Q: Can you get booted for poking fun at a question? Just wondering.
If you make fun of every question, and it annoys people, we'll seriously consider it.

Q: Do you log peoples IP address?
yes.

Q: I am just wondering, can people see what questions you have asked, or what questions people ask?? please tell me cause I might be a little embarrassed to let people know that
No, they can't see it. We do keep track of who asks what questions, just in case someone is abusing the system we can ban them, but only site administrators have access to this information and we're not going to hunt you down just for fun or anything.

Q: I keep seeing the same questions appear over and over. I was wondering if it would work to have a search engine for Frequently Asked Advice Questions, with key words. Or is there an advantage in having the same questions asked? I know people appreciate an individual answer, and there are new columnists, but I really hesitate to answer the same question I have seen 10 times before.
Yes, a search tool is needed right now, we're working on it. For now, we hope that the categories will help.

Q: Umm... There are like a ton of posts on the question page but I 'm sorta worried because I really didn't think ur sopposed to to this on this site. I mean what is wrong with this person? I'm just letting you know if you didn't see it.it just worrys me. people that are on the internet and are like that scare me.
I'm just a worried advice columnist.
I've given more people the power to delete questions, so hopefully this sort of thing won't happen too often. thanks!

Q: If I edit an answer I have given after it has been posted, does an email get sent to the person asking the question telling them a question has been edited? I find myself sometimes adjusting wording or spelling, but I won't bother so much if it is giving people email they don't need?
No, you can edit away. E-mails just get sent out when you first answer the question, and that's only if the person has their profile set to e-mail them when they get an answer.

Q: hey, i asked you some questions a while back and am asking some more questions agian.
why do some advice columnsts have more than just 3 favorite categories? because im just wondering why.
your answer would be nice
sincerely
kat
There aren't any columnists with more than three favorite categories, it's impossible. Seriously! If you see one, let me know, I'm just as curious about how they did it as you are.

Q: I have 3 Questions.
1. I signed in one day and it said I had 2 new questions in my inbox but when I went to my inbox it said I had none unread questions. I'm lost. I don't know if I really had questions or it was just a glitch.
2.Can I respond to feedback? I haven't been given any feedback but that isn't the point.
3.Can I delete questions I have asked? I'm just wondering because its really hard to have all my questions I've asked there. I would like to have abiltiy to delete questions I've asked if I want to.
Thanks for reading this and it really be helpfull if you could answer all three of my questions.
Thanks again
Sincerely
Kathleen

I'll answer but you might not like it too much :)

1) we had someone going insane and spamming us so we deleted their questions without telling anyone (but them). that would account for your inbox fluke. shouldn't happen too often.

2) there is not yet a system in place to respond to feedback.

3) You can't delete questions, because that would delete them off people's advice columns. Do you think there's just too many questions showing on the "your questions" page, is that the deal?

Q: How long does it take for a question to post? I am wondering if my recent question dissappeared again.
Nope, no time lag. As soon as you post a question it should show on the pages. The only questions we've been deleting lately were duplicates of questions already asked. You should be able to see all your questions by clicking the "Your Questions" link on the side there.

Q: I started to answer a question in the sex category (about how to give a good blow job) then realized I would have to be very graphic. In fact, to answer that question would require detail bordering on pornographic. Does Advicenators have guidelines about sexual content?
Our terms of service forbid content that is obscene or profane. Basically, if you're being graphic for educational reasons that's fine. If you're being graphic for shock value there might be a problem. Since it's your advice column and we want people to express themselves, we probably won't do anything unless people are really offended.

Q: I found to my shock that there's already an on-line columnist with the last name Scarlett. In order to avoid any trademark infringement I'd like to change my user name to something else; do I re-register in order to do this?

Thanks,

Scarlett_Redd
just drop me an e-mail ( admin@advicenators.com ) and I can change it for you. It'll mess with the URL for your advice column but it can be done.

