Hi, I'm 13 (obviously a girl) I have had vaginal discharge for almost a year now. I have had pubic hair for 3 years. No armpit hair. I have a lot of mood swings, like one second I think that I look so great and the next I'm crying about how every one looks better than me (I'm in a good mood right now). I have breasts but just but if I wear a big shirt I look flat. I have also had pimples/oily skin for 4 years. I have had them for 2 years. I often get cramps were I'm pretty sure my internal girly stuff is. My mom isn't really a help cause when I say that I have gas. I know I shouldn't be this concerned but all of my friends have periods and boobs just feel really out of place. I'm afraid I'll never get it. I just want it so I can stop worrying that I'll never get it. I really don't want to get it when I'm in high school cause that will be way too embarrassing. I know that people will always say just wait its not as great as you think, but I only want it to stop worrying. Is there any way I can make it come faster?

I wouldn't worry just yet. Periods can start at any time between the ages of about 10 and 16. Everyone is different and there is no "right time" to have a period. Some girls might get there period when they are young like at 10 years old and some girls might not get there period until they are 16. Right now it sounds like you are going through puberty which means that you are growing up and becoming a young woman.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to make your period come faster - periods are controlled by hormone chemicals in your body. Try not to worry about it too much you are young and you still have time to get your period. That being said, if you don't get your period by the time you are 17 then I would go and see a doctor but right now you are fine. Everyone develops at different rates so don't beat yourself up over it.

Okay i am 13 years old and i got my period at 10. At first my period would go off then go regularly. But now its flowing okay. But now on this week it supposed to come on. I dont know if its going to come on this week. But i do masturbate time to time. But i know i Cant get pregnant from that. So is this normal. Or should i worry. Please give me your advice. (link)
There are many things that cause a late/missed period such as: stress, excessive exercise, being underweight/overweight, eating disorders, change in diet or routine.

It's not unusual to have a late/missed period at your age, it can happen from time to time and I don't think you should worry about it.

Hi I am 13 years old and Im positively not sexually active . I masturbate everyday though . This month I missed my period Im guessing it usually comes at the very beginning of the month but hasn't happened . Is this bad ? Should I be worried ? (link)
No you shouldn't be worried. If you have just started your period then it might not be very regular and it may take quite a long time for your cycle to stabilise (this may take a couple of years) so the number of days between each period and how long you will get your period for will vary. When you are older your periods should start to become more regular.

Masturbation doesn't effect periods and some other reasons for a late/missed periods include: stress, excessive exercise, being underweight/overweight, eating disorders and change in diet or routine.

i am 10 and have started masturbating does that mean i will start my period soon (link)
No it doesn't mean that your period is coming soon. Masturbation and periods are two different things and they are not related to each other.

Masturbating is stimulating your self sexually and it's completely normal - there is nothing wrong in doing it. Masturbation isn't related to periods, it's your body that will decide when you will start your period. Masturbating isn't a sign that your period is coming it's just something you do to pleasure yourself.

Here are some signs that your period is coming: (Note: some girls do have signs, some have a few or no signs at all that their period is coming)

~Cramps (usually in your lower abdomen) but you can also get pain in your lower back.

~Spotting - little spots of blood in your underwear which can be red or brown.

~Discharge - you may get brown discharge before you start your period or pinkish looking discharge (normal white discharge mixed with a little bit of blood).

~PMS symptoms - sore/tender breasts, mood swings (feeling angry, irritable, depressed, emotional - crying and tearfulness), abdominal bloating, appetite changes or food cravings, lack of energy, nausea, abdominal cramps, backache, dizziness, change in bowel movements and weight gain.

periods can start at anytime between the ages of about 10 and 16 but some girls might start earlier or later - like at 17 or 18 (everyone is different). The average age is 12/13 years old. No one can tell you exactly when your period will start because everyone is different and develop at different rates. Your period will come when your body is ready.

Hi I'm almost 15 and I haven't had a period yet, it's kind of worrying me I have had discharge for 5 months and I'm starting to think that something it wrong with me. I'm 15 in 3 months and I haven't had a period yet. (link)
Periods can start at anytime between the ages of about 10 and 16 but some girls can start earlier and some can start later (like at 17 or 18 years old).

There is no need to worry just yet, everyone is different and develop at different rates. If you haven't got your first period by the time you are, I would say 17 then go and talk to a doctor.

I think I might be close to getting my period. I have cramps above my peepee (vagina) and my stomach has been bubbly , especially after I eat. And I am starting to have minor headaches . Is that signs of a period coming. (link)
It sounds like you could be getting your period soon. Cramps are definitely a sign and it's usually in your lower abdomen (above where your vagina is) and some girls can also have cramps in their lower back or pelvis. For this I would suggest a hot water bottle/heatpad placed on your stomach as this can help with the pain. Exercise, yoga or taking a warm relaxing bath can also help as well as painkillers like Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin etc).

