If you have a ballet (Ball-ay) why do you have a wallet (wahll-et) and not wallet (wall-ay)?
You know I really don't know? Lol, I'm assuming it's because ballet is a french word and they don't pronounce a lot of the letters at the end of their words, but wallet is American/English, and we tend to pronounce all the letters at the end of our words, but not always at the start (for example knee, or knife).
Hope that helped!!
