I'm a woman in Texas. I'm married and have a school-aged child. I have a medical background. I'm quite liberal, socially. I love helping people with medical, parenting, and social questions. Don't ask me about tech stuff or finances, because I need advice on those things myself!

What is Sparkling wine?
Personally what is your opinion about it? To you like it better compared to regular? What different about it? Is it sweeter? (link)
Sorry, but it has nothing to do with having no alcohol. Sparkling wine is a term the wine industry uses because they can't call all beverages of a certain type 'champagne.' What we usually call 'champagne' in every day speech is sparkling wine. But the region in France where champagne comes from has used that name as a trademark and insisted that any wine not from Champagne cannot be marketed as 'champagne.' It's the carbonation bubbles that make it sparkling wine as opposed to just plain wine. However, some sparkling wine, if it's from Champagne, can be called 'champagne.' Now, sparkling apple cider is a substitute for champagne (actual or just sparkling wine) and has no alcohol.

See this link for more info:

Hope I've helped.

I wanted to know why do some boys act mean and nasty to certain girls after they break up. Like they start saying "What are you looking at?" They also start talking about that girl and they don't speak no more or even look the girls way. (link)
Oh, dear. What happens is those boys start to act like they can't stand you because they don't want anyone to think that you hurt them or that they still care about you - it wouldn't be "manly." So they put on a show of how they got what they wanted and now they couldn't care less about you. These are, in fact, boys. They are too immature to deal with a romance and the ending of that romance as adults, so they act this way. I'm sorry this has happened to you or your friend. Girls mature faster than boys do and there's an awkward gap during which girls in general are more mature than boys of the same age. Eventually, they mostly catch up with us, though. Good luck.

how long does skin fungus take to go away? (link)
It depends on the variety of fungus (like dermatophytes), the location (they like dark and damp), your immune system, and what you treat it with. There are a lot of types of fungus, including jock itch, athlete's foot, and ringworm. There are a great number of over-the-counter treatments. If you use a good, strong treatment, it could take from a few days to about 3 weeks.

What are some good job sites for teens that can help you find a job, besides snagajob.com and groovejob.com?

Please recommend them from experience, or referral from someone else (like a teacher), rather than searching them on the Google, and pasting the links.

Thanks (link)
I would try the local newspaper, especially if they have an online edition, and also Craig'slist.

ok so im going out with this guy and if we are not hanging out he always wants to be on the phone i mean i love hanging out with him 24/7 and i LOVE talking to him on the phone but i am a human and people like there space so sometimes when i need time to my self i ask him if i can get off the phone and hes like .." why ,are you just trying to get rid of me " or he says stupid crap like.." ok whatever bye"
and it makes me so angry because i really like talking to him but it makes me mad that he wont even let me take a shower because he thinks that i am not really trying to take a shower, im trying to get off the phone with him ... how do get off the phone and not start a fight? (link)
OMG. This guy is immature, insecure, and needlessly confrontational. I'd tell him that I can only talk on the phone 1 hour/day. More than that interferes with the things I have to get done. What could you have to talk about on a daily basis that takes more than an hour? Are you just going over the same thing again and again? I'm sure you have things to do, like studying or working or maybe cleaning and laundry. Or maybe other friends? This behavior of his is controlling and desperate. It would be a deal-breaker for me. So I suggest that you talk with him, straight-up, and set limits. If he says that again about trying to get rid of him, I'd giggle and say, "Yeah. I have to [insert task, like change my transmission fluid]. I'll call you tomorrow." If he doesn't take it well and let you go, you know that he doesn't care about your feelings.

I have been getting really bad anxiety lately, and its been keeping me from going to school. When I do go to school its like I'm just trying to get through it and get home...Its really bad, it makes it hard to do my work. I'm failing all my classes...I've never failed anything before. I'm a a-b student. But by the looks of it, I'm going to end up failing almost, if not all my classes. If I'm not there, I cant learn the stuff to do the papers and if I can't go...well then I'm screwed. I'm trying all I can to just squeek by but I don't see that happening with the percentages I have now.

My question is, if I fail my freshman year, will colleges not take me? I intend on doing online schooling next year and doing everything I can to catch up but...I'm really scared. I've always wanted to go to college and now its like...I'm ruining my life and its all going down the drain. So, will colleges not take me because of this? (link)
Your anxiety is negatively affecting your life, so you need to see a doctor for help. There are medications and behavioral interventions which can greatly help you. So take care of your anxiety and the rest will start to fall into place more. Then, when it's time to apply to colleges, many of them require a written essay. You can use your essay to explain how you have overcome challenges and to point out how you've completely turned it around. Then you'll look better, not worse, than the doe-eyed kids who are there because Mommy led them through every step. You're gonna be tough to beat! Take care of yourself.

Okay. It would be something like..

"I want you to hang out with me on my 16th birthday We can go blahblah place." But then when it's soon to happen, they tell me they can't hang out because they have to hang out with their parents..and ditching them would make them angry.

