I am 19 years old, female, from a family background of muslims (surprise, surprise).

I'm pretty much not allowed to wear what I want because everything I want to wear is considered inappropriate.

For example, yesterday I wanted to wear a skirt that is PAST knee-length, and only shows the lower shin area... which is half way to the knees. No big deal, right? Wrong! My mom just looked at me with this shocked look in her eyes, and said that we're going on a family picnic and that it's just not nice or appropriate.

And then she started drilling me on how my clothing is not appropriate or "long enough". She wants me to find tops that are like up to my knees. Like seriously? seriously?

And then she continues to tell me how my cousins also think my clothing is inappropriate as well since one of them called her and told her that I was wearing inappropriate clothing and that she did not feel comfortable.

And this cousin of mine wears a burqa that covers her face so clearly we both have different ideas on what is appropriate.

Last time, I went to a sleepover at her house. And when I got dressed to go to the mall, she started yelling at me for my clothing. I was wearing chiffon top with a tank top underneath, but from the back I guess the tank was low that you could see my bra straps so she started freaking out, and yelling at me. And telling me that what I'm wearing is not appropriate, and I can't wear what I want to because it's not appropriate, and that I'm at her house. And when I told her I was wearing a tank top underneath, she called me liar. Until I ripped it out from underneath to show her. Which actually made her shut up with an "Oh..."

Anyways, I'm angry, frustrated and really annoyed. I'm 19 years old, I think I'm old enough to make decisions on what I want to wear without having people attack me or belittle me because it's not up to their standards.

I usually don't say anything or argue back to my cousin out of respect, and because we're really close. But honestly now, I don't think I'm interested in having to deal with her. She's a total bitch in general, and starts arguments for no reason.

Anyways, for the future. Would it be better for me to confront her and tell her to back off and mind her own business?





Her upbringing sounds much stricter than yours, therefore I'm assuming that your aunt and uncle brought her up that way to believe that any skin is inappropriate. Next time she says something, explain that you are not showing anything inappropriate and that it is your decision how you dress. However, just remember that your mom was also brought up in a strict household so remember respect. The respect will always remain as long as you don't have an attitude and listen to her as well.

Hello im 18, female. well me and my ex boyfriend dated for around 1 year, and we had a break like 2 weeks ago, then we got back. but he finished it with me :(
Basically i always tell my boyfriend everything, and on saturday night he found out something about me from when i was 14, (sexual) and well i didnt tell him, he got really put off and told me that im a liar, he said that he dont trust me.
Yet i tried to explain myself and nothing, he said that it 'grim' being with a liar :( how without any trust we wont work. But honestly theres just certain things i cant always tell people.
I love him, im his first love our break up has been so hard when he said 'were finished' :'( i dont know whether he regrets it or not. But it hurts like hell, i have no idea if we'll ever get back, i have lied to him before , but i always fight for this rs to make it right, i know i committed a mistake but il do anything to make it right.
we aint spoken since he ended it... do u think it hurts him that he ended it? like i know he loves me, everything was going so amazing when we got back :'(

You should explain your side of things. Tell him that you're usually closed off about certain intimate details about your life and that it's difficult to share them with people. You didn't necessarily lie, you just didn't tell him every single detail. He can't expect you to list off every detail about your life, it should just come up in conversation and you mention it. Anyway, I'm sure it hurts him inside, and you both feel upset. Sit down and talk to him, and see how it ends up. In the end, if you don't end up together, you have to learn from it and move on. It will hurt, a lot, but he might not be who you end up with, and that's okay. Just be honest, and see if you can work it out.

If it doesn't bother you, ignore it. Guys get boners about 10 times a day, it just happens. If you like the guy and want to do more, go ahead. Just start kissing and it will progress from there. Don't worry about it though, it's completely natural.

