Q: I have question.
How do you become a higher moderater? I'm not asking to become a higher on but I was wondering how you decide to let other advicenators be rank 2's and 3's? For a while I waqs conistaly ranking questions. and I mean it was non-stop (when there was all the "dear alcia" questions) I finaly quit because there just became too many questions to rate. one reason I was rating so much was to see if that was a way that you mad advicenators 1's 2's and 3's. guess its not.

I would like you answer this question. I don't think its bad. i tryed to spell all my words right. Please don't rejest it like you do all my other questions to you.
sincerely

One moderators are made automatically but level II mods are only added if I feel like we need more. Right now, all the ones that are there are active and doing a pretty good job, so we don't need any more. When we do, I'll look at level I mods who've been around for a while, read their advice columns and see who's a good example for people to turn to.

And there's only one level III mod: me.

Q: Would it be possible to set up a chat room, possibly through mIRC, so that advicenators could come in and chat as one. Right now this place is more of a disjointed group of people all independent on advice giving, but I believe it could be different. If advice givers came together as a group and maybe had direct contact with each other outside of asking questions to each others column, then maybe people wouldn't leave their accounts idle after getting bored after a few days.

Also, this might help in the event of 'emergency advice' where if someone really needed help, they might pop into the chat room and see if anyone is in there.

Kinda a mishmash of thoughts.
hm. Well, since we still have less than 1000 members I didn't think there were enough people to warrant a chat room, but questions seem to be going fast lately so maybe it'd work. I could totally link to an IRC one like we've got on spacefem.

I don't really want to run it though, that's the thing. someone who's good with IRC drop me an e-mail.

Q: i just read the help FAQ. based on the criteria there, i think questions should probably be more strictly ranked to weed out junk. also, some of the columnists should be held to rules of grammar and such.
Questions are ranked by our moderator team. We leave it up to individuals to rank questions. Questions are ranked as strictly as the majority wants to see them ranked.

Q: Uh...my average ratings still aren't updating and neither is how many times i've been rated. I'm still under cr8zymonkeyluv07
You don't get rated on every single question. Annonymous users can't give ratings, and sometimes people just don't feel like it.

Q: Does advicenators have a panthlet or a magizine that anyone can see or order if you know what I mean ?
I'm not sure what you mean, so I don't think we have what you're talking about :) We're not published in print right now. If anyone has ideas about how something like that would work, I'd welcome input.

Q: may i change the name under which i login (also the name of my column, of course) without chaning my e-mail address or any other setting?
No, names are part of your column URL and can't change.

Q: Why is it when someone (Like That one girl. Alicia I think.) recieves a question directed to her column and doesn't respond, it gets sent to the pool. Shouldn't it just get deleted. If they wanted everyone's feedback on something, they would just send it directly to the pool. I think if someone sends someone else the question should be deleted instead of being sent to the pool after a certain amount of time. And if there is a way of getting your question deleted instead of sent to the pool, please announce how somewhere. Like on the homepage. All of this is because what's her face's questions occationally cludder the pool, and something directed to a certain person might not make sense to others. Thank you for your time.
I've changed the question answer page so the "move to pool" box is unchecked by default. Hopefully this will help.

Q: I logged in and it say's i've been banned? What did i do to be banned and how do i fix it?
Please send an e-mail to admin@advicenators.com with your username and I'll look into restoring your account.

Q: y when u ask ?n that r important the damnn webstie bands u
WHAT???

Q: If you click on "View Feedback" on my advice column, it says I've been rated three times (all three times were a five rating,) but if you look on the main page, it says I've only been rated once. What's going on?
If the ratings apply to questions that were asked more than thirty days ago, they don't get counted.

Q: Hi I wuz wondering if you could close my advice column because there have been these kids that I know who keep on writing CRUEL messages to me and when i read them I was crying. I can't stop their messages from coming so could you please just shut my site?????
We don't shut down advice columns, that can create database errors. If you really don't want access, just shut off e-mail alerts and stop coming to the site, that's all you can do.

Q: For some reason i was banned and i dont know what i did. My account is Sunkistsarah....please tell me what happened.
Thank you.
Because all your questions were just about how beautiful "alicia" is, and I keep getting complaints about people talking about "alicia" because nobody knows who she is or what she's doing, just that she's opened quite a few accounts here lately. I'll restore your account, but please use it for something worthwhile.

Q: Would you consider allowing one to have more than three favorite categories sometime in the future?
It's possible. But a lot of people like it the way it is, because when visitors search for columnists "by category", they're really seeing the columnists who love that particular category. You can't list yourself everywhere, you have to choose, so they're getting the cream of the crop.

What's more likely is that we'll add a search feature that lets you pick a lot of different categories, and you'll be able to save that search as your own. It's all in the works.

Q: YOU NEED TO SHOW EACH AND EVERY COLUMNIST. ALSO YOU SHOULD SHOW PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE SENDING THERE QUESTION TO LIKE ALLSTAR#1 HAS RECIEVED YOUR MAIL OR SOMETHING

HOLLA
What do you mean? We do show each and every columnist. You're not a columnist until you answer five questions... that's not really a difficult number to get to.

Q: where do i get my link for my page @?
Left side, fourth section, "Your Advice Column".

Q: what are the stars for by the colunist names?dont mean to sound stupid..lol im just curious...thanks
Overall rating. Whenever a columnist answers one of your questions, you'll see a little "rate this answer" when viewing their response. You can click one of the numbers to contribute to their rating.

Q: I noticed recently that you have added options in the search for age and gender. Do you have to read each question and add that to the search? Wouldn't it make it easier if in the "Ask a question" section there were optional drop down boxes for gender and age like there is for category? Maybe a section for columnist name could be added since columnists ask questions then assume we know who they are.
Since everyone has to register to ask public questions and most people fill out their profiles, age and gender information is already in the database. We store user ids and know who's asking each question.... I mean, if the site already knows who you are, there's no reason for us to have another drop box asking people their age again every time they ask a question.

We want to keep questions annonymous and not show who's asking what. Questioners can include whatever information they want to in their question, we won't require more.

Q: i was wonderin if u could make this deal that answers the questions wen we aren't there by sayin somethin it thinks we would say see we could type some advise to give to people that ask 4 advise wen were not on so the computer could answer it atimatically.

e-mail me at 8:00 pm today at edt_09@yahoo.com
to tell me wat u think of my idea
Well, if I could program in answers, we wouldn't really need columnists, would we?

Q: I am a level 1 moderater and also one of the highest rated advicenators.I was just wondering how you would become a Level 2 moderater? I think I know but I'm not positive so I'd appreciate it if you could tell me!
I have to make you one. We don't really need any right now, but if we did I'd review the top level 1 mods and see who I liked the best and promote them. I don't plan on promoting anyone any time soon, since I like to keep the numbers down as much as possible.

Q: can you help me be a moderator i will help you in any way possibble and i'm really trustworthy and responsible please help me be a level 1.

sincerel,
advise4u
It's totally based on how many questions you answer, how long you've been a member, and your rating. Be patient.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.

Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.

2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.

3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.

If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.

Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)

If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
