i'm dan. i'm 20. i'm from cherry hill (south nj, near philly). i'm a junior at william paterson university (north nj, near nyc) majoring in english. i want to be a music critic or at least a music-centered journalist, or snag a record deal...whichever one comes up first. i'm the president/editor of the school's literary journal and english club. i'm in love with a beautiful woman named Korey who I've been with for 2 and a half years. i just put out my first record. i'm an outspoken fat admirer and size acceptance advocate. i am living proof that a high school experience involving depression, abuse from classmates, failing grades, attempting suicide, hospitalization, and generally the shit stacked against me can all be overcome in college. i am happier than i've ever been in my whole life. feel free to ask me anything, but be warned: you're gonna hear the horrible truth. i specialize in sex and music questions. my blind spots are sports and cars.

anyone know who is or what its called? thanks. (link)
red hot chili peppers - "under the bridge", on the album bloodsugarsexmagik

i just got a record deal. But they want me to do all these things I dont want to do. How do i tell them i want to do some things my way without getting fired?

(link)
you have to weigh the pros and the cons. they want to make money off you, just like you want them to spend money to make you a star. you'll have to reach a compromise on many things, and if you really don't think it's worth it, get yourself dropped. but think about it this way, isn't being signed and doing a few things you don't wanna do better than getting a boring-ass real job? do what they say for a little while, they're the experts, and if you start to make money, start saving it up. later on you'll have more freedom when it matters.

I'm a song-writer, guitarist, and vocalist in a Christian band, and I want some help getting subject matter for some songs, we really need something new and I'm running out of any good ideas. Anybody got anything that would be worth singing about in a southern-rock/acoustic style of music?

+_=_RoadkillSalad_=_+ (link)
try writing some secular stuff. something you wouldn't normally write about. maybe you can try both sides of the coin and write about something from a christian perspective that isn't talked about much, like sex, violence and politics. what is the christian perspective on those subjects? what are your thoughts on them? think about what's currently bugging you lately, and write about your feelings.

I have this problem you could say, but whenever I find a neat, original band and I put their song in my info or something, somebody always steals it. Not only that, they think they know all about the band because they know part of one song. I know this is very selfish of me to think one band is labeled "mine", but I can't help it. One of my friends stole 10 bands that I once liked. Every song that I listened to, she went off and downloaded. I know most of you are going to say "well take it as a compliment, she likes your music", but the thing is I don't take it as a compliment at all, it's quiet annoying. Does anyone have any advice on this? Do you think that what I'm doing is as stupid as I think it is? (link)
let me give you the cold hard truth and say nothing's original anymore. you weren't the first to discover any of those bands, so wouldn't you think it's silly if someone complained you were ripping off their style? the best you can do is enjoy the music for what it is, and if other people start taking after you, what can you do? if your group of friends ends up liking the same stuff, you guys could make plans to go to shows together. it isn't "stealing" as you put it, because they're simply taking your recommendations. take it as a compliment if your friends are following your taste in music. i'd kill to have my friends give a shit about the last few cds i've bought.

I bought the Cruel Intentions Soundtrack about a month ago and I absolutley love it! Does anyone know of any other CD's that are a lot like the Cruel Intentions Soundtrack?? Thanks in advance. (link)
if you like blur's "coffee & tv" on that sdtrk check out their album "13," which is just as good.

what are some bands that aren't well known? like rock or metal bands. like how TBS used to be. but know a lot of people know who they are. know any good ones?thanks. (link)
sleater-kinney and the dismemberment plan are excellent hard rock bands. if by tbs you mean taking back sunday, then try cursive or sunny day real estate, both emo-influenced bands who are kind of heavy.