Sorry that it would be long. But please have patience reading this. I am 25. I met this guy when I had my vacation in Europe last year. We fell in love with each other and spent 3 months almost together. When I went back to my homeland, I just found out that I am pregnant. When my stepfather learned about it, he was really mad and said really hurtful words towards me and my fiance. I accepted everything. Good thing my stepfather lives in different country, so we just talk thru email. He's mad that I got pregnant without having savings yet same with my fiance and because my fiance is a Moslim. He is really a good guy, responsible, loving and the sweetest guy Ive ever met. My stepfather hates Moslims, he's very judgemental and really strict. He paid for me since I was 11 until before I got pregnant. That's why he is really controlling towards me. I don't think that he really sees me as a daughter, I think more of an investment. There was a time too that he had bad intention towards me, he touched my breast few years back. It didn't happen again after I confronted him about it. But I just don't feel really comfortable everytime my stepfather is around.

I gave birth to a healthy cute baby girl and he's still mad. When my fiance and I decided to get married next year, my stepfather really disagrees. He is the most negative person on earth. Since I got pregnant, until now, he sends email to my mother about his negativity towards me and my fiance, it stresses my mum already. I understand that he wants me to marry a guy who has savings and an own house but my fiance is doing his best for me and our daughter. We are planning to bring me and our daughter in his country when everything is stable already. He talks like my fiance is a criminal or something, as if he knows him. But he just saw him one time. What really insulted me is when my stepfather asked me thru email "are you that cheap?" I never felt insulted my whole life. I told him I'm not gonna read his emails anymore. And that I don't feel like he sees me as a daughter. You wouldn't tell your daughter, are you that cheap? I respect the man but I have enough. He cant control me my whole life and I want to decide for myself. Im gonna choose on whom to marry, not him.

I just want how you guys think about this. At the end of the day, of course, I'll still stick on my decision. Thanks in advance.

Honestly your stepfather has problems. Looking at your child in a sexual manner is not acceptable, at ALL. Do your best to distance yourself from him. I know you said that he paid for your upbringing but he sounds like an awful man. It's your life and when it comes down to it, your happiness is all that matters. You can definitely raise your daughter in a great and loving family atmosphere and I wish the best for you. Honestly, look at teen mothers who accidentally get pregnant just like you. They struggled and got through it, and so can you. However, lucky for you, you're even more mature and have more knowledge under your belt. I hope you do well in your life and just love your child.

Why when you love someone so much and you and this person have been through just about everything together do they just expect for you to just give up so easy bc they did? How do you give up on the one person you love most?

I've been in a similar situation to yours, and unfortunately, there is no happy ending. I had to sit back and assess my relationship with this boy. He was no good for me, and I had to look at the cons that happened in the relationship and move on. It's the hardest thing to move on from someone that you care about, however, it's the only thing to do if you want to move on. Stop trying to think about them, delete them out of your phone, don't keep yourself updated on their life, and busy yourself with something else. Take up a hobby, and be open to new people in your life. You WILL find someone who makes you just as happy (or even happier) and it will be a huge relief. You'll always care about them but can't live your life in their shadow.

I'm a single dad with custody of two kids 8 and 9. I met a woman over the internet, let's call her Carol, and I love her very much. She has everything that I want in a woman except she has little money, and a tiny bit overweight (I can handle with the weight issue). We both want to marry. Carol is divorced, she has two daughters 14 and 5. She lives in the Caribbean and we talk almost every day on skype.

I told her many times that I cannot afford a family of six on my salary. She tells me that if we love each other it doesn't matter b/c we can solve any problem. She's willing to look for a job to make it work.

Carol is not a skilled worker, she didn't finish college, and I can't imagine how she can contribute anything significant to the cost of managing the household. I'm afraid that if marry her and try to support a family of six on my salary that we all might fall on hard times; I'll lose everything that I've worked for.

She insists that money doesn't matter and I should follow my heart. I told her that we can get married in 2013, but I have ice cold feet.

Do I follow my heart and overcome, or do I follow my brain and stay alone? I'm really torn between the two decisions because she really is good woman.

I'm not married, nor have I ever been. I'm currently a student. However, my personal opinion about love can be used for any age group. If you love one another, marriage is not necessary. I know many neighbors of mine who have divorced and have been with a new significant other for 5 years and counting. They are happy as ever, but they both have their own families. There is no need to get married so you have to support her. If love is there, all you need is to be with one another, and if she is insisting on marriage, she might have other motives.

