because it's not what's supposedly cool. If you look at any copy of Seventeen of People magazine, not a single celebrity on the cover is hairy except for some of the guys. I think since people see big celebrities without hair in those places, we, as a group think it wrong to have hair their. To make people feel more comfortable about it, I don't know what you should do.
