Hi, I'm a young 50 year old father of three (two sons one 5 and one 21, and a daughter of 31) from Romford, England. I have a lot of experience of life from both the good and bad sides, the good side when I was singing in bands almost every night and my life was one long party, and the bad side having to admit I'm an alcoholic and doing a hard rehab/detox programme (sober for 10 years now) then having a heart attack and a broken marriage to deal with. I am now in a good place in my own mind and want to help others as much as I am able to.

Okay, so obviously by this title you know I'm a girl.
Well, I think I'm starting to have my first crush on another girl and I feel so weird because... well, she's a girl. (If that makes any sense).
What I mean by that is that I feel uncomfortable thinking I like a girl.
Is that so wrong?
Let me explain my feelings about her.
When I'm around her, I feel totally comfortable (sometimes I'll start to worry about how I look, because she's so gorgeous, but... that may exactly be it; I worry about my appearence because she's beautiful and maybe I'm just jealous) When I'm around her, I'm incredibly happy. When I haven't seen her in days I get sad and I miss her when I think about her.
This could just be a big mis-interpretation. Maybe I just admire her and love her as a friend and nothing more.
There are times when I think I don't like her, but then later I'll start thinking "WTF? Who are you kidding? You DO like her" and so on, until the point where I start denying it again, and... I'm just really, really confused... and I don't like any of this bi-thing (yes, I AM into guys, so yeah) at all...
What do I do? Any advice given will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Don't worry this is perfectly normal. Most people go through a stage where they are attracted to people of the same sex, and it can range from nothing more than a slight crush to actually having sex with the other person. For most people it's just a passing stage that happens as we develop sexually and our hormones are changing our bodies and messing with our emotions, but for some people it developes into their natural sexual preference, there is nothing wrong in this and if it happens it happens. Whatever you do be careful how you handle this situstion, if you back off from her in order to try to loose these feelings then you could loose her as a friend and that could be a big mistake because you could become really close friends for life, but also if you swamp her with attention and she doesn't feel the way you do then again you could loose her as a friend, just play it cool and be friends with her as you are now, your future relationship whatever it may be will develop naturally.
Try not to worry so much and I hope everything works out for you.

Hey okey i really REALLY need to know what the "world cup draw" is. Is it soccer? And who's going to play against who in the next game? And do you think germany is going to win?
Thank you, ive searched all over the net. So thank you for your help with this,. (link)
|
Yes, the World Cup is 'soccer', although here in the UK we call it football.
What they do is draw teams out and put them into groups of four, these teams play aginst each other and get points for winning or drawing the games. Once all four teams in each group have played each other, the two teams with the most points in each group go forward to the next round.
You should be able to find out more information on the FIFA web site (they are the organisation behind the world cup), this is the link to get straight to the world cup information:-
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/
Hope this helps a bit, and I hope that people in the US will be following the fortunes of the USA team in the world cup, they did pretty well last time.

I think that the final will probably be between France and Brazil, but I'm not sure who will win.

I have a huge problem.....I'm a failure at everything in life . All my previous friends have told me so and my whole family is CONSTANTLY telling me that I'm a failure. Even people who don't know me personally, tell me that I'm a failure when they hear about me. So , what they're saying (that I'm a failure) is true, since so many people have told me the same thing. Before, hearing that statement would motivate me to work really hard. And it would work because I would achieve my goals, temporarily. Now, whenever anyone tells me I'm a failure, it doesn't motivate me anymore. Instead, I get really sad and stay in my room alone and cry. I even skip going to college because I'm so sad and don't want to be annoyed by anymore people telling me the same thing. I already have depression and am taking medication for it, so hearing this statement from people doesn't help. Now my question is: HOW DO I GET OVER THIS? HOW DO I MOITIVATE MYSELF AND STAY MOTIVATED? HOW DO I PROVE TO EVERYONE THAT I'M NOT A FAILUTRE? Sorry for the long letter. Please, no smart alecs. (link)
|
I know this is going to be difficult but you just have to ignore what other people say about you being a failure, just try asking yourself (and maybe them as well) just what have they all achieved that makes them so high and mighty as to judge if you are a failure or not? Not everyone is as good at the same things, maybe you just haven't found your skill yet. All you can do is keep telling yourself that you're not a failure (am I'm sure that you're not, if you really think about it), the fact that you keep going despite being told by everone that you are proves to me that it's not true. It is possible that because everyone saw that this motivated you to work harder at first they don't know that it doesn't anymore, maybe you should talk to your friends and family about it.
Just keep trying your hardest, nobody can ever ask more of you than that. Take it easy and try not to let it drag you down.