Other signs include: spotting (little spots of blood in your underwear) and PMS symptoms like mood swings, headaches, swollen or tender breasts, bloating, backache, upset stomach, nausea, appetite changes or food cravings, fatigue (feeling tired). And yes, feeling irritable is also a sign.

Hi for the last few days I have been getting this brownish subtance in my underwear it is not a huge amount but I'm concerned its my period because I'm not a early boomer I am 14 quite small (link)
Well that could be your period. When you have your first period it doesn't always look red, it can also look brown and that's normal. It's usually very light at first and periods can last 3-7 days. You might find that your periods are all over the place and it might last less or longer than 3-7 days and they might not be very regular. All of this is normal because it might take time for your body to settle down into a regular cycle. These websites will give you information on periods:

Is it normal that I don't have my period and I'm almost 13 all of my friends have their period and there younger than me
(link)
You are fine, don't worry. Periods can start at any time between the ages of about 9 and 16. Some girls get thier period early and some don't get it until they are 16 or 17 years old and that's ok. The average age that girls have their peirod is 12.

Just because you haven't had your period yet, doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you - everyone is different. Some girls can also be late bloomers and have their period at a later age like at 15, 16 or 17 and that's normal aswell.

You are still normal even if you haven't had it and your friends who are younger than you have had their's. Like I said, it's different for everyone.

Your peirod will come when your body is ready, try not to worry too much hun you still have time to get your period x

I am making thirteen in three days and i havent had my first period. I am kind of scared and all my friends already started. I have all the symptoms and my mom started when she was thirteen
(link)
Don't worry, your period will come when your body is ready and you're only thirteen. Periods can start at any time between the ages of about 9 and 16. For some girls it can come early and for some it can come later like at 17 or 18 - every girl is different.

That can happen - having period symptoms and for it not to come yet, it may come soon since you have symptoms or it might not. Don't worry if it doesn't because you are still you young and you still have time to get your period.

Every girl is different so you might start a bit later than you friends have. I know it can be frustrating but you just have to wait. You won't want it anyway because you have cramps, mood swings, PMS etc and that's annoying even if you have ha your period for years but I guess you learn to live with it. As for your mum starting at thirteen, well some girls do start at the same age as their mum and some don't - it's not guaranteed.

Like I said it will come when your body is ready and don't be scared hun, because you're fine x

I am 12 and turning 13 in november and havent started my first period. My mom started when she was 13 and my older sister started when she was 12. I am worried that i havent started yet because i have all the symptoms
(link)
Don't worry, you're fine. Some girls have signs and then their period comes and some girls have signs and it doesn't come right away. Periods can start at any time between the ages of about 9 and 16. Some girls even start their period later than 16 like at 17 or 18 years old. Girls may get their period at the age when their mum got it but that's not necessarily true. You are only 12 and still young, it will come you just have to give it time and wait and see. Good luck x

i am ten and i want to start my piriod because all my friends did how do i start my piriod in a day
(link)
Sorry but you can not make your first period come any faster or get your first period in a day. I know it may suck because all your friends have their period but there isn't anything you can do. Your period will come when your body is ready. Some girls start early and some start at a later age like at 16 or 17 - every girl is different.

All you can do is wait. You will get there, just be patient for now.

can fingering self delay periods. i have fingered thrice myself and my periods were due in june 28 bt still no sign of it., (link)
Masturbation including fingering does not delay periods. Pregnancy, illness, stress/emotional stress, being under weight or being overweight, changes in diet or medications and birth control can delay your period. If you are worried then go and see your doctor or gynecologist.

I am 26 years old and I am a female. People say and I read in a medical book that a girl shouldn't drink coffee or caffeine when she has her period. I was just wondering why sometimes I want coffee when I have my period I am a coffee lover and if I could have any bad health consequeces because of it.Or any suggestions what I should do. (link)
There is nothing wrong with drinking coffee on your period however coffee has caffeine in it and for some girls and women it can make cramps worse. It not true for everyone - every girl is different, some girls might not have bad cramps drinking coffee and some do. This still doesn't mean can't and you shouldn't drink coffee, I don't think that there are any bad consequences when drinking coffee on your period (apart from making cramps worse).

You can eat and drink what you like when on your period. If you want to drink coffee, then drink coffee. From my personal experience, when I had coffee on my period I got bad period pain. It's not that you "shouldn't" drink it, it's just fom what people have experienced.

do cold drinks lessen the flow of blood during periods?
(link)
Nope sorry but drinking cold drinks will not lessen the flow of blood during periods. There isn't really a natural way to lessen the flow of blood however there is birth control. The birth control pill can lighten periods and also help with period cramps.

