I'm going to get braces pretty soon and I'm not so excited, I just feel really sad, and mad, miserable for some reason (I have other stuff going on with my life). The reason why, is because I think I have to get both TOP and bottom D:, but my top teeth are pretty much fine. I wouldn't mind the bottom though. + I have to have them for a year and a half! That's a long time to me! That's basically my whole school life+..... and they're ugly, no offense to anyone who has them, but I think they'll look ugly on me :(, you have to take GOOD care of them, more than you do for your regular teeth, considering you'll have to have a good flossing technique etc. I have to miss some school for my appointment, it'll take a long time maybe 2 hours+, it'll hurt (maybe) :|, and I can't eat certain foods! My mom says no more candy :( but I'm not gonna listen to her hehe >:] So I was wondering, can anyone tell me true facts about braces, like if I can't eat candy anymore, or if it hurts, etc, and if you could tell me how I can get over this or tell me stories so I can feel better about my situation. :| (link)
|
You're not young. The average age of getting braces is around 10. You're actually kind of late. Look, you need to stop complaining, because a lot of people have it worse than you. Trust me. I have to have top and bottom braces for 3 years, with a palette expander, and rubber bands. Yours is nothing. I know somebody who's even had her braces for 6 years, so appreciate the fact that you have braces for the normal amount of time.
When you just get it, your teeth are sore, but they don't hurt unless you bite into something, or knock your teeth together. I've found that the only food I can chew after getting my braces tightened are Spaghetti O's, mashed potatoes, and really, really soft macaroni and cheese, or whatever sauce. Try those foods. And well cooked oatmeal should be fine too.
When they tell you that you can't chew gum, or eat candy, it's all bull. I eat whatever I want with my braces, and they're perfectly fine. Also, they give you a kit of tools, but you don't even have to use any of that. Just brush your teeth, and if a bracket or wire is irritating your inner-mouth, use the wax. The rest of the stuff's totally unnecessary. You get used to having braces after the first two weeks, really.
Just appreciate it that you have them for a relatively short time, and after you get them taken off, you'll have really straight teeth, and you'll be happy you got braces.

hi, can someone tell me how the american schooling system works? here in England, theres are a couple different variations, but the city i live in, and surrounding areas, the system goes like this:
5 years old-start year 1 of primary school
11 years old-year 6. last year of primary school
12 years old-start year 7 of secondary school
16 years old- year 11. last year of secondary school.
after that you can go in to full, or part time work while going to college, which is optional, and free. college is usually for about 2+ years and you earn A levels here, aswell as other like a2, As etc.
then you can choose to go to university, for 2-5+ years. you pay for this, and do one subject. if you stay for 5+ years, i thing you get a PHD and become a doctor.
i think some parts of london have high schools and that, but was just wandering what the American schooling system is. thanks.

It varies all over the country, but for my district it's like this.
3-nursery school(which is optional)
4-preschool
4/5-10/11-primary school
11/12-13/14-secondary school
14/15-17/18-highschool
and then after, college is optional.
For public colleges, tuition is free for people within that state, but it costs money for people outside of that state. For private college, it charges tuition. But there's dorming fees for every college.

I'm thinking about colleges and Im trying to narrow it down from like a million. Im a junior in highschool and I want a college that balances fun with studies and I want to become a doctor but i dont want to do pre-med, probably something with social sciences. I want a challenge but also good parties on the weekends and stuff. My current GPA (before entering junior year) is 3.9. So if you or anyone you know goes to one of these schools could you give me some personal info and feedback about it? Also, feel free to suggest any more based on my likes. thanks!
Brandeis Univeristy
Bucknell University
Carnegie Mellon University
Clark University
Colgate University
Columbia University
Dartmouth University
Lehigh University
Miami University (of Ohio)
Northeastern University
University of California (at Santa Barbara)
University of the Pacific
University of Pennsylvania
University of Wisconsin (at Madison)
Vanderbilt University
Virginia Tech
Washington University (in St. Louis)
Thanks Again!

Yeah, with a 3.9 GPA there's not a very good chance of you getting into dartmouth, upenn, AND columbia. Columbia actually has the lowest acceptance rate out of all of those, and doesn't have that many department for medical things. Only for physicists and surgeons, so if you don't want to be either, don't go to columbia.

So today my mom threw out all of my makeup and brushes (even the expensive stuff and the brand new stuff) because she says it could have mono germs on it from when I had mono last month (i know.. wtf?!).
It was about $90 worth of makeup that was mostly given to me as gifts. So now that I need a whole new makeup supply, I kind of need suggestions because I have never really gone shopping for makeup before. I would like a mid-range product, not quite MAC, but not the $4 foundations either...
I am fair, with dark brown almond shaped eyes and medium-a little dark brown hair.
I would like to get--
-Mascara (just to lengthen and curl)
-Eyeliner pencil
-Loose powder, or liquid foundation
-Eyeshadow
-Blush (powder)
-Concealer
and any other products you swear by.
If you have any suggestions of your favorite products, I would love you forever!
Thanks!