What are your opinions on this statement?:
"if Canadian farmers were unable to grow enough food to feed Canadians, we could become dependent on other countries for our food supplies."
(link)
|
This is simply a statement that says that if Canada (or any other country for that matter) was nat able to produce enough food for the needs of it's population it could become dependant on importing food from other countries to cover whatever shortfall there would be, for example if you had a population of 100 people and they each needed a sack of grain a day but you could only produce 80 sacks of grain a day then you would have to import the other 20 and wouldn't be able to feed everyone without those imports.
Don't know if this helps but I hope so,

This question is for people in the older age groups of this site, or at least, the more experienced people.
What makes someone good in bed, specifically, a woman? I know a lot of it is personal preference, but I'm sure there are at least a few answers to this question other than "personal preference." Anyway, thanks. (link)
|
You're right that it does come down to personal preference a lot, you need to take the time to find out exactly what turns on the man you're with. Don't rush into things, you will find that most men actually do like foreplay (even if a lot of them don't spend a lot of time on it themselves they like you to), oral sex, and stimulating them by kissing and fondling. Most mens nipples are just as sensative as womens so they can be licked and sucked.
I think the main thing is to remember that not all men are just into quick hard fast sex and then falling asleep (although we are almost all always made to look that way), most men like to take time over things and also allow the man to just do things to you sometimes, that can sometimes turn men on just as much.
It's difficult to get it all right all of the time (ask any man), all you can do is take your time and try to learn by your mistakes (that's what the rest of us do).
Hope this helps

My boyfriend and I are fairly young, but we've been together for a long time. We have been talking about marriage, and both of our families support us and think it's a good idea.
Here is the problem. We're both from different countries. I don't want to have to choose one country over the other, or in other words, one family over the other. Also, I have never really pictured myself having a big wedding. I am pretty shy, and I know making my wedding a huge show would end up being very stressful for me. I would rather have it be a private ceremony between two people that love each other. Also, if we eloped, it would be more affordable.
So does it sound like a good idea? If you're wondering, he is indifferent about how we would get married. (link)
|
I know that it is said that your wedding is your day but to a certain extent it is also a day for the families to celebrate your joining together as well and I think it would be sad not to involve them, and it can sometimes cause nasty rifts between you and you families if they feel that they are being excluded from it. What you could do is have a small private wedding and then have a blessing which is a larger more formal event (but it still doesn't need to be huge) at which more of the two families can be involved. A lot of it depends on what money you and your families have available.
I hope everything works out for you both,
Kizlode.

Is there a French equivalent for the term 'Luddite' (=opponent of technological progress, to the extent of, for example, destroying machinery or GM crops etc)? (link)
|
As far as I know the term Luddite is the same in French as it is in English. You could try running it through some translation software to make sure but I'm fairly certain. I don't know of any other term for Luddite, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Okay, I need your opinion. I'm writing a song and I need a title first according to my vocalist. Please pick your fave out of the choices below:
a) Hollywood Heartbreak
b) Generation Change (sounds 70's right?)
c) Beautiful Heartbreak
d) Broken change/ promise
(On d, change or promise? if you chose d.)
Any other suggestions on titles? Or anything else about songwriting in general? I'll rate high. (link)
|
I like Hollywood Heartbreak, it's a good title. As a songwriter and vocalist myself I would say that you don't need to have a title before you write a song and sometimes the song you write gives you the title, one of the lines stands out as you read it through and that becomes the title, and it doesn't need to be the chorus, or sometimes you write a song and give it a title that doesn't have anything to do with the lyrics but sums up either the feel or the meaning of the song.
Hope you do well with the song, good luck,

Does anybody know any good programs that I could buy for blocking pop-ups? Does anyone have any that have actually worked and aren't too complicated to use? Thanks. (link)

You can get good free pop-up stoppers on line (and you can also buy the more advance version of the same ones), try using either of these sites:-

They also have a lot of other types of software that works really well.

Help me figure this out! TRAIN ACCIDENT! There are 87 passangers and none have major ingeries but 2 are dead on the police report. How is this (link)
|
The dead ones could be crew and not passengers, maybe driver and guard.
Could they have been dead before they even got on the train, maybe they were dead bodies being transported in coffins for burial in a different part of the country.

