Q: How is it that all the pages are filled with the same question. Not duplicates, THE SAME QUESTION. I did an experiment and answered one, and the answer went to all of them. Thank you.

Q: Sorry to bother you yet again, but I have a problem with the fact that these questions have to be okayed before being posted in the pool. It's a great idea considering the enormous amount of crappy questions that stream through here, but it has it's flaws. It's probably not a major problem for the entire group, but it is with me. I'm pretty sure I'm an insomniac by choice, so I answer most of the questions really late at night, or really early in the morning. I recently I've discovered that there weren't any questions being asked at that time, which was weird because they normally are. around 8:00 or 9:00 AM, a flood of questions came in, filling a few pages. They were mostly questions from the night before. Some people sent duplicates of questions (Though I'm not sure why the duplicates were posted. Unless a different person posted the second unaware of the first) because there question wasn't immediately answered. Others needed help immediately (Couldn't get to sleep, etc). I wasn't sure if you wanted to adjust the methods of screening questions or what.

I know what you mean. I think it's annoying too. I was just about to get rid of the approval system, but then we got a flood from some ahole telling us all how to get-rich-quick and I was so frustrated I just couldn't bring myself to let questions show up automatically again.
Most of the time it works fine, because there are lots of level II mods now. other times it stinks. we're working out kinks - I need to think up some way for a question to just show up if it's three hours old, yup, that's what I think we need.

Q: why is my question no longer posted, i asked a questions and it said i waws probably under investigation, or there was a duplicate or sumthing like that
what i asked was... what does it mean to clear history on the computer? so i was just wondering what was up with that? and why is it no longer posted

You're only under investigation if you have a lot of deleted questions.
Questions are deleted if at least three moderators give it the lowest rating (one). You might read this:
http://advicenators.com/faq.php?mode=question_ranking
It tells a bit about what sort of questions get low ratings and how you can avoid that happening to yours.

Q: I have two questions:
1. There are a lot of people asking how to put music on their columns. When answering these, should they be told that they aren't allowed to?
2. In the mod guidelines it says level 2 mods can create/authorise level 1 mods, but how does one go about this? Do we just suggest them to the admin, or is there a little button somewhere?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
1) I don't care, they can put music on there if they want to. I might add an FAQ about how it's stupid, but when it comes to columns, I don't really care how stupid people get.
2) I forgot about that, it was going to be a feature at one time but it's not. level I mods are activated automatically by the system. sorry about that one.

Q: I'm assuming that you don't just chose anyone whose been here awhile. Some have been around since 2003 and are still only level 1. I was curious as to what you look for in a level 2 admin? I'm not trying to get you to look at my column and make me one, I only give out average advice and I doubt you're looking for anymore anyway (Level 2's popped up quickly from what I've seen), I was just wondering what you look for. I'm hoping it's not what's posted on the home page. Rating questions can't be what you are looking for. I'm hoping you're not actually trying to get people to rate as many questions as possible, as opposed to actually answering them. I only rate a question if it's 1 of 2 things: A really good question, or a really bad one. I sincerely hope this isn't just to get half of the admins fighting for your approval by rating every question. So how do you determine whose good enough to join? I was away while the whole rate as many as you can post came up. Hope this doesn't appear too rude, that wasn't my intention.

As much as we love all the hard-working people on advicenators, level II mods have a lot to do so we want to use people who do a lot of stuff. I want to keep the list of level II mods low, so there's no point in holding up a spot with someone who only visits once a week and answers a question. I mean, those people are great, we love them, but they aren't cut out for more moderator responsibilities.
To promote level II mods, I look at who's been rating questions first. I look at who on that list has been a member for a good month or two. I read through their advice and make sure they know english. I look at their questions to make sure they don't abuse the question system. I look at what they rate questions to make sure they understand what's a good question and what isn't.
Question rating is really important, we use it to pick featured questions and even delete questions off the site when they're that bad. You don't personally have to rate every question, but every question needs rated, I'm trying to make that clear to people.
I promote people for the good of the site, not because they personally deserve it.

Q: What is with the topics? Every time I go to the "Advice Topics" page it takes me there and I choose a topic and all the questions are all mixed. I can't tell which is new or not. I know that they are being mixed because some are REALLY old. I don't like it because I'm going to that topic because it has new questions and I want to answer the new questions not the old ones. It's even the same on the "View Questions" page. I really would rather to have it back the normal way. Am I the only one that this happening too? please tell me if I'm not because then I will go to the admin.
Please answer.

When you're at the question page click "More options...". The pick your topic and "Newest questions first" from the search page and you'll see the new questions.
As for questions being mixed up within topics... that's just because people suck and chosing what topic their question fits in.

You are not allowed to have multiple accounts. You never were allowed to have multiple accounts. Most of the time, we don't notice, but when you forget one of your passwords don't come whining to us for help - you didn't follow the rules, this is a penalty.

It doesn't matter how many questions you answer, it's how good your advice is and how long you've been a member. We review each member individually.

Q: I have a lot of respect for you guys but this new 'reviewing ever question before it gets shown' system really isn't working. there are hardly any questions to answer and it takes so loooong for questions to be displayed. A lot of your members including myself are unhappy with this new system and i think you should change it back to how it was. i mean, what if you need advice quickly but your question doesn't come up for 10 hours? (yes one time there were NO new questions for 10 HOURS)

The 10 hour thing was one day because of an error, give me a break! Anyway, I'll consider your comment.

i hope u take my suggestion into consideration

Advice columnists pride themselves on having lots of questions answered on their pages. They wouldn't like it if I let people just delete questions everywhere.

This advice column is for suggestions, comments, or error reporting about advicenators. If you'd like to suggest a new category, ask me a question. If you'd like to whine, bitch, or complain about advicenators, you may whine, bitch, or complain to me.
Three rules though:
1) Do not ask me for life advice. We have several thousand other members that do that.
2) Do not ask for help, or ask how to do something, or ask about
how something on the site works, unless you've read every word of our help pages and you're sure it's not addressed there.
3) Do not ask me to ban someone or investigate abuse. We have an entire abuse system set up for that.
If you disobey one of these rules, I'll delete your question.
Some guidelines about suggestions:
If you offer a suggestion that I find interesting, I might just ignore your question so it stays in my inbox as a reminder of something to do. Don't be upset that I don't answer you, and don't delete your questions (because then I'll forget!)
If you have three suggestions, please ask three separate questions, that way I can address each one individually. It's a real pain when people ask one question with like twenty different topics in it; I can't keep them straight.
