girls and their periods

Question Posted Thursday June 3 2010, 4:14 am

Hey, just wondering when girls start to get their periods. I had just read a question about periods on here and stuff and then I started wondering, when? Is it when they hit puberty or when they hit their teen years? Puberty sounds more logical to me, but I don't know, I'm a guy and so I don't get periods. Anyway I'm 13(m).

Girls usually start their periods within the ages of 10-16. Always it's different! Girls start their periods when they are going through puberty. They tippically start when they are begining to develop breasts. Even if they are not that big. If a girl had mood swings or is nice to you one day then hates you or is mad at you' the next, it probably means they are about to start or have started just fir a piece of advice. Hope this helped!

It's whenever puberty starts- it's actually happened a few times in really young girls, like elementary school- basically whenever they start to 'develop'.

There is no one answer for this.

That's to say, although the average age is around 12, anytime between 11 - 16 is completely normal.

You're right in that periods are a sign of puberty but they are usually one of the final stages. Generally, girls will have already have developed things like breasts and pubic hair before their periods start and just like with guys, the age at which that happens completely varies.