All throughout my life I've broken every set of headphones I've ever owned. I really dont know what the deal is. They always seem to lose connection on the right side. Does this happen to anyone else? Anyway, I kind of borrowed some headphones from my sister and now Ive found that I've broken those too. .. Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks to all who answer, I rate. (link)
i've had the same thing happen alot, and i've sort of deduced to stay away from COBY headphones and Panasonic. more expensive headphones tend to stay together for longer, so bite the bullet and get yourself some $30 sony ones, trust me you'll save money on all the new 'phones you won't hafta buy.

hi i've been searching far and wide looking for downloadable mp3's from the band new order. i've tried dogpile, google, altavista, singingfish, just about anything you can imagine. the weirdest things is that dogpile used to have a load of links, but now the majority of the results aren't even relevant or play short clips of the songs.

does anyone know where i can find free downloadable mp3s to link back for background music? again, the band's name is new order.

thanks! (link)
winmx.com, download WinMx 3.0 and search it for new order. i have 3 or 4 new order albums i was album to dl from winmx.

I dance hip hop and I'm sick of dancing to the same songs over and over. Does anyone know any good hip hop songs that are danceable?
I don't want just normal hip hop it HAS to be dancebale.
Also; crunk or r&b would do as long as they are fast and dancebale.

I rate 5's for big lists. (link)
M.I.A. - "Galang"
Missy Elliott - "Lose Control"
Cee-Lo - "Closet Freak"
Freeway - "What We Do"
Mystikal - "Pussy Pop"
Kelis - "Trick Me"
The Streets - "Let's Push Things Forward"
Lyrics Born - "Bad Dreams"
Fannypack - "Keep It Up"

and you can never go wrong with these old faves...
Naughty By Nature - "O.P.P."
House Of Pain - "Jump Around
Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance"

Does anyone know of any artists or songs that sound a bit like Missy Elliott?
I can't find anyone that's famous at the minute.
I don't mind if they're new or old school :D (link)
M.I.A. is a great sri lankan rapper who sounds ALOT like missy elliott and even appears on her new album. imagine missy elliott with some political lyrics and beats that sound like videogame music. look for her song "galang"

Hey im doing an upcoming talent show for skool and the only song that i can think of doing that is easy enuff for my friend is Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana!!! I want a song sumwere around Nirvana, Sum 41 and The White stripes...plz help!!
Thanx in advance =) (link)
the white stripes' "fell in love with a girl" is easy. it's all power chords, it's short and fast. it'll leave an impression and it shouldn't be too hard too sing, which "smells like teen spirit" kind of is.

people out of no where have been calling my like fat whore and all this other stuff...and it really really hurts...im not a whore..and i am a little fat but compared to people in our school im an ok size...and all this just came out of no where...how can i make it stop...and please dont tell me to ignore it or it doesnt matter what people say..cause it does matter what people say and think and theres no possible way to ignore it (link)
the sooner you learn ignore it, the sooner it stops bothering you. put on your headphones and walk away. don't give them a reaction, because they'll just do it more. don't go to your principal or parents...it doesn't work. if it keeps up, tell them you'll sue for sexual harassment, and if that doesn't scare them off, tell your guidance counselor you're being sexually harassed, because that's what calling someone a whore is. and if you're worried about your size, there are plenty of guys who dig chubby or even fat girls (i'm one of them), as you'll find out when you're in a more mature setting.

I have a friend moving away to England during the summer (we currently live in America). I want to put together a mix CD for her. Are there any suggestions of songs I should use? Keep in mind that both me and her HATE rap and urbanish songs...

The songs should be like, about never forgetting her and having fun and stuff... I don't know, things that would remind you of someone who was moving away, if that made sence. Thank you! (link)
"friends forever" by the old 97's should work.

Okay. so. i'm 14-years, female, and live in alabama. I've been told soooo many times that i should try out for american idol, however, i have to be 16. I really want to be noticed. I've had voice lessons, and competed in vocal competitions. I realllly need some advice on how to be noticed..i've search for talent auditions and whatnot near me..and had NO luck whatsoever. i need an agent. help me please. xox7hearts;ash (link)
you don't need an agent, you need connections. find classmates and kids at your school in the music department who play real instruments...guitar, piano, etc, that you can sing with and write songs with. believe me, finding musicians your age will help you much more than american idol, which even good singers have a slim chance of winning, plus getting signed to a record label on your own after writing your own songs will win you more respect and you'll have more creative control than someone who won a contest would. does your school do a battle of the bands? ask around the music department and someone will point you in the direction of auditions and talent shows.

