is there a difference between jpeg and jpg?

No. There is no difference, and you can convert from one to the other by simply renaming the file. Both will work exactly the same.

JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, so the format should be referred to as "JPEG" when possible. A long time ago, though, all file extensions (like .jpg) had to be 3 characters in length or less, so .jpeg was shorted to .jpg. When people stopped using OSs that required the 3-character limit, .jpeg became more commonly used.

so i bought a 512mb ram stick (the max my computer can hold) but when i tried to put it in, and boot up my computer, the diagnostic said that there was only 32mb of ram in one slot, as opposed to 512 in each of 2. windows wouldnt load with that, so i took the new stick out and it booted as usual. is it a defective stick? it says 512 on it, and the other stats match up to my requirments as well.

It's more likely a problem with your motherboard or BIOS. Defective RAM wouldn't do that. It could have been mislabeled, though.

If you're using more than one stick, try each stick individually. Maybe one of them interacts badly. If you only have one stick or that doesn't work, call the RAM manufacturer. They'll have more experience with this than your motherboard manufacturer.

When booting, hold down DEL (usually) to enter BIOS setup. Search the options for something that could be causing this. Look for words like "memory" and "large".

You might try updating your BIOS. If you have an old motherboard, that's terribly difficult and dangerous. Download the BIOS firmware from your motherboard manufacturer's site, not the BIOS manufacturer. Follow their instructions.

If none of that works and you can't get support for your RAM or motherboard, the people here are very experienced with hardware:

Good luck!

Am I related to someone if my gramma's sister is married to his gramma's brother?

That would make him your 2nd cousin in-law. You're not related by blood, though.

okay how do you justify the text & center it on your page?

i try putting the justify code & then the centering code but it just centers it.

i reverse it and it just justifies it.

please help & thanks in advance

Those are mutually exclusive. When text is justified, every line is of the same length. When text is centered they're not. Text can't be both justified and centered.

You can put justified text in the middle of the page, though. Use this:

Your text

Adjust the percentages if you want more or less space around the justified text. You can also used a fixed value like "margin-left:20px" (20 pixels) or "margin-left:5cm" (5 centimeters).

Hey theymos, quick question;

Is it possible to make a keyboard key's action into an icon? Say I have something bound to F10 or F11, but would rather double click an icon on the desktop rather than press the key, is that possible? I'm on Windows XP.

Thanks!

Yes, that can be easily done using autohotkey:
http://www.autohotkey.com/
Autohotkey only runs when invoked. It won't be running all the time.

You can use the included script creator or write the scripts yourself. The AHK language is very easy. Here's a list of commands:
http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands.htm
SEND and CLICK are especially important.

The command to "press" f10 is:
send {f10}

This will wait 5 seconds, and then press F10 every 1.5 seconds:
sleep 5000
loop{
send {f10}
sleep 1500
}
You can stop it by right clicking on the AHK logo in the lower right and selecting "exit" or "pause script".

This will select the topmost window with "Mozilla Firefox" in the title and then press f10:
settitlematchmode, 2
winactivate, Mozilla Firefox
send {f10}

You can create the file/icon by opening AutoScriptWriter, inputting the desired commands in the large textbox, and pressing "save". Once the file is created, just double-click it to run the script. You can edit the script by opening it in any text editor (like notepad). It can be put in the quick start or start bar, like any program.

Contact me if you need more help with this. I'm very familiar with AHK.

i'm very interested in december 21, 2012 (122112), the supposed apocalypse.

i was curious. some people, who are SO convinced that 122112 will bring nothing claim that december 21, 2012 is simply the end of a cycle and the start of a new one.

well, for all you people, WHY ISN'T THERE A 14TH CYCLE?

also can someone make an organized list of things that might happen on 122112?

i have...

1.) magnetic pole shift
2.) ice age
3.) global warming causing inhabitable conditions
4.) solar storms
5.) increases in flooding, droughts, tornadoes, tsunamis, ETC ETC ETC

**Their calendar doesn't end then. There are 13 baktuns in one piktun. A baktun is like a month and a piktun is like a year (except they're both much longer). 2012 is the start of the first ever piktun since the creation of the Mayan calendar. The Mayan calendar will continue to work forever. It was made with long-term times in mind, and it's infinitely expandable.**

In the year 999, people didn't say that it was "0999," they just said "999". In the same way, most Mayan dates drop the beginning zeros. Right now would be something like 0.12.0.0.0.0. 2012 will be 1.0.0.0.0.0. The Mayans did write a few predictions and references to dates after 2012; they definitely thought that people would still be alive.

They might have thought something extraordinary would happen on that date, though. Perhaps the Singularity, a world war, some awesome scientific discovery, etc.

Wikipedia has an article about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar

And there are countless sites that talk about it:

In the past I've made tons of e-mail addresses. Is it true after a while they will be deleted in the database? For example...Yahoo. I have 2 forgotten ID's that Yahoo sent me. Is there a way people can find my personal information like address? I haven't logged in them for years...one was from 2006. What about AIM, GMAIL, and Hotmail?

Hotmail/live deletes your account if you don't log in for a year. Gmail and AIM after 90 days. Yahoo after 120 days.

You don't need to actually log into the site. Logging into Live messenger, AIM, Gtalk, YIM resets the timer.

If your account was deleted due to inactivity, you can recreate it. After you recreate the account, you'll continue to receive mail sent to it, though you can't get your old mail back.

i don't personally use limewire to get music or other illegal downloading methods, but all my friends do. i was thinking of downloading limewire but i was wondering what the chances are of being caught illegally downloading music? and also what will it do to my computer, would it start running slower?