You know.. a really good reason..

Would that be lying or what? I CAN HANG OUT WITH YOU. except..NOT!

It's almost like the person is making the plans themselves.. and they don't mention it to their parents.. so things might not work out..

I'm not sure. Too many friends keep letting me down. (link)
Lying is all about intent. If that person intended to deceive you, then she is lying. If she honestly thought she could hang out with you, but then later her parents said they already had plans with her (which has happened to me a before), then she's not lying. If she honestly thinks that it's a possibility that you could go out and then leads you to believe it's a definite, but without intent to deceive you, I think that's exaggerating and it's being flaky, but it's not exactly lying. It's when she intentionally tells you something she knows to be untrue that it's a lie.

I just heard the saying "drop acid not bombs". I know it is an anti-war saying, but what does drop acid mean? (link)
Dropping acid is using LSD. See this link for more info:

Ok, so yesterday I got my report card for the 2nd marking period. I knew that I didn't do well so I wasn't exactly looking foward to it coming home because my parents are really strict about grades. So I came home and I saw it on the counter. I looked in that direction for a second and thought I saw a C on it. I go in the other room and my dad was like that's bad. My brother then was like what are you talking about. My dad replied nothing. A few minutes later when everyone cleared the room, I decided to go look at it without anyone seeing me. This way I wouldn't get yelled at yet. I went and it was gone. I looked everywhere. I can't find it. It's like my parents are hiding MY grades from ME. I guess I must have done really bad. Should I ask my parents where it is and get yelled at? What do I do? (link)
To offer another perspective from the advice you've received so far, I don't personally think you should demand anything of your parents if you're afraid you'll get yelled at. It's entirely possible that your father put the report card away for a bit so that he can calm down and think of how he can help you. If you're dying to know your grades, see a school counselor or speak with your teachers.

I'm sure that your parents aren't trying to trick you. I bet they're buying time until they can discuss this rationally. You'll likely be much better off if you give them a little time and see if they bring it up soon than if you come home with bad grades and then demand they discuss it with you immediately.

Good luck.

Lately my three brothers and I keep getting sick. And my parents to. Honestly it's kind of annoying me. Between my bros and I, we have either come home sick or have been sick from school on the last 9 school days. That's kinda sad. This weekend we were all getting sick, including my dad. My brothers are on round two of strep, and I got it about two weeks ago. I've had bronchitis that I can't seem to get rid of after 2 doctor visits in the last 2 weeks, including a chest x-ray. Is there anyway to avoid getting sick and get better sooner? (link)
A couple of things: You should make sure your house is very clean. I don't mean pick up your things. I mean everything is clean and light switches, door handles, eating surfaces, and bathrooms have been cleaned with warm water and a bacteriacidal agent like Lysol or PineSol. It sould say "disinfectant" on the bottle. Make sure you clean every surface you touch. Wipe the telephones and the faucet handles. Wipe the fridge handles and the cabinets. Wipe down your computers and mouses (mice?). Sanitize your remote controls. Wipe down any controls, handles, knobs, gear shift, and the steering wheel in your car/s. The next thing is that after you recover from every illness, you should throw away your toothbrush and get a new one. Alternately, you could try using listerine on the toothbrush. Wash your hands often and wash them well : use warm water and soap. Hold your hands lower than your elbows and wash for at least as long as it takes you to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in your head. Infectious disease doctors have told me to wash first, then use hand sanitizer. In a pinch you can just use the hand sanitizer.

That all being said, there are the common sense precautions, such as eating plenty of protein for cellular repair and 'eating a rainbow' of colorful produce every day. Sneeze or cough into your elbow. Dress appropriately to the weather. Clean off gym equipment before you use it. Of course, getting plenty of sleep is also essential to good immune function. Shower daily.

It's hard to get everyone healthy at the same time. I hope you and your family can manage it soon. In order to recover from your bronchitis, use a humidifier and whatever medication your doctor has prescribed, use the above good hygeine tips (the toothbrush one is important), get plenty of rest and fluids, and eat well.

I hope you feel better.

i want to become a nurse and that's what i plan to go to school for but now im looking at dermatology. How would i go about becoming a dermatologist because people don't talk about that much? (link)
Yes. It's four years of college, four years of medical school, and then, if you're chosen for that specialty, you do an internship, then a residency, and then possibly a fellowship. Then you can practice on your own. A little advice that you didn't ask for? You can become an aesthetician as a nurse, and they can do a lot of derm procedures in some states, such as botox injections and dermabrasion and collagen injection. They can work in medical spas and make a good deal of money, I believe. You should try to get a BSN, not just an associate's. That's my opinion.

how long does it take for the food in your stomach to go through your intestines and you poop it out? (link)
It differs by the person and by the time of day. Average gastric emptying (tranist from the stomach to the small intestine) is 28 minutes, but from there it can take hours or days. There is a reflex that causes a lot of people to have to move their bowels within about 1/2 hour after eating. If it happened a standard time after we eat something, we'd probably all poop 3-4 times a day (once for each meal we eat). Instead, the stool tends to collect over a period which ranges from a few hours to a few days, depending on our bodies, and evacuates all at once.

