Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

so basically. im 15/f. well my mom is putting me on birth control because my period is wayyy irregular and because she thinks ima have sexx and get pregnant. [[virgin. ugh]] so i said ill do it. but i heard that u gain a lot of weight but it goes strait to your boobs. and that interested me fo sho. haha. but im not sure if thats true. does anyone know if that is. because i really need sum extra boobage. haha if that makes sence. plz help. thankss :]]

Usually, the boobs do grow bigger because of the extra estrogen but the estrogen also packs weight onto other areas. The generally accepted theory is that if your boobs are growing bigger, you're also gaining fat around your hips and thighs.
But then again, I have had a few friends who have lost a ton of weight on the pill and their breasts have barely changed.
You pretty much have a fifty fifty chance of your boobs growing bigger (and even if they do, it'll probably be only a slight change) so I wouldn't be banking on them changing your figure.
The most important thing is not to keep switching BC brands to see if they can change your body. That totally screws up your system and you can effect you really badly because it takes a while for the effects of the birth control to completely wear off.

Today i found out that my b/f was talking about me in english. My friend told me that her b/f(who is mi b/f's best friend), told her and to even ask one of my BEST FRIENDs about it, so i did. She aggreed with it. She said he really only talks about me when we are in a fight, but theyre mightve been some other times too. She sed she mightve over heard him telling his friend that I'm a bitch but shes not 100% sure.
He usually isnt the type to lie about something like that, but idk. Like recently other guys have been hitting on me nd he just laughs. And i noticed that he ALWAYS interrupts me when im talking to him. He doesnt pay as much attention as he used to do cuz he cant remember half the things i tell him...
he also sed tht one day the girl who told me bout his talkin called me a bitch (as a joke tho) and he laughed. I do believe that the girl would say that, but not seriously.
Should i just let it go this time?

Yeah, you can let it go right now if you feel like it but it will probably happen again and honestly, if it does, I wouldn't stick around.

Okay, I'm 16 years old. Not sexually active or anything like that. So I have always been freaked out by even thinking about having to go to the gyno, but i don't know if my mom is making me go to the gynocolegist, but I was just wondering if you HAVE to. I know you would have to if you had like something that ran in your family that you had to, but I heard that your parents can't make you because your under 18. & that it's your choice if you want to go or not. So I was wondering if anybody knew if you "HAD" to go. Thanks.
No, you don't have to go. No one can make you. But generally, once you hit your age, it's a smart thing to go. Going to the gyno doesn't imply that he/she is checking for STDs, they also check for cancers and just to make sure that everything down there is working ok.

my family puts so much pressure on me to do "good". straight a's in school, scholarships for college, healthy friendships. my parents pretty much contol my life.
but the thing that bothers me most is that they treat me and my brother so different. im 16 and hes 18. i know that there is an age difference. but when he ran away at christmas and didnt come back for a week, they now treat him like "the perfect child" if you will. they dont yell at him about his shitty grades. they dont yell at him for skipping work and going to his girlfriends house while her parents are away.
but when i run away in a store, they ground me for a month. wtf is up with that? they threaten all the time to forcefully make me quit the tennis team and make me pay them the 200 dollars back (which i dont have).
everything has been going wrong and i cant stand it. its not just family. its friends, boyfriend, school, tennis. its everything. and i cant stand it. my dads a pastor and a cop. and i just want to give up and end everything. i used to cut. i dont anymore. made my best friend a promise that i wouldnt. and i intend to keep that promise. i have noone to turn to except for a 22 year old who ive grown up with and my parents dont trust. they wont let me talk to him cause they think im having sex with him. hes married and has a kid. im ready to give up. ready to end everything. its hard to hold on when i have nothing to hold on for.
The reason they don't seem to care about your brother's intentions is because they're afraid that he'll run away again.
You may be surprised to hear this, but a lot of parents are overprotective. Actually, even more so than previous generations for some reason. Today's parents drive their kids because they want everything for them even if that means the kid needs to suffer sometimes.
But honey, you need to talk to your parents about your feelings. Calmly sit down with them and tell them that you can't take the pressure anymore and have been thinking about suicide. If they're of any use at all, they'll realize what they're doing to you and straighten up which they probably will because they already eased up on your brother.
Tell them about your relationship with the older guy and explain to them that these days he is the only grown up you feel comfortable talking to because they have pretty much alienated you.

I highly recommend Drysol. My friend used to sweat all the time and leave wet patches on all her clothes but after she started using it, the amount of sweat she produced lowered.

You guys should take a break so you can figure out what the issue really is. Maybe it dosn't have anything to do with him at all, or maybe you're like that around all boys that you like.
The only way you can fix this is to isolate what the issue really is and then try to make it better.

Honey, everyone I know is uncircumcised and a lot of my girlfriend prefer uncircumcised. Plus, it's healthier.
And getting circumcised is possible but will be extremely painful and it is going to hurt to pee for a while. Imagine getting kicked in the nuts constantly for a week. It's worse than that.

So, whenever I get home, the first thing I do is change in to my pajamas (I've been doing this for about three years now). I also change even if I know that my boyfriend is about to come over. He's been coming over for about six months now and we've been going out for a year and a half.
Today, my boyfriend came over. Of course, I was in my pajamas by the time he arrived. Whenever my mom and I brought him home, my mom said, "Your dad doesn't want you to wear pajamas when Andrew comes over anymore". My pajamas aren't skimpy. It's just a regular girls tee-shirt with capri type pants. I even wear a bra under my shirt as if it were daytime clothes.
What should I do? What is his logic behind this (I asked my mom and she didn't know)?

You just have to know.
This sounds corny but when you're in love, something in you just changes. It's something you can't explain but it'll be different from all your other relationships and crushes.
And don't confuse love with lust. Lust is purely sexual. Love is mostly something unexplainable but deeper.