Q: When applying for an advicenators advice column is it possible to have a select few columnists that 'screen' the applicants (kinda like how spacefem.com was a lonnnnng time ago) in order to weed out losers *ahem* less adequate columnists?

Maybe ask for credentials, a little bit about themselves that they wish to share, answer some trial advice questions to get a handle on their ideas?

Then the application can go to a special page that a few competent columnists can review them and if a certain number agree then the person becomes a columnist?

It just seems so easy to become one with the click of the button.
Hopefully people will be rating the advice they get from different people, so as we get lots of rated advice we'll make that information available and people can "weed out" the less-than-talented columnists. If you want to help out, make sure you're asking questions, the ratings you give to people will be a good way to voice your opinion.

We want it to be easy to be an advice columnist and just have to keep hoping that at least some of the advice will be good, that's the thing.

Q: Got two e-mails today stating that I had new questions on the site. However, following the link in the first e-mail did not bring up a question despite my inbox showing two new messages. Clicking on the inbox link caused them both to disappear while none of the questions showed up.

The relevant URLs are:

http://advicenators.com/qview.php?q=132186
http://advicenators.com/qview.php?q=132185
We had to delete some questions due to terms of service violations yesterday, and there's not currently a way to notify people of this. I'm guessing that's what those questions were. We're still having problems with people getting e-mails about questions with URLs that don't even include the question ID but these are valid URLs so I don't think that was the problem.

This shouldn't happen very often. We're working on a way to correct it.

Q: If people send you rude comments in your feedback, what do you do? This hasn't happened, I was just wondering.
Hopefully if you give good advice, you won't get many rude comments. But if you feel like someone is out to get you and is leaving really rude things, you can let us know. Only registered users can leave feedback and you'd have to answer their questions to give them the right to leave it. Also, even though all feedback and questions are anonymous, we store user numbers and can trace back who said what if something is really bad. We'll see how well that works for a while.

Q: I suggested this recently. Maybe I just didn't notice it was always there. Anyways, it's great, because now I can let people know I appreciate their good advice. Thanks :-)
Just added it today... you weren't the only person who suggested it but I held off for a while because it was a big thing to add. Anyway it's here now so feedback away!

Q: why dont u have a column where kids can give advice.without charge.
Well, the whole site is without charge so I'm going to assume you're complaining that we don't let kids on this site. This is because federal COPPA laws restrict collecting contact information from children under 13 without parental consent. Since this website run by an American and hosted by an American company, we are required to comply with these guidelines.

Q: I have tried to login, register, left you my email and searched long and continuous and cant seem to get into your advice site. I give up. arithmetic450@yahoo.com
I'm really sorry about this. What do you mean, "can't get into" the site? Are you able to ask a question? There are many parts of the site... what sort of errors are you getting? Is it just logging you out all the time or what?

Q: I think you should have a category titled pregnancy for soon-to-be mothers or teens in trouble...I think it would help a lot for everybody and many people may be able to give very good advice.
Hope you consider it!
Sincerely,
Advicenator
I think we'll let the sexual health and parenthood topics hold those for now, but it's a good suggestion. I'll keep it in mind.

Q: I'm a freelance writer and I write a site and newsletter about writing. I'd be glad to give advice to others starting out. It's not available as a category here though. I put in Internet instead but I don't have a lot of all around knowledge about the Internet, just webmastering really. I'm not a programmer.

Thanks,

Laura
Writing... interesting! I added it as a topic here: http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?t=7

... we'll see how it goes.

(Note: Writing category removed due to massive posting of bad poetry.)

Q: Hello,

I would like to know if a Category could be added under Health & Fitness which could detail help for Drug Addiction or Alcoholism (preferably both together)...possibly an "Addiction(s)" category? The actual category "title" could be discussed further if necessary.
Please let me know when you get a chance.

Thank you.

Butterfly
I like it. Category added here. I'm still not sure "addictions" is the best name for it but I couldn't think about anything else.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.

Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.

2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.

3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.

If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.

Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)

If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