Hello peoples,
well i was just wondering what happens when a guy goes through puberty, like i know about girls (duh cause i'm a girl) like they bleed but what happens to a guy? Do they have to wear anything? Like I know girls have to wears pads and tampons, do boys have to wear anything!!! Please please please please tell me!!!thanks (link)
Guys don't have periods like girls do (they don't have a uterus or vagina) they have boy parts. Only girls have periods - not guys. This is because only females can become pregnant. Boys don't bleed like girls do but they do go through puberty. Some of the changes are the same as girls and some are different because they are male and us girls are female.

No guys don't wear pads or tampons because they don't bleed. Girls do because like I said girls have periods and periods are part of the female reproductive system.

Some of the main changes in boys are:

~The body grows taller.
~The body grows broader (the shoulders and chest, in paticular, grow bigger).
~The body may sweat more.
~Hair may become more greasy.
~Skin may become more greasy and spots may develop.
~Hair starts to grow under the arms, on the legs, in the pubic area around the base of the penis, on the face, and sometimes on the chest.
~The voice starts to get deeper (though it may be a bit squeaky to begin with).
~The penis and testicles become bigger, and sperm start to be produced.

Sperm are the male reproductive cells, in the same way that the eggs in a woman's ovary are the female reproductive cells. If these two cells meet inside a woman then a baby might be made. Guys also have things called wet dreams, ejaculation and erections.

What Singes Tells Me I Am Going To Get My Period Soon? (link)
Here are some signs that your period is going to start (Note: not every girl has signs that there period is coming. I remember that I had no signs at all and it came suddenly. It's ok if you do have signs and it's also ok if you don't). So here are some signs:

*Spotting (little bit of blood or specks of blood on your knickers).
*Food cravings.
*Back ache.
*Cramps.
*Headaches.
*Mood swings.
*Vaginal discharge.
*Fatigue.
*Breast tenderness.
*Feeling like you need the toilet more.
*Nausea.
*Feeling bloated.

Okay, this is a bit weird, but i thought i started my peirod in 6th grade, but it stayed for one day and left, then three years later (three months ago) i thought i had gotten it like forever because it stayed for three days, but it has not returned scence, i have gotten discharge for 4 years of my life, and i am confused, if someone could explain, it would help me alot!

Thank You! (link)
It's not uncommon for your very first period to last only for a day. When you first start to have periods, they may not be very regular. Your body will take time to settle into a regular cycle - this might take 2 years or more. Relax, this is normal.

You may find thy you skip a period or don't have another one for a long time after you have had your first period. You also may find that it on lasts a few days or it is longer. This is your period being irregular. Don't worry, like I said it can be like this for a long time and it's perfectly normal.

What should I have at school if I have my period (link)
I would make a period kit, it comes in handy if your period comes at school. You first have to get a small bag or a makeup bag to put the things in it (make sure it's not see through in case it falls out of your bag and make sure it can be buttoned or zipped up so if it does fall out, the things like pads or tampons etc won't spill onto the floor where your classmates can see). Things I would put in a period kit:

~Pads/Tampons - though I would start with pads first if you are starting your first period.

~Painkillers - they come in handy for when you get period cramps. Anti-inflammatory painkillers are good like Ibuprofen. Midol, Advil and Tylenol are good as well.

~Extra pair of panties - in case you leak.

Im a lire if u've seen that other question, im 11 (i felt embarrassed to say)My mum started her period between 12 and 13. I'm 12 and a couple of days, i started getting Milky discharge about a year ago. isn't that as long before you start your period? Ive hit puberty aswell, and started developing breasts. Quite allot of my friends have started and when people ask me i lie and say yes because im scared that they'll think im strange.- how long will i have to wait for it to start? And should i tell people the truth? Please help. (link)
It's not strange that you haven't got your period yet and it's up to you if you want to tell your friends the truth or not.

No one can tell you exactly when your period will starts because periods are a natural thing and it will come when your body is ready. Some girls get their period early and some girls get it later or when they are a bit older like at 15 or 16. Some girls have all the signs of starting but it doesn't start until months or years later and some girls start soon after they get the signs including vaginal discharge. Everyone is different.

Girls most likely will start at the age of when their mum started so you might get it between the ages of 12 and 13. Don't worry if you don't because this is not always true. It can be for some girls but their are other girls who don't get their period at the age of when their mum did and that's fine.

You are only 11 so don't worry hun, like I said it will come when your body is ready.

yes i had a question about my period mine last for about a week. And my cramps are relly bad what can i do for them? (link)
You can try the following, it helps for me (I get really bad period pain) and it can help for other people.

~Hot water bottle/Heat pad.
~Gentle exercise like walking or yoga.
~Taking a warm bath.
~Herbal remedies such as herbal tea. I have Chamomile and Peppermint here at home. You can find it at your local supermarket or health store. Other herbal teas that are supposed to be good for menstrual cramps are Ginger, Peppermint and Raspberry tea leaf.

Food to avoid while on your period:

I would avoid salty food (increases bloating), sugary sweet food, caffeinated foods or beverages, dairy and junk food. Stay hydrated and eat plenty of fibre.