Why does it hurt the keep having sex with my husband after I get off once? He gets mad because I cant keep going...
21 married and feeling helpless....... (link)
After an orgasm, your nerves are hyperstimulated and can be very tender for a bit. I assume you're using plenty of lube. I guess if you could try to take it slower or stop when you're on the verge, you could delay orgasm. If not, try just waiting after orgasm for a little while, with him inside you (careful that he doesn't lose his errection if you use condoms) and the tenderness can go away after a little bit.

my cat is like wheezing. it sounds like he's snoring but you can tell that his nose is like stuffy. is it normal or could he be really sick? btw- he's an indoor/outdoor cat and he's been outside a lot lately and it's super cold out. (link)
Cats are succeptible to upper respiratory infections, which are like human colds. They can turn into pneumonia and become serious quickly. I had a cat die due to this, even though I took her to the vet. You need to take your pet to the vet to be checked out. Also, watch to see if he's eating, drinking, and using the litter box. If he is lethargic (tired-acting, not active or playful), you should definitely take him in.

What does 'bubble butt' mean? (link)
It means you have round, protruding butt cheeks.

what should i take in 10th grade...french or spanish? whaterver i choose i want to take all 3 yrs cause its what a colleg will look for. so i want to have an impressive resame. what will look better 3 yrs of french or spanish? thanks (link)
Depending on the part of the country you're in and what your future goals are, choose the most practical. Here in Texas, I'd say that Spanish is a much better choice because it leads to higher employability. If you are near Quebec, or want to join the World Health Organization, however, you may want to study French. One tip is that it didn't work well for me to study both at the same time. Elle is French for 'her' and El is Spanish for 'him.' It was confusing.

Bon chance,

i don't get borderline personality disorder

winona ryder's character seemed normal to me in Girl, Interrupted (link)
If you read the book you know that she's a lot more screwed up than the movie portrays her. But there's still the matter of her swallowing pills and drinking to the point of a suicide gesture, her weird relationship with her boyfriend, her associating with the psychopath Julie, and her running away from the hospital. That stuff is all kind of abnormal, but you don't see how her thought processes were disturbed in the movie.

Check this out for an explanation of BPD:

i feel so bloated! i have been bloated for about a month now and its really unconfertable! i just had my period so i know im not preggo , i have been checked for stds and im clean..i just dont understand what is making me so unconfertable ..... is there anything i can take to feel better? (link)
You can try a mild diuretic like you can find in Midol. Watch your salt intake - don't eat chips or things with a lot of salt on them and watch out for processed foods like hot dogs.

Two things to think about:

How are your bowels? A lot of people with irritable bowels (usually alternating constipation and diarrhea, but some have mostly constipation) have bloating, gas, and pain.

Have you seen an OB/GYN lately? Bloating can be a symptom of ovarian cancer, but it's pretty rare. See a doctor if you can't explain it otherwise.

Good luck,

Sabine

The skin on my face is SO flakey and dry. Whenever I put my coverup on (liquid), it looks awful after about 2 hours. Loads of little flakes of skin literally come off whenever I touch my face. I apply a face lotion at night and even before I apply the coverup...but my face is always terribly dry. What can I do to cure this dry skin? (link)
Exfoliate with a moist cloth. If that doesn't get the flaky skin off, use a gentle exfoliant, such as St. Ive's Appricot scrub. Try using that once a day, during or right after your shower. Then immediately apply moisturizer. Allow that to dry, then apply your foundation makeup. You can try to find makeup that has moisturizers in it, if you need. Neutrogena is a great brand, IMO. If this doesn't work, I would see a dermatologist to get his/her recommendations.

well im currently looking for another job but cant seem to get anywhere. ive turned in about 4 applications at places but no one calls back. the only reason i got my last job was because they pretty much just hired everyone who applied for the grand opening, but then cut the team down by half [which is why im now unemployed even though i only got to work 3 days]. when i turn in applications i smile, im friendly, and im polite but i need something thatll set me off from other people i guess becuase on friday i put an application in with the manager at this bbq place that i REALLY want to work at but they havent called soo im plannin on callin them sometime this week to ask if it was looked over. but how can i show myself as a nice, good worker so ill get hired? not just for this job but others as well. thanks (link)
If you're able, dress well, like in a long-sleeved dress shirt and dockers and go in to the business with a copy of your resume. Ask to speak with the manager (don't go in when they're busy). Let him/her know that you applied and you would really like to speak with him/her about the opening. If the position is already filled, smile, thank the manager, and ask whether there's something on your resume (like a typo) or if there is any reason he can give as to why you weren't the top candidate. Good luck.