So there is this guy that I like. I thought he was feeling me because he used to look at me all the time and just get in my conversations all the time. We would look at each other. He would talk about me with his friends in front of me. He even playfully told me he loved me. So I thought he was interested. I was making fun of this girl saying she should date him. and she was like no. and she was like you should because he said you was cute. and she started laughing with this other girl. and i think she only said it to get back at me though. well one day I told him he had pretty eyes and he say thankyou. I asked if anybody ever told him that, he said a lil bit. So I started calling him pretty eyes. He would just look at me. During a track meet he was looking at me and I was like why are you looking at me like that? And he was like because you are staring at me. (which i really wasnt :) And i was like I can look at you all I want. He just gave me A lil sexy look and went back to getting into his block. Also at Practice he was ignoring this girl and then I was like u need to cut your hair and I rubbed his hair and he was being so mean he rubbed me off him. And then the gurl said something and was like why you acting like this and he ignored her. And then i walked to the other side of him because he was laying down. And I said something like yeah he is being mean or something and then he was like yeah because you threw a baton at me. Then I was like I'm sorry and he was like to the girl that she threw A baton at me. And then I went up to him and was like I'm sorry you made me mad and he was like nope nope. And he was walking away and I followed and was on his shoulder and asked him why he wouldn't forgive me and he kept saying no. So I would point at him and keep laughing and then he was like it's not funny and then I whispered in his ear and was like if it's not funny why you smiling?so then he left and then the gurl was like do you like him and I was like no. And then she was like you sure and I was like yeah and and she was like I don't believe you. And I was like why you say that and she said because you messing with him and I said I mess with everybody and I just started messing with him and she was like yeah that's why I think you like him. And she was like I thinking something going on. She said it seems a lol supicious. Then the next day she told a girl on our team and the was like where is my man and I was like who is my man and she was like the guy. And I was like that isn't my man and she was like that's not what he said but i knew she was just saying it just to say it because i think she liked him too. but when tracked ended he didnt seem to talk to like me. when i try to talk to him he will just look at me. and not say anything back i mean its summer time and i never see him, but i have him on facebook but he never answers me. so im thinking he doesnt want to talk to me. one of my guy friends was do you really wanna know something and i was like yeah and he was like he has a gf. so i told my friend who is his really good cousin. she asked him and he was like no i dont have a girlfriend. so im like really confused. i really like him but he wont talk to me.

If you began to flirt with this boy, and had positive results, then congrats, you're on the right track. However, guys don't like to be constantly clung to. Try giving him space and wait for him to come to you. Guys love a chase. Also, since it's summer the guy might not be looking for a girlfriend. If his friend told you that he did, you might want to give him some space. Flirting with a guy is like a cat and mouse game. You already chased him, now let him come to you. If that doesn't work, he's probably not even worth it.

And you know you are ready and its the right thing to lose your virginity to him. You are completely prepared and use protection (both condom and birth control.) Do you think although you're ready, seventeen is still too young to have sex?

in my opinion, every person is different. you don't have a set age, or a certain time for dating (although let's be reasonable, a couple months might be too soon)

but i believe that if you truly care about someone, and you have no doubts whatsoever, then it is perfectly acceptable to lose your virginity to them. but if you have ANY thoughts opposing your decision, you probably aren't ready yet.

and i would talk to your mom too. she's the best resource.

here in about a week, i'm going camping. i dont really want to have to worry with my hair the whole time, and i dont want it to poof up when it get's humid.

i kinda dont want to take the time to straighten it. and it dosent curl well..natuarlly..it dosent. and creams and gels and mousse dont really work well for me AT ALL.

i really actually dont want to put it up..cause it's medium length and dosent look good up.

this is a tricky situation
first of all, talk to your friend
and make sure she isnt interested in the same guy
then, continue being good friends with him
if your friend does not like him back, he will soon get over her
then, you two will still be close friends
and you can try again

its either you wait it out, or forget about him
and since you like him i dont think you'd want to
also, maybe try hanging out with him in a group
but not including the friend he likes
or just hang out one on one