Okay, I'm sorry I don't have any money spending advice right now, but I'm commenting because I have a warning.
DO NOT buy make up from dollar stores, and do not buy NYC brand make up. There have been recent news reports about how NYC products contain lead which can poison you.
[I only made this comment for your own good. I didn't mean to not help you with what TO buy, but I'm trying to help you with what NOT to buy because of health reasons.]

okay, so july is almost over.
then, its August.
school starts a few days before labor day weekend.
i pretty much blew it ALL summer by eating junk food.
i feel like crap about it because now i can't even loose enough weight in that amount of time.
what i was thinking, was the slmifast diet to go on until i loose the weight i want. THEN go back to eating low-cal and working out.
i'm 5'4, 143lbs. i want to weigh 130. and be able to fit into a size 7. i can barely fit into size 9 now. (link)
|
Do NOT do slimfast. My dad tried that and gained a lot of weight instead of losing weight.
Try a healthy diet with low-cal or low-carb plus exercising. Some premade things work, but slimfast does not. A lot of people say the special K diet works though, and the food is pretty decent.
|
yesterday and today I have felt starving 24/7 no matter what. Like i'll eat a meal, then feel really painfully starving 2 hours later. (or less)
But before 2 days ago I rarely ever felt hungry!
What's wrong with me?
this is driving me insane b/c i'm on a diet and this is making me gain weight.
im a vegeterian if that helps. (link)
|
It could be many things, but one of the more serious things is worms. Worms live in your stomach and feed off of what you eat. Over time they take away all your nutrition and can kill you. Wait several more days, and if this still happens and you're worried, ask a doctor what could be wrong with you.

there are sayings in which you can say "he wouldn't know.....if it..."
like for example: "he wouldn't know real music if it hit him upside the head"
does anyone know any other ways of saying those type sentances? (link)
|
I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but another is:
You wouldn't know ___ if it came up and bit you on the ass.
|
ohkay so im getting a base guitar soon
and i have NO idead whatsoever how to play,
like everything confuses me, like how the hell are you supposed to understand the music notes?
please helpp!!!!!!!! (link)
|
I wouldn't attempt trying to learn guitar on your own, without even knowing how to read ntoes. I'm learning how to play acoustic guitar on my own, but that's fine because I have prior knowledge about reading music. Use google to find free online programs, or get a bass teacher.

is it a myth that shaving makes the hair grow back more and coarser? (link)
|
It actually is a myth. The truth is that hair doesn't get thicker, it's just the very top part, the thinnest part, is shaved off, so there's no more taper to your hair to make it look thinner. With (long-time) exposure to the sun and other things, your hair will taper again, but by that time it'd be really long again. They also don't grow back more, but tapers are shaved off, so you're able to SEE more of the hairs growing in.

I'm on the atkins "diet" and i was wondering what sweets/desserts i can eat that are low carb. My other question was how can i resist the temptation to eat bad stuff like cake, doughnuts, cookies, etc. Because my family and friends eat this stuff sometimes and it's SOOOOO hard for me not to dig in with them...usually i'll give in, eat some, and then feel very guilty later. So i really need to know how to just...not eat them and how not have such an urge to want to eat this stuff in the first place! (link)
|
Honestly, I'm not trying to turn down other people's answers, but don't eat any of those manufactured goods the other people were telling you about. My dad lost nearly 100 pounds on the Atkins diet, and I know what to watch out for. Also, you know you're not supposed to eat tomatoes right? Also, don't eat carrots, potatoes, peas, or beans. They're very starchy.
The best sweet snack for Atkins is sugar-free jell-o. It's extremely low in carbs and calories, and there's no sugar at all. There's a couple flavors in the premade snack-pack kind, or you can buy the instant powdered kind in a lot of different flavors.
If you do extremely well with your diet, you could let yourself eat a bit of something not-too-healthy on...say, Sunday. And if you must, and serioiusly can't fight the temptation to eat something sweet or starchy, it's best to eat it in the morning, so some of it will be burned off.
Also, to help you along with your diet, the earlier you eat dinner, the better. Sometimes I'd lose a pound or two by eating normally, but nearly 12 hours before I went to sleep (although I suggest you do not sleep as late as I do, and don't jump so much time when you first start out).
Hope I helped! Good luck with your diet. It'll pay off, don't worry.

