Question Posted Wednesday February 14 2007, 1:29 pm
Lately my three brothers and I keep getting sick. And my parents to. Honestly it's kind of annoying me. Between my bros and I, we have either come home sick or have been sick from school on the last 9 school days. That's kinda sad. This weekend we were all getting sick, including my dad. My brothers are on round two of strep, and I got it about two weeks ago. I've had bronchitis that I can't seem to get rid of after 2 doctor visits in the last 2 weeks, including a chest x-ray. Is there anyway to avoid getting sick and get better sooner?

Well, eat a lot of soup and drink orange juice. Also, eat alot and sleep all day to make sure you rest and all the vitamins from the soup and juice can work. To avoid getting sick, clean and air out our house, and keep warm. Also, wash your hands a lot and clean stuff like doorknobs and sink handles, ect., you know, things that get touched a lot but barely ever cleaned, with disinfeting stuff such as lysol or clorox. Most importantly, remind everyone not to put their hands near their mouth when they are at school/work. Good luck. Hope you feel better! ♥ Kathleen [ imxkathleenx3's advice column | Ask imxkathleenx3 A Question ]
uisforukelele answered Wednesday February 14 2007, 5:21 pm: i've been sick recently, too. here's what helps me get better:
wash hands frequently
take vitamins
drink orange juice
go to bed relatively early
keep things like television remote, laptop keys, ipod, cell phone, etc. sanitized
don't hang around sick people (i know you can't help it if they're your family, but i mean like at school)
also, try to get more fresh air. this is going to sound dumb, but people don't get sick from being outside. they get sick from being inside so much. people get sick more in the winter because they're scared of getting sick by being outside, so they stay inside. i mean, don't camp out in your backyard or anything, but try to go on a walk every now and then. make sure you eat relatively healthy stuff and you should get better soon. Sabine answered Wednesday February 14 2007, 3:56 pm: A couple of things: You should make sure your house is very clean. I don't mean pick up your things. I mean everything is clean and light switches, door handles, eating surfaces, and bathrooms have been cleaned with warm water and a bacteriacidal agent like Lysol or PineSol. It sould say "disinfectant" on the bottle. Make sure you clean every surface you touch. Wipe the telephones and the faucet handles. Wipe the fridge handles and the cabinets. Wipe down your computers and mouses (mice?). Sanitize your remote controls. Wipe down any controls, handles, knobs, gear shift, and the steering wheel in your car/s. The next thing is that after you recover from every illness, you should throw away your toothbrush and get a new one. Alternately, you could try using listerine on the toothbrush. Wash your hands often and wash them well : use warm water and soap. Hold your hands lower than your elbows and wash for at least as long as it takes you to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in your head. Infectious disease doctors have told me to wash first, then use hand sanitizer. In a pinch you can just use the hand sanitizer.
That all being said, there are the common sense precautions, such as eating plenty of protein for cellular repair and 'eating a rainbow' of colorful produce every day. Sneeze or cough into your elbow. Dress appropriately to the weather. Clean off gym equipment before you use it. Of course, getting plenty of sleep is also essential to good immune function. Shower daily.
It's hard to get everyone healthy at the same time. I hope you and your family can manage it soon. In order to recover from your bronchitis, use a humidifier and whatever medication your doctor has prescribed, use the above good hygeine tips (the toothbrush one is important), get plenty of rest and fluids, and eat well.
runawayxlove answered Wednesday February 14 2007, 3:43 pm: hey, as for getting better sooner see a doctor and get some medicine. stick with taking it if you want faster results. also when you guys are sick DONT over exert yourselfs. you need to stay put and in bed as much as you can for fast recoveries. make sure that there is plenty of lisol in the house and make sure that you spray it frequently. keep hand sanitizer and wash your hands as much as possible. keep your distance from the sick people but dont shut them out. Brandi_S answered Wednesday February 14 2007, 3:17 pm: Avoid those around you who are sick. There is, what, 5 people in your household? When one gets sick, it makes it's rounds to everyone else. It especially sucks when one sickness is finally making it's way out the door and then another comes in on it's heels.
You don't have to just lock yourself in a room. Wash your hands FREQUENTLY. Especially before eating, drinking, or touching your face/mouth. Don't sit right next to some one who is sick. Sit across the room. That is about the best way I can tell you to avoid it.
As for getting better sooner, you have to just let it run it's course. If your bronchitis doesn't clear up, go back to the doctor. If need be, seek a second opinion from another doctor. There may be something your doctor is missing. [ Brandi_S's advice column | Ask Brandi_S A Question ]
