Question Posted Monday August 11 2008, 11:28 am

i don't personally use limewire to get music or other illegal downloading methods, but all my friends do. i was thinking of downloading limewire but i was wondering what the chances are of being caught illegally downloading music? and also what will it do to my computer, would it start running slower?

Limewire is crap.

There is a large majority of virus laden items out there, everything from songs to movies to programs.

And theres generally no way to find out if limewire items have these viruses until they are already on your computer.

But, if you go against my advice, and use it, go Google Peer Guardian 2. It is a program that should be running whenever you download anything, because it blocks IP addresses from known servers that can and will track your IP.

Its a toss up. Millions of people download and nothing happens. Thousands of people get letters in the mail, subpeonas, and other things that will cost you and your family thousands of dollars at the bare minimum.

Limewire works like any other program. When it's running (even in the lower-right-corner of your screen), everything else will be slowed down. All programs do that.

It will also use a bit of your Internet connection constantly to help the Limewire network, upload files in your shared folders, and download files you have queued. By default, it doesn't use much of your Internet connection, so you probably won't even notice it.

the chances are very low of you actually getting caught, so i really wouldnt worry about that. but make sure you have a good virus blocker on your computer, because limewire has been known to put viruses on computers before and they're really hard to get rid of.

A ton of people use Limewire, I don't think there is really any risk of getting caught downloading the music. I've made tons of cds off limewire and never seemed to have a problem so I think you are on the safe side.