I want to shave down there but im afraid Ill mess it up. I have never shaved down there before but i do shave my legs. Any tips on shaving? Also if there was an alternative (other than waxing) I wouldn't mind finding out. Thank You (link)
|
When you shave, always shave in the direction that your hair grows. This will help prevent ingrown hairs. Always make sure you use a sharp blade. Also, if you wanted to "trim the hedges" a bit first, it wouldn't dull down your razor as much.
Good...luck? Haha.
Edit: Trimming the hedges means to cut most of it off before shaving.

i live in florida and ive never been to new york city.
we're going on vacation in a couple days and me and my mom are going to broadway one night, just me and her, and i was wondering, what are you supposed to wear?
my mom told me to wear something dressy. but i dont want to be over dressed.
but then again, i dont want to wear a jean skirt and be under dressed.
so i really don't know what to do. i dont want to look like an idiot tourist.
please help. (:
(link)
|
I live in New York and go to broadway shows all the time. If it's an afternoon show, just wear something casual. It doesn't matter. If it's an evening show, I'd wear maybe a dark skirt with a nice blouse, or a plain dark dress. Nothing sparkly or showy at all.
Hope you have fun!

ok weird i know but im obsessed with everything thaty has to do with chinese so maybe someone here knows how to speak chinese and i want to learn the language. I know it is hard but could someone help teach it to me. um but here is the catch for FREE (link)
|
Okay, um. DefyingOctober is a bit retarded. He/she was counting in Japanese. The Chinese language is one of the hardest languages to learn, especially because there are way over 8000 characters to learn, and then when you put some together, they make entirely different words. Alos, there are accents that make the same character sound the SLIGHTEST BIT different, but there IS a difference. It's really confusing. A lot of native Chinese people don't even know it all, surprisingly. If you want to learn a good deal of Chinese, I'd go to a real language teacher. But I'll teach you 1-10. Remember, this isn't the way it's supposed to be spelled, but a rough version of what it would sound like.
The emphasizing is in capitals.
1-Ee
2-UHr
3-sAHN
4-sI (pronounce the 'i' like you would for the word 'it')
5-Oo
6-lyOh
7-chEe
8-bAh
9-jOE
10-sIi (like 'it')
4 and 10 are examples of how similar words in chinese can sound. If you have any specific words you want to know, message me.

Okay, so i need to get my physical at the doctor. And i think i need to get a blood test. Don't they hurt? And i think i need it on my wrist, right next to the veins, and that makes me feel REALLY lightheaded. And i need a GARDASIL shot also..and do you know if that hurts? I just got like 5 vaccines a couple weeks ago and they didn't hurt..but a blood test will it hurt? I HATE PAIN. Please be honest. Does a blood test hurt if it's near the wrist veins, and if it's not does it still hurt? And does the GARDASIL Vaccine hurt?? And also, what does a doctor do during a physical? Do blood tests hurt as much as a vaccine? Please answer ALL. (link)
|
I get a bloodtest every single year as a part of my physical, and a shot every 3 years, or 6 years, or so. Trust me,. Out of all the shots and vaccines and things you get, bloodtests hurt the least.
|
Will a pediatrician usually preform a full exam?
during a yearly physical will a pediatrican usually preform a pelvic and or breast exam on a teen?
(link)
|
It doesn't matter if it's a male or female doctor. He will do those checks, since they are necessary.
|
im tryibf to lose weight please tell me what vegetables are the best to eat (link)
|
Potatoes and peas are very starchy.
Tomatoes and carrots are very sugary.
Just don't eat those and you'll be fine.
And I don't care if everyone says carrots and peas are good for you. They're starchy and sugary, but it depends on your diet.
|
okay so i get all the signs of pms but arent they the same signs as pregnancy?
like i eat peanut butter and i get moody
but i have a weird discharge and its not blood or like anything but its like a brownish color.. then sometimes it looks like theres a little blood in it.. and me and my boyfriend were sexual last weekend but we didnt have sex.. but he fingered me... is it possible that he may have had cum on his hands and now im pregnant?
or does it mean my periods coming because its been going on for like 5 days and i feel like it happened after me and my boyfriend did stuff.. and im scared. (link)
|
If the discharge is a gooey substance that isn't blood, and it's brown, I would go see your doctor. You might be infected.
You can't be pregnant if he just had cum on his hands, because sperm dies when it gets out in the open air.

Well, I'm definitely more of a girly girl than a tom boy. & everyone always compliments me on my clothes & such. Because I care a lot about my clothes/not wearing the same thing too often/matching. But I pretty much never wear makeup & keep my hair in a ponytail most of the time. Whenever people talk about makeup & such I'm just like yeah, I never wear makeup, & people say like well you look fine without it, etc. But I feel like it's kind of something every girl should do? I'm usually just too lazy in the morning. But I don't want to look like crap. But I also don't want to become one of those girls who looks like crap when they're not wearing makeup.
I just don't know if it's something all girls should do, & if I should try to wear it more & care about my hair & stuff. (link)
|
We're pretty much the same, except I don't care THAT much about clothes. Honestly, if you don't need make up, don't start using it. It screws with your skin in the long run. In the future, you're skin can become tinged and saggy. Also, don't mess with your hair and appearance just to be like everybody else. Screw the crowd. Do what you feel like.