I'm trying to learn how to play guitar, & I don't relly want to ahve to go get lessons, so I wanted to be self-taught, but I don't know any iste where I can learn how to play or know where to buy any books to learn how to play.

I don't know any chords or keys or anything, I am JUST starting so I'd need like the things what show you where to put your fingers & how to tune the guitar & stuff

so if anyone could show me a site that I could learn form or where to buy these books I would really appreiciate it!

& I was also wondering, should I buy an accoustic or a eliktic guitar? (I'm 14/M/TX)

thank you so much!

-Cameron (link)
don't buy books. any tab you could need is online somewhere for free. http://mxtabs.net is the best guitar tab site available, it should have any song you're looking for. buy an electric guitar because it's easier to press down the strings and the frets are smaller, so a first-timer will have less difficulty. i'd recommend starting off with green day songs, or something punkish in general, as they'll help you learn speed and the chords are usually very easy. i've been playing guitar for 8 years self-taught, and it takes at least 2 to fully get a handle on everything. don't force yourself to practice too much, just do it when you're feeling into it, at least twice or three times a week.

i want to teach myself to play guitar. i have a guitar and a couple song books. i can play chords and a few simple songs. but when i download tabs from the internet, they're always wrong. whats a sight where i can find accurate tabs? (link)
mxtabs.net is the best guitar tab site available, it should have any song you're looking for, and there's user ratings, so songs with 5 star ratings should be accurate.

i am in the process of writing some songs. I think that they suck. And i need advice on how i can make them better. I cant ever find anything 2 rhyme with anything. If you get what im saying i need some help or tips on writing songs! (link)
there are online rhyming dictionaries if you search "rhyming dictionary" on google.com, but my advice is to not worry so much about rhyming words, unless you're a rapper. i'd say to write and write, just off the top of your head, for like a page or so just putting things down without thinking about it. then go back and try to put some of the lines together. see if anything works, and then try to shape them into lines you can rhyme at the end. remember, not everything has to rhyme, and for the love of god, please don't rhyme "fly with "high" or "sky" and don't rhyme "love" with "dove."

my friends and i listen to rock music, but they always no the new songs that are out, but i never do(bad radio stations). is there a website or something that has all the new music on it??? (link)
y100rocks.com is my local (philadelphia) alternative station and it has a prtety big playlist with lots of bands, many are new and largely unknown. pitchforkmedia.com features daily music news and reviews of new bands. read some reviews and see if anything sounds good to you. then trot over to amazon.com to listen to samples if you'd like.

I want to take the words out of a song on a music CD,and some how,(DO NOT KNOW HOW),record the same song with my voice. I want to use my computer to do this. Can anyone tell me HOW this can be done,IF IT CAN,or some ideas on how to do this at low cost, cheap software, computer recording trix, any advice no matter how little will help. I have a Music Match Plus Program,if that will help anyone,I will greatly appreciate the HELP. thank you,MrNoVoice. (link)
can't be done. if the songs you want to record yourself over are hip-hop songs, you're in luck, because instrumental versions of most big hiphop hits are available...try searching kazaa or winmx for instrumental or inst and see what comes up. as far as recording, cool edit pro is the best program available for amateurs on windows. it'll set you back $500 or so but you can look for bootlegs online.

what kind of music is this grateful dead, frank zappa, little feet, the who, rolling stones, led zepplin, pat b., santana, weird al, rage against the machine, jimmy hendrix ?? (link)
most of what you named is classic rock, except for weird al, who plays music parodies (funny versions of other people's songs) and rage against the machine, who play rap-rock that's very influenced by led zeppelin