Read my answer here:
http://www.advicenators.com/column.php?u=theymos&mode=qview&q=545544

Limewire works like any other program. When it's running (even in the lower-right-corner of your screen), everything else will be slowed down. All programs do that.

It will also use a bit of your Internet connection constantly to help the Limewire network, upload files in your shared folders, and download files you have queued. By default, it doesn't use much of your Internet connection, so you probably won't even notice it.

are there any msn clones for ubuntu or linux
other than pidgin internet messenger
and amsn

The official Live Messenger will not run on Linux, even using wine, and there are no other programs that support all of its features. According to Wikipedia, these programs will run on Linux and support msn's network:
SIM
Qnext
Licq
Kopete
Instantbird
eBuddy
Centericq
BitlBee

Hey, will increasing your computer memory help increase gaming graphics and help reduce game lag and etc.? I like to play some downloadable massive online computer games, but my computer can't handle them very well due to lack of memory. If so, what do I need to help increase my computer memory? I'm looking forward to something I can just connect to my ports or something? Instead of something complicated like taking the hard drive apart to put in a new chip or something. Here's some info on my computer to help you with your suggestions: HP Pavilion with

Go here:
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest
Choose the game you want to run. I guarantee the site is safe. Accept any warnings. If your game isn't there, choose "World of Warcraft-PC", which has similar system requirements as most MMOGs.

The site might not work the first time you use it. If it hasn't done anything for 5 minutes, just go back to the site and try again.

After testing your computer, it will tell you which components in your computer you need to upgrade. Read my guide here to learn about these components:
http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=759&userboard_id=38985

All of the important components will require you to open your computer. It's usually really easy, but if you're not comfortable with doing it yourself, you can hire someone.

Lag can also be caused by a slow Internet connection. Go here:
http://speedtest.net
Click the gold pyramid. If your download speed is below 2500kbps, you should buy a faster connection from your ISP.

how do i make a small picture as a background? for example this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/Kel89/favorites/colorful-3.jpg

i want to make it my myspace background but when i do it repeats how do i STRETCH IT OUT and make it one pcture, and not like 20 pf them in the whole page?

i want only one huge one that was transformed from the small original one to FIT THE WHOLE SCREEN,and not repeat to fit .

so can anyone please teach me how to make that my background and tell me what codes to put..
also, i would rather get the already done for me code so i can just copy and paste it to my myspace THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

thanks in advance, i hope you people can help me.. =/

Here's how to do it on a regular webpage:
http://webdesign.about.com/od/css3/f/blfaqbgsize.htm
That won't work on Myspace, though. It's probably possible to do it on Myspace, but no one's bothered to try.

whats a good antivirus program?

hows webroot?

My comparison of free antivirus programs:
http://antivirus.theymos.com
I recommend Avast for newer computers:
http://avast.com/eng/home-registration.php
Antivir for older computers:
http://free-av.com/
And NOD32 if you want to pay:
http://eset.com

Webroot is not good. I've tried them in the past.

As for antispyware, which you should use in addition to your antivirus, I recommend you regularly run scans with both Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware:
http://spybot.info
http://lavasoft.com/
A realtime or paid antispyware is not necessary. If you feel you need realtime protection, I recommend Spyware Terminator:

.nametext{background-image:url(http://a341.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/105/s_747edd5a3fbbd474647138e978d622cc.jpg);background-position:relative;background-repeat:no-repeat; overflow:hidden;height:200px;width:200px; font-size:0.5px;text-align:left;color:000000;padding: 6px 6px 6px 6px;

If you're not designing a Myspace layout or complex HTML+CSS page, none of that is important.

Padding does create space around an element, as does margin and border. However, it interacts with other elements differently than margin and border. See this document, and especially the first image:
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/box.html
In your code, there are 6px of space around the content. Padding:6px would have had the same effect, but it's shorter.

Background-position is where the background image starts. Background-position:1px 2px will place the background image 2px from the top of the page and 1px from the left. Background-position:relative is not valid. It should do nothing. They might have confused it with position:relative.

If an element's contents is too big to fit within its height and width, it overflows. Overflow:hidden makes all overflowing content not appear on the page. Overflow:auto would make scrollbars appear on the element and overflow:visible would make the content ignore the height when overflowing (usually resulting in a mess).

thanks for your help! why cant the apartment number be written in the first address line?

Online, you're supposed to put the apartment number on line two. Probably so their computer systems can understand it better. If you put it on line one, the mail/package will probably still get through.

On real letters, you can do it either way. It doesn't really matter.

When I was at Wal-mart I was looking through their dental care and hygiene section and noticed a lot of toothpastes (Colgate, Arm and Hammer, Aquafresh, Crest, etc.) have something called fluoride in them. Can you tell me what fluoride is and what it does for us? Why do we need it in toothpaste?

Wikipedia. Use it.

so i signed up on cash crate to do the paid surveys. i didnt do any, and then like a day later i decided i didnt want to anymore, so i cancelled my account. however im still gettin e-mails from all the ads and stuff. i get almost 100 a day, and i mark every one as junk and delete it, bu it continues to send more and more. how can i stop it ??

You can't. Just like you can't stop someone from sending you a letter. If that many spam messages are getting through to your inbox, I would just get a new email address.

In the future, use spamgourmet to avoid spam:
http://www.spamgourmet.com/

Also, the spam is coming from the paid survey place, not CashCrate. CashCrate does not control, and is not responsible for the activities of third-party offers. You can safely use your real email for your CashCrate account, but use a spamgourmet email for the offers. CashCrate doesn't have a problem with this.