Last year my Pre-Cal teacher told me that if I went on to take Calculus AP that I would flunk out by first report card. I knew that I wouldn't and the only reason I decided to take the class was because she said that about me even though I kept an A+ average in her class. Well, it's coming around to the end of the semester and I now have an A in Calculus AP. I was wondering; if this happened to you, would you tell your old teacher about your grade? (link)
|
I would definately tell her, but bare in mind that if she knows you well then she may have said that you would fail knowing that by saying that it would make you determind to suceed. Sometimes reverse psycology works really well.

Alright, I was assigned to write two articles for the school newspaper. The first has to be something about Christmas...but I can't think of anythin that isn't cynical/witty/overly sarcastic. Any ideas?
The second is about schools and why they are essential. Ideas, please?
Thank you - will rate 5 for every idea!! (link)
|
For the article about Christmas you could try focusing on one specific area and doing a short history of it and how it's changed over the years (for example decorations or trees).
For the article about schools you could do something about areas of the third world where they haven't had schools but are now getting them and show what difference it's making to the people there.
Good luck and I hope I've helped

how do you treat a 15/16 year old daughter
(link)
|
That's a bit of a vague and all engulfing question, but I'll do my best.
It depends on the daughter in question as maturity is not dependant on age but on personality and upbringing, normally at that age she isnt really an adult and yet she is also not still a child, the problem comes with knowing when and how to treat them more adultly.
I have always gone with the idea that you should treat any child as maturely as they behave, and they should know that.
I know this answer is a bit vague and general but if you have any specific problems or areas that you wany advice on please post another question or e-mail me and I'll be more than happy to help you out as much as I can.
I hope that I've helped, even if only a little,

Hi, I would REALLY apprecaite some advice :) OK, my partner (male 32) is driving me (female 26) up the wall! We have a 6 month old baby. My parner works, I am at home alone with the baby all day. He has this really annoying habit where he get's home, sits on his lap top and then only goes to bed at about 5am! His alarm goes off at least 6 times before he gets up for work (obviously making him late!) and then he has to stay at work late to make up the time. By the the time he gets home from work, I am so wound up that we argue! I have tried to comprimise by designating "laptop evenings" but when we do this, it lasts for a few days and then we are back at square one. The worst of it is, that he he has difficulty with "demands". He sees everything as a demand and then feels that he must rebel! This makes him worse. Please can you give me some practical advice to get him to sleep earleir and to wake up on time for work. We are due to get married in Jan and I feel that this is a real reason for me to call it all off :( Thanks :) (link)
|
I think the first and most important thing you need to do is talk to each other, you need to explain how you feel to him. I would say that he needs to grow up a bit, I understand his need to 'rebel' but he has to realise that he now has a responsability to you and your baby and that means that he needs to consider you both in what he does, especially as if he keeps being late for work he could end up loosing his job. I wonder if he feels he's not ready for family life, if he spends so much time on his lap top I would think that means he doesn't spend much time with you or the baby and maybe this is because he's scared of fully comitting himself (a problem found quite often in men...lol). I think you need to lay things on the line to him and get him to see how you feel and that it isn't a demand your making but a responsibility that he needs to face up to.
Hope this has helped,

Can anyone tell me a personal experience they've had with dealing with tolerance? Why is it important to be tolerant of others? The reason I'm asking this question is because I have to write an essay and I would like your input on this so I can include it in my examples. All 5's to anyone who give serious, thoughtful answers. (link)
|
Tolerance is a large area to look at with many different levels.
Tolerance of others isn't necessarily just about personal dealings on a one to one basis it can be about a whole race, religion or section of society. Intolerence of others beliefs and lifestyles have been the basis of many wars and conflicts throughout history.
Intolerence is often based on ignorence and prejudice, and can be a hugely destructive force. On a more personal and one to one level, it can be the cause of racist, homophobic and other forms of anti-social behaviour.
Tolerance can also be about just simply putting up with your annoying neighbours, boss, best friends new girlfriend, or even family, mainly because you don't want to cause major problems for yourself and others by getting into any kind of conflict with them.
I know this is a long answer, but I hope it has helped,

The song is called Take Me Away and it's be Fefe Dobson, but I think you might have got some of the lyrics wrong acording to one of the lyric sites I use, it goes:-
Take me away,
Take me far away from here
I will run with you
Don't be afraid
Navigate and I will steer
Into the sun, we will run
If you want a copy of the full lyrics you can get them from http://www.lyricsondemand.com/f/fefedobsonlyrics/takemeawaylyrics.html
