Hey, just wondering when girls start to get their periods. I had just read a question about periods on here and stuff and then I started wondering, when? Is it when they hit puberty or when they hit their teen years? Puberty sounds more logical to me, but I don't know, I'm a guy and so I don't get periods. Anyway I'm 13(m).

There is no one answer for this.

That's to say, although the average age is around 12, anytime between 11 - 16 is completely normal.

You're right in that periods are a sign of puberty but they are usually one of the final stages. Generally, girls will have already have developed things like breasts and pubic hair before their periods start and just like with guys, the age at which that happens completely varies.
