low carb sweets and temptations

Question Posted Saturday June 16 2007, 4:05 am

I'm on the atkins "diet" and i was wondering what sweets/desserts i can eat that are low carb. My other question was how can i resist the temptation to eat bad stuff like cake, doughnuts, cookies, etc. Because my family and friends eat this stuff sometimes and it's SOOOOO hard for me not to dig in with them...usually i'll give in, eat some, and then feel very guilty later. So i really need to know how to just...not eat them and how not have such an urge to want to eat this stuff in the first place!

Okay, you're not gonna wanna hear this, but I'm gonna tell you anyway.
Atkins and South Beach are BAD. A healthy diet includes everything in moderation and controlled amounts.
I did South beach for a month, and I lost about ten pounds. In the first two weeks, my emotions were messed up, I felt horrible, I was really low on energy, and I wound up with horrible insomnia, and dreams that I had forgotten about my diet and wound up eating carbs. Lol
Really, the only carbs you need to watch out for are complex carbs. Fruits and things are GOOD for you. Your body needs fructose - that's healthy sugar, and your body will burn those carbs off.
Atkins and South Beach are lazy diets. You can't work out while you're on them. Or at least, you can't do cardio. I tried, and almost passed out twice. Like, my vision blacked and everything.

You would be MUCH better off eating a diet of high lean protein (low/nonfat dairy), low on the complex carbs (like bread and starches). Eat lots of fruits and veggies, sleep a lot, and find a workout or two that feels good to you.
Deprivation is not a good way to lose weight. Your body will forget how to digest those things correctly and if you ever add them back in you'll just gain the weight back. The only reason I didn't gain the weight back was because I gained most of it from a pill I was on, and I never stopped working out. I forced myself to do it even while I was on South Beach, but I never felt good.
Working out and eating healthy is supposed to make you feel good.
Please reconsider your diet. It's a fast way to lose weight, but it's not permanent.
Adjust your diet to include all the food groups (yes, including sugar - you can get that from fruit), and add a workout regimen.
Low carb stuff, fyi, would have to be sugar free things...and those really aren't healthy either.
I hope you take my advice.
Good luck
-Siren =)

Honestly, I'm not trying to turn down other people's answers, but don't eat any of those manufactured goods the other people were telling you about. My dad lost nearly 100 pounds on the Atkins diet, and I know what to watch out for. Also, you know you're not supposed to eat tomatoes right? Also, don't eat carrots, potatoes, peas, or beans. They're very starchy.

The best sweet snack for Atkins is sugar-free jell-o. It's extremely low in carbs and calories, and there's no sugar at all. There's a couple flavors in the premade snack-pack kind, or you can buy the instant powdered kind in a lot of different flavors.

If you do extremely well with your diet, you could let yourself eat a bit of something not-too-healthy on...say, Sunday. And if you must, and serioiusly can't fight the temptation to eat something sweet or starchy, it's best to eat it in the morning, so some of it will be burned off.

Also, to help you along with your diet, the earlier you eat dinner, the better. Sometimes I'd lose a pound or two by eating normally, but nearly 12 hours before I went to sleep (although I suggest you do not sleep as late as I do, and don't jump so much time when you first start out).

Hope I helped! Good luck with your diet. It'll pay off, don't worry.

Did you know there's sugar-free candy out there? My favourite is sugar-free chocolate covered almonds. They're expensive, but tasty!

I also like to make popsicles out of Crystal Light, or Kool-Aid made with Splenda instead of sugar.

Here's a great dessert idea, too...

1 container ricotta cheese
Splenda
Cinnamon
Lemon juice

Mix the cheese with Splenda until it's sweet enough for you, then add a couple teaspoons of lemon juice. Mix it up really well, then top it with cinnamon. It's no carb, and it's really tasty and sweet.

Basically, sweets that are kinda healthy are low carbed like those tiny ice cream sandwiches, chocolate bars are good, and I think freezes. The easiest way is if you're in the temptation, take REALLY small amounts. Like takes a slice of cake that's half the amount of everyone else.

To resist food:

You could try chewing sugarless gum instead.

One thing i do that works for me is punish myself in a healthy way. Like if I told myself I'm not going to eat ice cream today and I did, when I go home I'd eat healthy food i hate like carrots, tomatoes, etc and tell myself "See? I have to eat this nasty shit because of you!"

..Or you could punish yourself by brushing your teeth afterwards 3 times.

I haven't tried this yet (and I don't really want to) but look up really gross looking teeth or imagine someone you know that has gross looking teeth when you eat it. You could think ‘ew..I don't want my teeth like that!” or it'll simply make you loose your appetite.

Um..careful on that one. I wouldn't want you to loose your appetite completely and not eat anything at all.

You could exercise instead or clean the house, get your mind out of it. Listen to some music to distract you.

=] This should do it!
Hoped I helped! Good Luck!

Im not sure about the low-carb treats, but I to resist food..

1. before you eat just think about how badly you don't need it.

2. think about how pissed you will be at yourself after you eat it.. then think about how proud you will be when you DONT eat it. which one is better?

3. walk away.. litteraly get away as much as you can before you want it.

4. be picky- look around for something you might want to eat more. when I do this i take so much time that in the end i loose intrest all together.

5. go exercise instead. If im having trouble resisting I say, "how about no i don't need that" and then I go do crunches or something.

These all work for me and I hope they can work for you.=]

Quaker has really good low carb snacks. There are these granola chocolate balls that are SO good. There are alot to choose from. My advice is to stay away from the kitchen / whereever they keep the snacks until you have to go in there for meals. You can also post a picture / number of what you want your weight to be on the fridge or door of the closet where the snacks are kept. This will definitly keep you away. Having another alternitve that good & healthy will remove your urge to eat unhealthy snacks after a while. Good luck on your diet! :)
